Me too actually. I was hoping it was a new comedy musician. I was actually a little disappointed that it was just John Mayer singing about being hung up on an old relationship even though new hot girls are hitting on him. If he actually releases "knutley in your face" or "stabbed to life" I'd be much more inclined to listen.

Mayer is a guitar maestro, and has produced acoustic rock, pop, blues, blues rock. And has a very great style of singing. In my opinion, as a guitarist and a musician, John is better than Ed.
I'm not hating on Ed lol, he is talented, he can sing, from singing on the streets to singing on concerts. He has produced cachy music that has caught the attention of many people. He is no doubt good, but for me, John Mayer is better.

Clayton Gordon it's real in the sense that people are actually playing instruments, instead of computer generated tracks. And by return I think he means the return to the mainstream. There are plenty of bands playing great real music, but not a lot of it would be considered mainstream. (Not that being left of center is a bad thing.) I'd rather listen to John Mayer than almost anything else on the radio.

John plays whatever really, no company can tell him what to play. He plays out of benefit for him and the company, as in the company builds him what he wants, and he promotes it, but if he isn't free to play other stuff I'm pretty sure he is not going to support it, just like he left fender because they were telling him what to play.
