  • The Department of the Interior has published a proposal to guide the balanced management of America’s public lands for the benefit of current and future generations. The agency says the proposed Public Lands Rule provides tools for the BLM to improve the resilience of public lands. However, not everyone agrees. Livestock organizations like the NCBA and Public Lands Council serious concern that the proposed rule that would completely upend BLM's multiple-use mandate and jeopardizes the agency's ability to be a good partner to the ranchers who manage millions of acres across the West.

In our area designations of national monuments are being used to eliminate multiple use and move management to Washington. They don’t even consider their own managers, let alone the residents of the counties and states most affected by their decisions.

By multiple use the ranchers thought that meant free land for them. Screw everyone else.

Employees were not given the opportunity to comment (10-15 days) or take part in the process. You can expect wealthy organizations and their benefactors to close public lands to public access.
This has been in the works since 2006 or thereabouts, but it was created in a vacuum by political appointees and members of the public lands foundation (likely as contractors, but all managers and former appointees with a financial stake in project consulting).
Lastly, you all should be aware that this is also part of the rewilding the west project that proposes 30% of public lands revert to wilderness status IMO, just look who lobied and you'll find the answer.
