I'm surprised you didn't say anything about that accident that nearly (?) happened around 1:13 -- you could hear the tires squealing as the truck tried to come to a stop.
So very good to see this ... I have ancestors who were from Norway ... they arrived in South Dakota in the early 1870's .... they were sod-busters!!! They were farmers and eventually able to build a home, but, absolutely.... their first house was of sod!!!
My ex-husband's family came from Norway about the same time and settled in Minnesota. His grandfather, two brothers and a couple of cousins moved to Western Washington and homesteaded. His grandmother was a mail order bride from Norway in about 1910.
@@MaryB-ps8lg Small world.... my dad's mother, a descendant of those Norwegians, wound up in St. Paul, MN -- severe cold during the winters -- I guess they liked it because if was like their Norway home!! My sister lives in Western Washington -- I've done a lot of travelling there ... so much interesting and dynamic geology to see in Washington -- both the western region and the eastern region -- the Palouse!
Russ u missed the rifle above the doorway in the cabin, mr Brown must have been well to do judging by the size of the house and homestead, thanks for giving us a look
I loved hearing the barks of the prairie dogs warning each other of the intruders. Reminded me of the remains of the Ingalls home in Walnut Grove, MN. For those too young to remember, Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote the series "Little House on the Prairie". You always take us to great places Russ. Thanks.
My husband and I love your channel!! This one particularly interesting to me as my great grandparents settled in a soddy home in North Dakota. Come see us in the superior national forest Minnesota!
What surprises me is how similar the old homesteads (farmhouses) here in Australia are to those in the US. Many of the items seen in this homestead were also common in the Australian ones.
as your chief science officer, i would "hand feed" one. Then again, i'm used to groundhogs, which are like prarie dogs, but bigger and angrier. Thanks for taking us along!
That was an enjoyable hour eh Russ! Hope you enjoyed the history of both the minuteman and the old sod homestead! Just a good way to decompress! Stay safe and enjoy the Badlands and Wall drug!
The Prairie Dogs were cute. Loved the 'lil fella sticking his head up out of the hole for RVerTV. Enjoyed seeing the Homestead. It's interesting to see how different families lived. Really nice aerial view of the Prairies.
We did some awesome vlogging in South Dakota a few years ago. One of our favorite states for sure!! Badlands area is incredible!! I could vacation in that area every year or two for sure.
Nice super nice, History brings memories , Im sure I will meet many of the ancestors when the resurrection take place , Beautyfull places where good people lived and the promise sounded in their ears " I surely say onto you , You will be with me in paradise".in 2021 I say AMEN.
i hope the truck pulling the trailor (by the gas station) stoped before it hit the other truck or ditch , nice stop been there seen that bought the tee shirt . we do vacation in the blackhills every year and the badlands are allways a stop on the way home :)
1:10 Russ you just about got to film a wreck. The guy in the white truck had stopped to turn left into that gas station, the guy in the black truck didn’t notice until it was almost too late he had that 5th wheel trailer all locked up you can hear tires squealing. Looked like he was headed off the road to avoid rear-ending the white truck, looked like quite a drop off into that field. Just wondering if you saw it in your rear view mirror, you must have heard the tires squealing.
Hey Russ, good video on the Prairie Homestead. I wonder what the Prairie Dogs eat if there is a drought in progress. I noticed that there was a dirt floor in the homestead. I wonder how the floor isn't potted with Prearie Dog holes. Thanks for the videos.
Cute homestead. I bet todays generation couldn't survive this type of lifestyle with no electricity, TV. Internet, radio, smartphone, no running water they would go bonkers. People back then were hearty.
He would have taken his wheat and livestock to the railroad. The rail wasn't too far. It ran from Rapid city to Sioux falls, the west half now abandoned.
not to sure how a prairie dog tastes but ,I don't think a guy will starve out there and imagine all the Buffalos on the prairie in 18 hundreds most likely gone by 1900
Susan Boatman.... people back then we're no wimps! Today's generation are just interested in their cell phones. Missing out in life with there noses in their cell phone texting. So sad!

He took the berm, grass to miss the rear ending, it would've been bad at that speed!!
Idiots like that are why I quit riding motorcycles on the road, probably messing with cell phone or the fancy nav screen. Happens way too often.
Wow. What an example of a couple of troupers. Commute to work was a breeze. The Mrs...must have been one tough cookie.
Russ did you notice the near accident at 1:15??
My Mom used a Singer sewing machine like that one back in the 50's.
Your drone is worth it's weight in gold. It really adds perspective to the area. I'm surprised that the landscape is so flat. 😊👍👍
this channel is underrated he deserves more subscribers. the content is very relaxing and you can get a tips at the same time.

My man and I visited this homestead and I want to live there
I have been there once. Amazing little farm museum showing the home and tools typical of a farm of the day. Worth seeing.
Russ u missed the rifle above the doorway in the cabin, mr Brown must have been well to do judging by the size of the house and homestead, thanks for giving us a look

Truck pulling trailer went off the road and possibly crashed in the ditch! Wow any info on it Russ?
there was no wreck truck stopped and drove around and kept going
@@rvertv that's good news. It sure looked like it could have been nasty! Thanks for the input!

make sure you stop in the saloon in the 1880 town and have a cold one and have your picture taken
Just accross the BIG MO ! were saturated ! (Watertown) wet, wet, wet
Good grief. Hope that guy didn’t get rear ended!
Cute homestead. I bet todays generation couldn't survive this type of lifestyle with no electricity, TV. Internet, radio, smartphone, no running water they would go bonkers. People back then were hearty.

Bought my house and it's a 110 years old Of course I remodeled it and added on to it
What happen to the Browns ...family how long did they reside there
That's a prairie mansion!
👍👍😊
No comment on the near accident? That is not typical of your videos. Did you miss it?
Judging from the comments, You can't roll through SD and We not know about it. Before you release the video 😊
So Mr. Brown eaked out a living as a farmer? Who would he have sold his produce to? It doesn't seem like there were many people around.
He would have taken his wheat and livestock to the railroad. The rail wasn't too far. It ran from Rapid city to Sioux falls, the west half now abandoned.
There's nothing like walking in a field of rodentia to make you go squirrelly.
not to sure how a prairie dog tastes but ,I don't think a guy will starve out there and imagine all the Buffalos on the prairie in 18 hundreds most likely gone by 1900
So, you didn't stop at Wall Drug.....
stay tuned. More videos to come on South Dakota
almost an accident at 1:13
Not only that tub was probably used to make lye soap!
You didn't edit the truck and flatbed trailer had to take the barrow pit as you went past the gas station quit interesting
:)

My friends help kill them on some farm. Lands because they cause a lot problem for the life stock
