I am man enough to admit I tear up every time I watch this. This was their last concert and last song together. As I understand it, the lead singer left the group and a few months later the guitarist in the yellow passed away. Knowing this makes it just that much more emotional and to be sung to by the crowd as you left stage for the last time just can not fathom how that must have felt. Thank you for reacting to this video.

      Hello and greetings from Germany!
You got most things right, except that this wasn't the last song of this concert.
This was their last song before a break in the program as this show lasted over 3 hours.
In the link above you'll find the last song they played before disbanding for 10 years as well as the reactions of the fans in the crowd and a tribute video of their time as a band with some of their favorite moments that is still all part of the concert, but the last song they played "live" together was fittingly called "The Last Song".
And a little warning: Prepare some tissues as this video has some seriously strong onions.
Have a nice day and We Are X! 🙅‍♂️X🙅‍♀️

What is kind of an interesting fact, Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal in Babymetal) was born 11 days before the Last Live. Which in some ways makes Babymetal feel like some sort of continuation of Japanese rock/metal with passion.

Toshi (singer) didn't want to do this concert. He felt that the fans hated him and wanted to attack him for quitting the band which caused the band to break up but Hide (guitarist) convinced him to do it. There is an excellent documentary called "We are X" that goes through the history of X Japan.

Please do more X Japan. They have crazy backstory, they broke up because the vocalist (Toshi) got brainwashed into joining a cult who did mental and physical harm to him and pushed him to disband the band. Few months later after this concert, Hide (pink haired guitarist) killed himself (either by accident or on purpose), Hide had solo career going on and had very different music style compared to X Japan. Yoshiki who is the pianist/drummer/composer and lyricist, has deep background, from when he was born doctors told his mother he wouldnt live very long, he had severe asthma and a fragile body, his father committed suicide when he was 10, he was already into classical music (piano) but his mother got him drums as a gift. He started drumming hard to comprehend the pain and sadness and anger due his father's passing, eventually after drumming so hard he had to wear a neckbrace and take medication, he was even collapsing on stage for the lack of oxygen, Yoshiki had surgery done to his neck/back few years ago, without it he would be paralyzed. Yoshiki composed a song for the Emperor of Japan and a song for the golden globe awards, Yoshiki had his own comic done by Stan Lee. X Japan was such a huge impact in Japanese society from their punk-ish crazy style to the music, since there wasnt a lot of that type of thinking in Japan back then, they have crazy musical influence in japanese rock, there is timeline where they say music is after X japan or before X japan, they started Visual Kei style, which then originated a lot of bands in japan. Yoshiki directed a documentary about X Japan called We Are X! Its one of the best documents ive personally seen, people from guns n roses, kiss , marilyn manson and other greatly known bands said that if X japan was to be born in USA or they would sing in english they were to be the biggest band in the world.
the pink haired guitarist hide (Hideto Matsumoto) died by accidentally falling asleep on a doorknob, doing some kind of neck-stretch while intoxicated, he died few months after X Japan disbanded in 1997(this concert), Yoshiki mainly did all of X Japans songs from lyrics to composing, but hide had done few songs for X Japan such as Sadistic Desire which is one of my favourites, and many others. hide's funeral was attended by 50 000+ people and flowers honoring his memory was stacked on 2km long lane, some fans even did copycat suicides after they heard the news. Hide has been compared to Kurt Cobain as a musician, he had extreme talent and vision about art and music, sadly we can only enjoy his musical achievements until 1998.

On QUEEN's youtube channel, you can watch Yoshiki of X Japan, Brian and Roger of QUEEN, BABYMETAL, Sarah Brightman, SixTones and LiSA performing "Endless Rain" to start off 2021. At one part, it was amazing to see and hear both Su and Moa singing at the same time! And during Su's solo part, her voice was so deep and beautiful! 🦊🤘

There are so many connections between X-Japan and BabyMetal specifically. It's been said that NRNR is a tribute to Endless Rain. The neck brace is a tribute and a reminder as to the damage excessive headbanging can do to a person. Yoshiki who was playing the piano is also the drummer. He needed to have surgery because of the hard headbanging he did. The "We Are" done by BabyMetal is also a tribute to the "We Are X".

"Endless Rain" is a masterpiece. Rolling Stone referred to the song as "November Rain, minus the bullshit" and called it X's first big chart hit
PS - YES, this was their last concert, in 1997. after that, the band got disbanded or inactive. and so many things happened after that. one of the guitarists died in 1998. i encourage you to dig into X JAPAN. they are considered the father of rock in japan. they were really true rockstars.

    • @autohmae
      @autohmae 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Some say Purple Rain from Prince inspired X-Japan Endless Rain and one or both inspired Guns N Roses November Rain. What we do know pretty much for certain Endless Rain inspired No Rain, No Rainbow by Babymetal. Judging how X-Japan performed Endless Rain with some of the members of Queen, Queen was probably an inspiration as well.

bro, this song live hits so hard, no wonder they did a beautiful version with many more artists including Babymetal last new year eve.
I also noticed at least 80% of the audience were female, that chorus at the end is clearly proof of that :P
yesterday Takayoshi Ohmura and Boh-sama did a livestream of the Kari Band (or Angels of Dark, i guess that's their band name now) and they played one of the shows were Mikio was playing with them, my heart couldn't take so many emotions rushing T_T
Thanks for this and i hope you watch many more songs from X-Japan \m/

Although I prefer X Japan's fast songs, Endless Rain from Last Live brings me to tears each time I watch it. I find it heartbreaking how singer Toshl went to sit next to each of the other members, how they were fighting their tears. They were disbanded for 10 years but got together again (except for late guitarist Hide) and toured the world. Interestingly, if I'm not mistaken, their last concert in 2018 was the unprecedented No Audience Concert - long before Covid 19. For more reactions on X Japan I would suggest: Scars th-cam.com/video/kS7XDGMG-UI/w-d-xo.html (one of Hide's compositions in a completely different style) and: Kurenai th-cam.com/video/z9TUHK0I4Ik/w-d-xo.html (from 2009, shortly after reunification) or th-cam.com/video/U1rKgMkwB68/w-d-xo.html (version from the band's Visual Key times) - maybe their most popular song and my personal farourite. I keep believing they will be back after the pandemic is over.

If someone wrote this exact scene as the climax of a movie about some fictional band, people would call bullshit. And keep in mind that this show was in Tokyo, with an almost entirely Japanese audience, who were all singing the band's _English_ lyrics to them. Someone could've made a ton of money selling kleenex in that arena.
If X Japan were "born in America or England and sang in English, they might be the biggest band in the world."

and to think that this song was produced mostly because their then label sony (1989) wanted them to have at least one ballad, even though yoshiki (piano, drummer, main guy behind the band) had no intention of producing any at the time. so he basically just hammered this out on a whim.

This was their last concert, the band broike up in 1997. In 1998 their lead guitarist, Hide, died. But the band came back together later on and started performing again. Yoshiki, the pianist/drummer, is the elder statesman of metal today, and the neck brace Babymetal wears comes from him. He cracked some vertebrate headbanging too hard and had to wear a neckbrace on the drums.

TOSHI's final live performance in a brainwashed and suffering state. His microphone had been prepared by the staff to be disconnected if he made any unusual remarks. During this song, vocalist TOSHI circles around to apologize to each member. A while after this concert, TOSHI hides in front of HIDE, the pink-haired guitarist who had died, but HIDE looks angry, because HIDE is an adult and he must have seen TOSHI as a victim. This whole show was a sad farewell, and a farewell to the band for the fans as well.

It was their last concert at the time... The lead singer was brainwashed by a cult who told him he shouldn't do it anymore... A bit after this the lead guitarist died too... A while later the lead singer came back and they started performing together again... I think they're still working on a new album, but it's been a while and I don't think we've heard anything about it recently... The drummer/pianist/songwriter has been having some health problems and neck surgeries and such... Hopefully we eventually get that album though lol. Who knows?
Still, I got to see them in London a few years ago and they were pretty amazing... Some of the intervals were kinda long though, which isn't too surprising given the drummer has neck problems, pretty much all types of repetitive strain injuries, asthma and still plays drums like a madman lol Apparently they have to keep oxygen cannisters for him and sometimes he passes out. Sadly, I think I had to miss the very last part because I had work the next day and had to get the train home... I'm not sure if they were encores or planned intervals... I think they might have had 30 to 45 minutes breaks each time... And people were still chanting the whole time lol I think they deserve it though.

Also a little fun fact i actually know why when i listen to babymetal's no rain no rainbow for a number of years it reminds me of X JAPAN's endless rain, its because X JAPAN actually have alot of influence on babymetal in some if not most of their performance. So its not just metallica and other western bands influence them, ofcourse X JAPAN influenced babymetal why did i not think of that. Its only when i listen to no rain no rainbow is when it reminds me of X JAPAN and if i am not wrong babymetal's no rain no rainbow is a direct tribute to X JAPAN endless rain
There is actually a video of su and moa with a number of other artists like if im not wrong queen band members singing to this song on a japanese show for a new year thing or something

I AM CONFUSED??? Is the guy in yellow a hologram? Did he die during a band down time? They did have his hologram during concerts at some point; and paid his family money to do that. They refused to perform without him? I think they once had to delay performing till the hologram was fixed? The new guitarist also plays excellent during an intro to one song. btw, Japan can be a super depressed country like Sweden. Very high suicide rate. Maybe that is why they excel at super kawaii everything?
