Dawn M. Bennett absolutely killed the delivery on this quest, like god damn.
Both on the Mother energy, and the emotion.
Something that can be inferred from this companion quest is that Yukong was shot down, and that they were both in the same starskiff. Yanming mentioned that Caiyi was an ace gunner, and in the diary entry before Yukong leads off that they were going to be partners. So these fighters that the Loufu uses in combat require a pilot and gunner, and the scene before where Yukong and Caiyi are catching up is most likely them doing preflight inspection before the battle they were shot down in. Yukong fully believes that she should have died that day they were shot down. That is just another reason for her to never fly again.

The Mung Bean drink is real a drink in Beijing that, so far I have not heard a single compliment on it, not even from the locals, yet it still exists, and the locals love to trick friends from other places into drinking it, even tho they themselves can't stand the taste neither.
And the ingame one added soda into it, which I can only imagine making the flavor 100 times worse.

boiled mungbean soup without any condiments (ie sugar or salt) is a good agent to dilute or getting rid of common food and alcohol poisoning, so that might be why the Mung Bean drink continue to exist despite people not liking it. It's something you buy and chuck down in a hurry when you are drunk or queasy from food poisoning. The bad taste even help you puke easier which also get rid of alcohol/poison in your system.

It's also worth mentioning that the Reignbow Arbiter (Lan) is responsible for killing Dan Shu's best friend (Yufei) when he ended the war by firing a divine arrow resulting in the destruction of a hospital where Yufei treated soldiers. Because of this, Dan Shu abandoned the Aeon of the Hunt and pursued The Abundance (Yaoshi) because it was what Lan hated the most. Interesting to see how many characters were affected by the War, everybody's best friends be dying.
This is by far the best companion quest! had me in tears when I found out why Yukong is that desperate to not allow Qingni to not fly.
I know Mina was saying something about Qingni's parents being bad parents, but seriously the Xianzho was in a war. With thousands and even millions dying every day they were getting pretty desparate and needed all the help they can get, so i mean they knew what they were getting into when they signed up. Its not like they were bad parents or anything maybe idk
I don't think caiyi is a bad parent, she knows that, in a war so brutal that in a single battle, less than 10% of 1 million pilots can survive, the best way to protect her child is to fight it, and won the war, if the place you live is destroyed, how can your kid live a good life and grow up?
You know, if u think about it, this could be foreshadowing for the future, why, well: Yukong is almost reaching 300 years, which is the life limit of a foxian, so considering why Kafka and Blade went to Luofu, my theory is that, in some future battle, Yukong will decide to fly one last time, her daughter will probably already be flying, and maybe this past scenario will repeat itself.....
I usually skip text or just skim through it. Idk why, but something about how the story put emphasis on the diaries made me feel like i needed to read all of them, and i dont regret it.
Also it might just be me but i feel like Yukong might be gay. She loved her friend so much and was jealous when she got a husband. She also was the mother of her friend's child. Idk sounds like some mild gayness going on here.
Her LC description is about this tragic moment and it says "her beloved’s tragic passing" the genre is not clear but I'm french and in french it's pretty clear
"Her beloved" is translated as "sa bien aimée"
And in french we conjugate accordingly to the genre, in this case "her beloved" would have been "son bien aimé" if it was a man while it is "sa bien aimée"
Idk if it's clear and if you can get the differences in spelling, but in french it is clearly stated that her beloved one was a woman, and in french this expression is only use for lovers and not friends

This is my favorite Companion quest to date! I thought Serval's was pretty good, but this one was on another tier. All the VAs did a great job, but Yukong's VA really hit it out of the park with her performance. Even though I've watched this multiple times, I still get super emotional towards the end. If this is the quality of Companion quests we will get in the future, we're all gonna be eating good!

Normally when there's a very long lore text in the game I skip it, but I'm so glad I didn't skip the texts for this quest.

1:08:00 Yea no. Borisin wanted to literally genocide foxians in luofu. That war wasnt like "uh oh we lost well time to pay paxes to the other guy" kind of war. Borisins are very very barbaric and they have particularly bad history with foxians. So her going back to the frontlines immediately was just a parent protecting her childs future. And if Lan didn't come in with the lux arrow Foxians and entire luofu would have been decimated. You havent understood how dire the situation was for them.

normally i am not a fan of Strict parents all that much but Yukong has just about every reason to be in this case
Yukong is the typical "battle-hardened asshole" archetype, significantly toned down + tailored to an actual parent as opposed to just a CO or something (the latter making it easier to just make said character an ass for no true reason)
This was definitely the best side quest in the game and I hope this kind of great writing continues at least with the companion quests
Mina acknowledging that Qingni changes color of the hair but not that the model literally changes is so funny to me for some reason
this story made Yukong my favorite character. well written and tragic for sure
Yukong and Bailu had 2 of the most depressing stories in the game so far, and it is making me worried over the future of the cast!

Who is the father?
When I did this story quest, I can already imagine playing Kanye West's Touch The Sky in the background. With that said, I absolutely loved the story quest and that cutscene is how the past and future light cone was made plus it made me emotional on their origin stories. I like how they used the icarus mentality where if you fly too close to the sun, your wings would melt and crashing down to the ground.

I think Yukong loved both Qingni's parents, the fact that she says that he had an "anoyingly handsome face", Caiyi confirming that Yukong was the one who cried the most after his death, Yukong words about her feelings, feelings that are about his death and not about Caiyi's mourning state that wasn't as bad as Yukong writes, make me belive that she was kinda a tsundere with him, she never understood her feelings for him, he married Caiyi the other person that she loved so she thought this was just jelausy, and when he died the regret hit her stronger than it should have been for Caiyi.
At the end this is just my way to see it, it is clear that Yukong Loved Caiyi, but I like to think this, in this scenario she is taking care of child of the 2 people that she loved the most in her life... (it is also a bit more tagic this way)

People can be very emotionally connected to other people's partners too though. My friend has a girlfriend and she's a great match for him and just fun in general to be around, she catches on to me and my friends humor and loves us talking about our dumb stories. I would also consider her beautiful, because she is, but that doesn't automatically mean I'm into her or have any attraction to her, it's just pointing out the oblivious. There just seems to be more of a clear connection to Caiyi rather then the husband

@@blazeman2419 Yukong clearly states that she has the bigger connection to Caiyi, talking about their childhood and previous adventures together. she also wanted to be partners with Caiyi, and was oblibously put off by Caiyi becoming partners with her husband. I'm not sure how showing the husband, "her good side" would have changed things. my friend's girlfriend has shown me her good side and there's no hint of a love triangle

I put at the end that Yukong feelengs about Caiyi are the most clear.

Caiyi knew that she was irresponsible. But when you think about it, what would she do? Stop being in the military, in the middle of a war? I think that would be considered desertion. And also, she prob saw that her efforts, especially with her talents could well effect the war in a meaningful way, keeping her child safe in the long run.
There are prob alot of conflicting emotions for parents who are in the military. And complex psychology.
Imo, i dont see her as a bad mother, just irresponsible. Irresponsible that she had a kid while in the middle of war while being a soldier. Risking the kid becomming an orphan.
Frankly, this situation is not what i would wish on anyone.
that's a bad take man, time of war are different from time of peace. They're going to war to prevent the annihilation of their home planet, not to search for fame and glory. Its like saying they're a bad parent for confronting the burglar that invaded their home while keeping their child hidden in safe place.
Plus she and her husband knows they're some of the best pilot they have, if they just step off of the frontline just like that they're being irresponsible towards their comrade, their homeland, all the lives that's been sacrificed in the fight because they don't want to ruin their own happiness.
