Just binge watched the whole series. At first I wondered why the CRF450RL wasn't a good bike for the course. Then when I got to part 5, I thought "Okay. Tough, but doable." Video six and seven definitely looked like stuff I wouldn't want to take the 450 on, and I've got the aftermarket ECU and Rekluse clutch (which makes it all MUCH easier). The later videos looked like Beta XTrainer territory.
I loved reading this! Not only because it was interesting enough to binge watch, but that you wouldn’t wanna take your better equipped RL through this either, which makes me feeling like the bike wasn’t cut out for it. The weapon of choice for this rally was definitely the Austrian 300cc two strokes (which I now have, and it makes technical riding so easy it’s almost not fair!)
Thanks for watching! Me too, it’s been a busy year with a new job and furthering education for it, as well as coaching my kids travel hockey team. I wanna get back into the swing of things with the new bikes I have
Enjoyed the videos. Tough course. Have had my 450L since it first came out in late 2018. Been great bike. You are right, it don’t like to lugged. Changing the ECU helped tremendously.
Thanks for watching, glad you liked it! I knew to make the bike better I would have to change the ecu, but wanted to see if it could do it in stock form. If I had kept the bike I would definitely invest in the ecu upgrade.
Got through this mini series. I was thinking that most of this run looks easy, partly because of the camera angle and the pacing. I have done most of my trail riding on dry loose dirt/gravel at Rampart Range here in Colorado, where most of it is dry, loose gravel. A good single day ride usually puts in about 30 miles and I'll be somewhat exhausted. My downfall from this would be dealing with the wet rocks and steep hills. XR250 currently, still debating on the 450RL almost 5 years later.
Thanks for watching! Camera angle definitely killed the inclines, which were really tough on the high strung 450RL. The RL is ok for high speed stuff, but for anything slow and technical, it’s a nightmare. I’d say 300 two stroke if you wanna do stuff like I did in this rally, but if you’re hitting more roads and faster stuff, the RL should be good

Man 100% feel you. Smart to call it a day and live to see another day :)
I was so exhausted! I don’t know how I didn’t get hurt through the day
