- In today's modded Undertale video, I complete the Genocide route at LV1, with 20HP, Stick and Bandage only, and without using any healing items (to heal, anyway.)
Yeah, I think I'm pretty ok at the game.

The knight-knight betray kill was honestly the coolest part of the stream. A little crumb of new UT trivia as reward for getting through this challenge. As a treat.
As someone who did this myself I also worked out Knight Knight betrayal was faster, threatening Final Froggit and flexing with Aaron were all optimal!

Undertale is one of those games that in 15 years people are still going to be finding pointless little hidden details that no one has ever known about before.

Just pointing out that this mod is more hilariously sadistic than you'd think at first.
- No EXP is the obvious part of course
- Basically forcing you to use stick/bandage (the game will call you cringe if you don't)
- Gold is useless, everything will basically OHKO you
- At the end, after you kill Sans, when it doesn't even matter only THEN does your LV increase
It's comedic genius
gold is very useful, undyne only deals 9-10 damage per hit (it's kinda random), which means you can actually get hit twice before you need to heal, there's also stuff like sea tea and l. heros (you only need 8 items that heal 20 hp on sans anyway, might as well use the rest of the gold to speed up core grind)

Another small Undertale fact is, in the geno check for Papyrus, it says he's "forgettable". This actually ends up being true, as he normally checks in with you every now and again, so long as he's alive, and he always gets mentioned by both Undyne and Sans if he's not. The difference in geno is, Undyne mentions him as one of the people she feels she's failed when you "kill" her, and then he never gets brought up again. However, he does get referenced exactly once, in the first five notes of his theme being in the Core theme.
The moment, when he reached 2nd LV must be the most emotional moment in history of the channel.

I'm actually surprised Undyne the Undying is taking over 600 damage from 'quick hits', while the normal enemies take like 20 damage. Does she have like negative defense or something? Meanwhile the other bosses are just coded to die in one hit.
undyne takes 10x as much damage from attacks to compensate for her absurd health pool
It's like that for all bosses, apparently it's because your character is so determined that their determination does extra damage. Just not on enemies that aren't bosses. Each hit should've one hit ko any other boss, but undyne is so strong that she can take it.

@@Nore2554 Kind of a terrible weakness to be weak against evil people when you're meant to be the stronger creatures, when the weaker creatures don't get one-shot like that.
[It's probably actually more of a gameplay gimmick more than anything else. You put in the extra work to do Genocide, meanwhile skipping most of the "cool bosses" and puzzles. Undyne the Undying probably takes that much damage with her high HP to make an illusion of two high powered beings having a battle.]

I wonder, if you don't kill Papyrus or Undyne in this mod, could you still befriend Undyne, even after having killed every other monster in the Underground? 'Cause she won't befriend you in the base game if you have EXP to show that you've killed, but you don't gain EXP in this mod. So, in theory, I think it could work.

I used to speedrun this in my off time (Geno LOVE 1 Stick Bandage) as I really like the battle system in this game and this was the most logical way to max the challenge - this is accomplishable without major modding (sorta) by save editing your XP to the negatives and playing from there, though after Metatton NEO you'll get to LV 19 and therefore I had to close game and rechange the level down again at that point.
Honestly, when I saw your poll post? Was assuming this would be worse!
For Undying I always bought 3 Bisicles 5 Cinnamon Bunnies though due to me making it a speedrun I'd usually have to use some healing before getting to Undying on random mobs making the fight harder. The fight is so easy for me on regular play now - you know something's up when I call her scripted moves "phase 1" and the 4 she repeats "phase 2"! Fun fact - you high roll 666 damage on this fight, which is one of those things that I am unsure is intentional but is neat regardless. Undying's attack where she uses the small box with 3 spears has a godspot that I always used to rest my hands and eyes during said attack, and for her single spear spam I found she spawns less if you camp at the bottom of the box, but being in the middle is better for actually dodging what she spawns. Unsure how well known those are - I'd assume they're well known enough but Shayy didn't feel like using them here. I've nohit her a few times at LV1 but equally I've died with healing items so many times I still think she's harder than LV1 Sans who I can't nohit to this day but still frequently don't have to waste a turn (since I can heal at the halfway point).
Sadly I've lost the recordings now due to a hard drive failure and a PC switch but IIRC I got the time to just above an hour and a half without any glitch abuse because I didn't know how to do them (well, except grinding by walking at the top wall of rooms which I used a lot). Don't recall the exact time.
My favorite part of the run is when you have to ACT to boost the speed of certain random encounters - here are the examples I can all remember:
- Waste turn 1 on Doggo. Don't get hit. Pet turn 2. Don't get hit. Turn 3 he's a one shot due to betrayal. Missing takes up animation time and scrolling to MERCY to press Spare makes menuing slower, so the fastest option here is actually to CHECK him turn 1, which I found really great!
- Killing Jerry is never worth it, even to complete the grind. If I ever got 2 left in Snowdin and found an Ice Cap and Jerry encounter, it's actually optimal to flee and pray for a triple encounter next time. If I got three duos in a row here, I'd reset, and this happened a shockingly high amount of times. And yes, I could've told you it takes 57 turns to kill the trio encounter - when I counted for myself it was 55! I always Ditched him after finding out Spare isn't an option.
- Flex on Aaron to make him a two shot is something you tried to do then actually did do! The interesting bit is that you Flex with him to make the other monsters easier to kill - IIRC it was optimal to Flex once on a solo Aaron but twice on encounters with other monsters as you could one shot Woshuas that way.
- Shyren is faster as a betrayal kill - you Hum once then destroy her. Funnily enough I experimented with trying to sing with her to make Knight Knight faster later but no, you have to actually Spare her to do that and she counts as a miniboss aborting the murder run.
- You don't fight Tsunderplane. You just run from her.
- Slightly unrelated, but yes, you can't hit Muffet on a glancing blow and one shot her which I found pretty funny! I aimed around 30% of the way down the bar (with 50% being a perfect shot) and seemed to get it almost all the time.
- Astigmatism on his own doesn't have anything interesting, but with the "What a nightmare!" triple threat, you can Challenge him, to make the other two stop attacking, kill Astigmatism then the other two will skip their turns forever making the fight faster and safer.
- Final Froggit is far faster if you Threaten him. I think you threaten twice for a two shot? It's been a while.
- Unrelated again, but yes, Legendary Heroes can boost damage so I always bought them for the attack boost in case I needed to heal as it meant you didn't lose a turn healing. As an example, if you Hero once, you only have to Threaten Froggit once before he's two shottable.
- Knight Knight Madjick is my favorite thing. You seemed to work it out, but my favorite part about it is it makes Madjick's attacks have halve as many bullets. I do find it funny you're saying about if any of this is documented - I'm kinda kicking myself for not making my attempts more public (I've talked about it a bit on the speedrunning Discord a long time ago)

@@cyanideytandcuriousseadogg4160 sans has more rng than undyne, undyne's only rng is in 2 slow green soul attacks and that red soul attack where you need to avoid spears (4th attack in the fight) where sans has random height jumps, 3rd platform attack, platform blaster, random blaster, mini attacks and wall throws, but in both fights those rng aspects don't play a huge role and so both can be memorized

31:32 As a switch person, this is the way to go. Joycons for Any%/Genocide for the murder dance and Pro Controller for Pacifist/Neutral (no abort geno). I don't recommend Pro Controller, unless you are lazy to do the murder dance.
He wasn't lying about Undying being the hardest boss, he really just no-hit oneshotted Sans while brutally suffering from Undyne for a much longer time
Thing is Sans will do the same attack on each turn every attempt without fail. Eventually Sans will be pure muscle memory. But Geno Undyne Isn’t scripted on a turn by turn basis like sans. The attacks can change. You need to react to the attack and then let muscle memory take over. Also the Sans Damage per frame on this run is a boon. Undyne here just one shots the player. Sans needs 20 frames. Sans here gives 19 extra frames of leeway. Need I say more?

sparing most enemies doesn't abort geno, only bosses, minibosses really (run is also aborted if you don't kill snowdrake in snowdin, but you can technically spare him, you just gotta kill him eventually)

31:17 just thought i’d add it on here, if ur struggling with the sans fight on switch and u haven’t already done it, switch to the d pad rather than the joy stick for more precise movement, i normally use the joy stick when using my switch but the d pad is better for playing undertale

I did something like this (I called it LV1 challenge) and i was surprised no one (or atleast without recording) did this.
But it now changed, good job shayy!
I did it literally 5 years ago (Except I allowed myself using weapons and armor), realized how frickin hard Undyne the Undying was and decided to No Hit her.
I like interesting arbitrary challenges in games I like, so since this isn’t the first time you’ve shown in my feed with me choosing to watch, I’m gonna sub 👍🏻

I'm guessing the reason you went to LOVE 2 after beating Sans is because, in the code, he doesn't give experience, he just automatically sets you to the next LOVE value. Which since you're only every supposed to be LOVE 19 while fighting him, sets you to 20. But it was an oversight on the mod makers part?
