    Overgrazing? When cattle outnumber horses 200 to 1? I don't see how the HORSES are responsible for overgrazing when they're so badly outnumbered by cows!

      They out number them a lot more than 200 to one considering the wild horse numbers are in the thousands and the cattle numbers are in the millions

    So I am not a fan of the round ups in any way shape or form, but to clear a couple of things up that I keep seeing on these sites, and NO, it doesn't make it ok, but I still need to clear a couple of things up. When they talk about grazing issues, it isn't that the horses overgraze and cattle don't. The problem is that the horses graze to the absolute point of no return so to speak. The plants don't grow back. Cattle don't graze so closely to the ground so the plants will recover.

      Boy do you have that wrong.....To a young seedling the size and grazing habits of the livestock can mean total destruction on a pasture. Every pasture will experience the loss of plant material because the plants can't survive the traffic of livestock. The trampling of cattle damages pastures of all soil types, soil moisture levels and plant species. Forage yields are reduced the most when their allowed to graze plants on wet soil. Horses don't tear the grass up by the roots either.

    continued (4) and lastly, there is no easy answer. The mountain lion is the only animal that is going to help keep the population down. But in most of these areas, you aren't going to have that many mountain lions hanging around. These lands can't handle the number of horses that would ultimately be living there. This is high desert, minimal moisture, minimal food sources. So the choices are to let them starve and die slowly in nature, or hopefully have people help provide for them.

    continued... cattle are moved or move from place to place where the horses are more "home bodies" more or less. Cattle are usually moved off the blm land annually. They aren't there year round. When you look back at the history of the number of horses the blm has removed over the years from any given location, the numbers they remove have been about the same, and every other year or so. Imagine the number of horses on the land if they didn't. I don't have the answer, but the natural....

      The wild horses have been completely removed from five states now and of course it was done in the most brutal and inhumane way possible, making more room for the millions and millions of cattle that occupy our public lands now. It's interesting how the number of wild horses and burros is in the thousands and the cattle numbers is in the millions but it's the wild horses that are overpopulated! The horses would have natural predators if the blm hadn't already had them killed off. Your really off on the number of Wild Horses removed. In 2018 11,472 wild horses were removed permanently from our public lands, which is 3 times more than in 2017 and more than they have removed in almost a decade.

    continued (3) starvation factor in the winter is probably more horrific than anything caused by the round ups. Right now it is estimated that there are 45,000 horses in the care of the BLM. So here is one of my questions: With all of the complaints about the horses in pens, how many organizations are helping to find them homes? Or providing hay/feed for the ones in "captivity"? It is easier to complain, bitch and moan about what is happening than it is to help out after the fact.

    You people should get on the BLM website and actually read through the prcedures and the adoption program.

  • @21cs16311
    @21cs16311 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    excually there is no overpopulation, there is jut more room needed for cattle who destroys the land even more, so that eventually all wild horses need to dissapear. so its no sollution. and the wild horses belong there they have been there for so long.

    Great job protecting the wild horses in arizona! They were so far away feom water and all their ribs and spines showed! Keep up the fantastic work! I am a horse person, and I say just let son veterinarians go out and ride HORSES (not fracking helicopters) to push horses away from the trap, the horses will push back and eventually go to the trap because they respond to pressure, once they are trapped, just GELD a few stallion/colt horses so there is less breeding happening, and over population will stop, costing a ton less. Geez, dumb governmental program. They will NEVER correctly do anything right or humanely.

    • @Trakehner20
      @Trakehner20 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Horses&violins23 Yup, I am not real familiar with this stuff, but there is more motive than that to keep them there. Far as I can tell, it also boils down to ranchers not wanting them depleting their grass and water so they take them off completely. I wish they would geld some and return them too.

    Can you show one breeder of domestic horses who runs their horses with helicoptors? what about all the thousands of wild horse the BLM contractor has run to the point of road founder, thus their hooves seperate from the bone and then you shoot them? Why the high speed of round-ups? Damage to horses is very high and many thousands die from this 'management' . It's not right to say this kind of 'management' is humane at all.

    Quit allowing ranchers rent BLM land for $1.50 an acre. There would plenty of room for wild animals if it wasn’t overgrazed by ranchers all summer. The public should at least get a fair market rent price for the renting the BLM.

      Wild Horses/Mustangs are not invasive. They Keep a huge part of Our Life Cycles going. They keep the land Fertile with their Manure. Their manure Ensures seeds get passed that will grow. Everything down to honey bees live prosperously when you leave them alone. Trees grow, the air stays clean. You guys do not get nor understand the circle of life. • @Turboy65

    I can almost quote them to you. But the fact remains that the BLM kills a number of horses in virtually every roundup and their practices are, to be charitable, rough at best. This is particularly stupid when passive trapping is known to work well, takes little effort, and results in virtually no deaths or injuries.

  • @ellimae1548
    @ellimae1548 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    well if those horses that are not adopted are really put into a place with grass to love their life’s out, please show me. most of kept in sad corrals with no shelter or grazing. Only some are in horse sanctuary s.

    Ever been out to see rangelands where wildlife are pushed away from water holes and forage? Ever seen when the horses themselves are dying from starvation and dehydration? I do not agree with any grazing on public lands. I'm a vegetarian and do not economically support the ranchers who benefit from such subsidies. However, wild horses are feral, and should be treated as such. It's too bad wild horse advocates aren't as angry about the actual animal abuse of abandonment as they are about the mgmt

    • @whisler744
      @whisler744 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am a whole lot angrier about the way these beautiful animals are treated!! The roundups are brutal and totally inhumane. Anything the blm does with our wild life is always done in the most brutal way with no regard whatsoever for their well being. Our government has no business being in the animal abuse business and then expecting the taxpayer to pay for it. BLM is a very corrupt organization that hides behind the title of Wildlife Protectors
