Second go out with a new piston/rebore on the 81 490 Maico. Bit of dialling in since Devon, most noticeably with work done to understand and tune the forks a little better to soften them off, which seemed to be much better, although more to do over the winter..
Workers Race - managed a surprisingly good start, then for some reason assumed I could hang with Chris Hacker in the rain, promptly resulting in dumping it in the first slippy corner 😂 Managed to restart eventually, coming home 13th of 14, a lap down. 6th fastest lap in the race with a 1:54:137
B Race 1 - probably the best of the day - not a great start off the line, but managed to gain quite a few places in the first few corners and quickly realised the evolution of the track now the rain was gone and having seen another 4 races since last out with grip coming nearly everywhere. Managed to hold the place fairly well and used the power of the 490 to pip another rider to 5th place (of 25) by just over a tenth of a second over the finish line. 5th fastest lap in race with a 1:46:240, showing the improvement from the wet workers race.
Race 2 - an even better start than the first race, top 4 in the first few corners, but couldn't quite hold onto it later in the race, ending up 7th of 23, with my best lap of 1:39:217 showing again the track improvement, but only good enough for 9th fastest in group.
Race 3 - ended up squeezed in the first couple of corners and seemed to just keep falling back - managed a couple of passes, including the final move of the day being a full power banzi charge over the line to again claim another place at the death, finishing 13th of the 24 finishers, with a best lap of 1:38:224 being only 13th fastest in group
Overall, first couple of races did the work and ended up 6th of 25 riders in B Group, highest ever finish to date!
