Sans buys 3 ketchups and 1 burger which cost $4.20
Papyrus buys 1 ketchup and 5 burgers which cost $7.40
How much does a burger cost?
this can be represented as the equations:
3x + y = 4.20 and 5y + x = 7.40
if we multiply the equations such that the y values negate eachother, we get this:
-15x - 5y = -21.00 and 5y + x = 7.40
now we know:
-14x = 13.2
therefore, x ≈ -1.06
with this knowledge, we can substitute x:
3(1.06) + y = 4.20 and 5y + 1.06 = 7.40
we can simplify to:
3.18 + y = 4.20
now we can subtract to isolate y:
y = 1.02 and 5y = 6.34
