😂 As a lead guitarist I could keep you here for an hour, but I’ll just chalk it up to …maybe it was one of those make a wish things for a fan 🤷♂️🎸👀. In reality, this is a song that’s caused all kinds of issues for his bands over the years. It didn’t make it on his Live in LA DVD cause the bassist got off on the timing. You can hear the drummer hesitate on this one trying to find the beat to come in on… then the crowd claps off every time. It IS a really awkward timing, but once your that lost just call it a day and start dancing or take a piss break ha. He was so rattled he started trying to mix Your Body’s riff with Hendrix fills on Wonderwall.
@@jeffrey.a.hanson You sure it wasn't the phone that was recording this / their proximity to the speakers (I thought I saw another user comment that)? I'm no sound expert, but there's another upload of this performance here on TH-cam by a guy called Mitch Wright and to my ears the timing sounds just fine.
@@AnaheimZoo I might just agree. Good call. I watched the Mitch Wright video…- Mayer uses live amps mic’d up to the PA. The phone being this close does seem to cause some proximity issues since it’s picking up the on stage amps and Johns actual voice/guitar. With that said, check out the Mike Nero clip “Your Body is a Wonderland- John Mayer- Scotiabank Arena)” 6 months ago. How does that sound to you comparably?
@@jeffrey.a.hanson I can't take credit for the observation, haha; it appears whoever pointed it out deleted their original comment (unless the poster of this video shared other songs that had similar sound/timing issues). That video you brought up does seem to have the same sort of issue as this one, but not nearly to as jarring an extent, at least at first. As the song goes on, it sounds like it gets worse, especially during the drum "solo" just before John comes back in for the final chorus. But to my [amateur] ears, John's guitar, the bass, and the kick drum / snare are in sync. It's the lead guitar and this strange echo(?) from the drums that sounds funky. I like to think that John, or anyone else in the band, would stop the song if they felt the timing was *that* off (surely one can easily pick up on that if you play with a group long enough), but obviously I could be wrong!
Isn’t this one of the songs that didn’t make Live in LA cause of bassist had timing issue? You could hear the drummer test the waters with two early snare taps and still came in a bit off as well. I thought he might do a restart, but John locked in, but guitar never did. My bet is band took a quick water break while he chatted, then came in on a song they hadn’t played live together… but, that guitar is still too loud in the mix so it tells me something else was up too. Idk. He also seemed surprised by Wonderwall.
someone want to explain what is happening with the lead guitar lol

First time hearing Sharkey having timing issues🙃. Great performance overall!
Yeah, I'm sorry but man it sounds amateurish.
@@fedoff2190 Don't be sorry man... It's just a fact 🙃
@@asmit_plays he obviously had technical issues, click track issues/ foldback issues... they are all world class..

He just played on a omjm?
Yup. A new omjm too.
Yeah, he seems incredibly comfortable with that guitar. I’d love to get my hands on one. It seems a bit brighter than most Martins.
What the fuck was that
Sharkey
