Excellent video! I always love seeing builds that focus on accessibility and roleplaying over min-maxing (no hate to those who prefer the latter ofc). Hope to see more in the future!
Yeh I'm in the same boat. I'll likely end up making some more min-maxed builds at some point, but I want to get some more of these beginner builds up first!
I genuinely wish this video was around a year ago. Went into BG3 knowing nothing about the genre. Took god knows how many restarts and 300+ hours to get to Act 3. Tried getting ChatGPT to help me understand. Every other video assumes you've been playing D&D since the 70s. Appreciate this man
I might switch my Karlach back to Barbarian. Switched her to Open Hand Monk because I got bored of Berserker but never did the Animal Hearts. Karlach is like a big ol’ mama bear 🐻
Honestly any of the 3 subclasses fit fell for karlach. Wildheart makes sense as she reconnects and has a new appreciation for nature after her time in avernuss as well as her experience with halsin and the druids. Berserker makes sense due to her being hunted by zariel and her will to survive, wildmagic also makes sense with the magical infernal engine inside her converting rage into magic.
I just got this game, and I’m doing a 4 elements monk as my first character (I tried hard for a few levels and I hated it), I’m in act 3 and I took my first level of barb at level 7, and man do I wish I became a barbarian sooner. I hit so hard now and I’m not even close to optimal
If you're a beginner playing on normal or lower (as AI doesn'tdo that much damage), Aspect of the Wolf is also a good choice. Gives advantage to allies (within 7ft) to hit enemies and gives "inciting howl" which allows allies to move an extra 10 ft. This way you kill all of your enemies before they have a chance to hit you 😁
Wolf is awesome if you remember to take advantage of it. I think this is why Wild Heart Barbs are my favorite (right now). There are so many viable builds you can make, it's crazy.
Brilliant, on my first playthrough I didn't understand any of this, and I think it is great to assure people that they can just play a character without all the special gear or multiclassing. Though I do still wish that multi-sub classing was a thing, that would make so much more sense to me.
Yeh I don't want new players to feel like they have to minmax every decision they make. A lot of the fun comes from the mistakes you make in this game.
To make it abundantly clear: If you're wearing clothing, but for example your headgear says Light Armour, or your boots say Medium Armour, that takes away your Unarmoured Defence, so either wear armour instead of clothing, or wear headgear and boots that don't say Armour. Additionally, never use Reckless Attack from the hotbar, in fact take it off completely. The game will prompt you to use it if you miss, so you don't give yourself negative effects before you need to, only when you do need to.
You are amazing, and the way you explain things is so… empowering. I could watch you explain every subclass In this game tbh, but now I’d like your view on the elk heart barb. Cheers from Brazil!
Quick question. Awesome video btw (my favorite bg3 channel so far). Doesn't savage attacker and relentless attack cnacdl eachother out??? What is the point in having them both when they seem to donthe same thing??
Ooo this is a great question! It's confusing because of the wording. Reckless Attack gives you Advantage on your Attack Rolls, which increases your chances to hit. Savage Attacker gives you Advantage on the Damage Roll, essentially. So it doesn't increase accuracy, only damage. Both work very well together!
Love the video as always (and now I want to play a barb) but also wanted to give you a heads up the Discord link throws an "invalid invite" error message
First playthrough I ever finished was a Barbarian (Half-Orc 9 Barb/3 Champion Fighter wielding Greataxes for the "big numbers go brrr" dopamine hit.) Current Honor Mode playthrough (just about to go to the House of Hope, so wish me luck!) is a remix of that same character & it's just as fun the 2nd time through, but had to make some changes to account for the Honor Mode ruleset. I'm fighting the restartitis, because I really want to download some mods so I can play another barbarian all the way to level 20 wielding Blackrazor!
@@PanicRolling A very underrated class for your MC, too. So many dialogues that you get to roll with Advantage just because Barbarian. A 10 or 12 in Charisma is sufficient, but I usually bump that to 14 once I pick up the Gloves of Dexterity. Never felt like this character was weaker in dialogue than a Paladin, Bard, or Warlock. Edit; nice to see you mention this. Not something I see others bring up. For other single-class, beginner friendly builds, straight Fighter is vanilla, but there's a reason vanilla is popular.
Yes. You could have 4 Bards that each covered a drastically different role in the group, too. But 4 Swords Bards would stomp through BG3 with no issues.
Is it just me? I mean we are talking Barbarians here. After the comment "Without rage you are just a dumbass in a loin cloth." I was expecting something instead of "With rage you are or one of the tankiest characters possibly imaginable in this game." I would have liked something along the lines of "With rage you are still a dumbass in a loin cloth. But you are one of tankiest builds in the game and will strike fear into the hearts of your enemies". . Apologies for the back seat scripting. Humor runs through my brain and I have no tact. . 10/10 video. WW

I might switch my Karlach back to Barbarian. Switched her to Open Hand Monk because I got bored of Berserker but never did the Animal Hearts. Karlach is like a big ol’ mama bear 🐻
I think this build fits her very well. She's been through some rough times, but she's tough as hell. (Pun sorta intended?)
Karlach makes the funniest noises as a monk. She sounds like an exaggerated Bruce Lee
@@GeneralAllenby4Aqaba lmao yeah that’s true. I love the fighting sounds from monk as well as vicious mockery cuz the voice lines are hilarious

Monks are great, too! You can do ridiculous damage and have really good mobility.

Yes. You could have 4 Bards that each covered a drastically different role in the group, too.
