You have to love Chuck he did a great job on that punch holder. There must be a way to make a wood jig to make sure your punches are flat 🤔. Great job you two
Great deal on the Starret punches, you did excellent work. Nice approach to straightening the 3/32” punch then retempering, would probably been my way of doing it, or at least I’d like to think I would be smart enough to approach the repair anyway, thanks for the update, enjoyed watching.
I like to stare at your new punch caddy, well done. The punches look fantastic, especially with the blue knurling. I must confess that I liked the punch better with the medium conditioning belt, looked shinier to me. All good!
What a beautiful transformation. Chuck's stand is the icing on the cake. Used Starret tools are expensive, so your $5 deal is great. Just what I like to see. The annealing/quenching/tempering process was very interesting. I didn't know about the magnet trick.
Love the caddy. Everything turned out great. I missed the history lesson on Starrett tools. Thanks for these videos. Always entertaining and educational.
Great video...always learn something. Please give Chuck my best on election day. When we see him again he will have wood worker, detailer and politician on his shingle. Thanks again.
Hey !Bonjour Magdad vraiment un beau nettoyage, ils sont neufs, et le présentoir est superbe, Chuck et sa boîte à outils peuvent êtres contents, comme maître Magdad. ❤
I dig those Starrett punch sets. You did a fine job on the resto. Chuck also was very impressive with his caddy, I think he may even do better work that you Magdad ;-)
I remember when you got those punches as i had picked up the same set the same week!! My set is still setting on my bench waiting its turn. I hope mine turn out as nice as yours did. These came out beautiful!!
Like new! Love the caddy. Starrett makes some nice tools. I have some of my grandfathers tools that have to be 70+ years old and are still going strong.
Starrett's days of making quality products are behind them now. Soon they'll be another defunct brand that's being made in China. They're not going strong at all lately.
I have my grandfather's set which goes down to 1/16". They are pre-WWII. They have domed tops as well. So, Starrett has been doing that for quite some time.
Nice video. i recently picked up a tool box at a flea market and it has a couple of punches and nail setters. I was fascinated by some of the cool knurling designs. I think they are the next thing I am going to start to collect. this video is going to help with the resto job. Thanks. And, I have to say Chuck has really stepped his woodworking skills. That holder came out great. Way to go Chuck.
Nice restoration Mr Magdad the punch set looks brand new I was going suggest making a nice leather tool holder for the punch set but Mr Chuck beat me to the punch line and the little wooden tool holder came out great .. Hey take care enjoy your Sunday looking forward to Wednesday video
My 1980 Mini shift linkage is held together by a spring roll pin. I had to go to Sears to find a proper drift pin punch. The guys at the auto parts store had no clue.
Nice job. Might I ask where you find the sticker/badge for the caddy? I have also seen others acquire new stickers for old equipment. I don't think I've ever heard how they are made or where they acquired them. Thanks.
I found the image online and printed out a water slide decal with my inkjet printer. I went over the process in my Estwing ball peen video: th-cam.com/video/Qob-1iIg-xo/w-d-xo.html
Thanks Magdad, those punches were a great find and your restoration was really nice ! Not a criticism for sure but interesting to note the apparent slight difference in the blueing effect on the knurled sections, I wonder if this is down to the composition of each punch or something else ? Nice caddy too, good work Chuck !
Hello again, 357Magdad Thank you for another Great Video 👍 Question for you, I couldn't tell from the video. Were you able to keep the concave end intact? Otherwise, it looks beautiful. Again thank you 👌
Excellent project. Flitz also makes a metal pre-clean fluid that works well. Just wondering if you have tried it. BTW my parents are from your neck of the woods. My father was born in Flemington and my mother in Rocky Hill.
@@357magdad I keep mine in a drawer full of punches and chisels and the pouch goes in there good. I have a couple loose pin drifts in another drawer of punches and chisels too. I don't know how many punches and chisels are enough but I haven't gotten there yet I don't think.
Hi Magdad, best videos. I have a question, I’m restoring a Mill Falls 2 1/2 inch vice and I wanted to get new Miller Falls decals. I saw on one of your videos you did that. could you please tell me how and where to find the Miller Falls logo. thanks a lot! Tom
Thanks for watching Tom! I look for images online and make my own inkjet water slide decals. I go over it in my Estwing video: th-cam.com/video/Qob-1iIg-xo/w-d-xo.html
A chuck I was just wondering if you guys had the round wooden box that those punches came in At least that's what they came in when I bought them The early 80's

That Chuck is sure skilled. 😂
He did a fine job!
Beautiful restoration Magdad, their perfect now. Chuck is very talented too!!!
Thanks Michael!
Punches came out great, and Chuck's caddy is awesome.
Thanks!
I like the old Craftsman chrome punches (and chisels), even if the ends get a little messed up the rest tends to stay relatively rust free.
I'm not a big fan of plating! I'd rather just maintain polished steel.
Came out great! Glad to see Chuck's back to work. It's been far too long. Fabulous caddy!
Thanks! He is very proud of his caddy!
Chuck's the man - he cqn put a shine on most anything. I like those punchs and picked some up in the past as well. Nice design.
Chuck and I were workin' on some brass today! Wait till you see the shine!
Well Magdad you've got 5 really nice punches and a really cool caddy for them! Starrett rules!!
Thanks Mike!
They came out really nice. The blued knurling with the polished ends has a great contrast. Good on Chuck for making the caddy.
Thanks! We had fun!
What a great job you and Chuck did! Thank You for sharing!!!!
Thanks Jack! Chuck is very proud of his caddy!
Well done, the "blue" looks real good
Thanks!
Very Nice! A lovely new home for a fine set of punches! WELL DONE CHUCK! I am sure Magdad helped too! 😊😊😊
Thanks! Chuck is very proud of his work.
Great work on the punches and the caddy. The “Starrett logo on the caddy really set it off well.
Thanks! Mrs Magdad helped us pick out the decal.
Nice job straightening and hardening Bud!!☻
Thanks RoadKing!
The punches look brand new and Chuck's drive punch caddy is fantastic!

Not all the time. I just picked up a little Starrett parallel clamp for 50 cents. That's not expensive.
Awesome restoration, I wish we all had a Chuck to make such great things !
Thanks Tony! Chuck is a treasure!
Chuck`s caddy is sweet he did outstanding job! Starrett punches came out nice as well.
Thanks Rodney!

looking great magdad! I've only found a single Starrett punch at an estate sale...gotta keep searching.
Thanks Matt! I found a couple good Starrett pieces this year!

You can never have too many punches. Having the right one for a task is the difference between success and failure in many cases.
Very nicely done! Starter punches are as good as you can buy. Congrats!

Chuck did a beautiful job ‼️👍👍

Cherry red then straw is what I remember but kudos to you for retempering that punch. A fine set and love the caddy too.
I use straw for knife blades, but I was worried it would be too hard for a punch.

Great display build Chuck! I really need to learn to do stickers . Nice all around job Magdad!!
Thanks Vic! I use inkjet printer water slide decals.
Way to go Chuck and Magdad!
Thanks!
Nice job! I love the starrett punches!
Thanks!
Looking good! I’ve used a drill on pieces like this. But chucking them up you get a pretty even grind or polish against a belt or wheel.
Thanks Anthony! I barely removed any metal with the 400 grit belt.
They look great. Love the blueing
Thanks!
I’m thinking the radius around the top edge of the punch is to prevent mushrooming and cracking the steel. Great job magdad!
You're probably right!
Thank you for the video, now I know what to do with my 2 sets
Thanks William! Make a caddy like Chuck's!
Cadillac of Caddies. 🧐👍
