Many crafters and DIY'ers assume patterns are ridged, inflexible and dictated assignments, meant for very seasoned sewers only... Completely wrong! As I said, if we're going to spend a butt load of cash on lovely material, a $10 slipcover pattern is a pretty savvy investment! :)
I confess I've never been a fan of the tub chair because they've always looked so plain and boring to me but you have managed to make me think twice about them just because of the lovely texture you brought to the piece. That pleating is the business and it just elevates the chair to a new level and brings the cosiness to the forefront. I love how you put the warning out there about never having tried something before and then pull a rabbit out of a hat. Why are we only 17 days into 2021 and you are giving us DIY Life already?!
I'm glad you pace yourself and don't try to buy everything, open it up when you get home and dive right in. You're fresh the next day and can think thru your next steps. Any leftover fabric could make a pillowcase or maybe get used for a textile art project, perhaps?

I love the tufting with the pool noodles! the only thing I dont absolutely love is the pleating, I think it makes it really look like a blanket vs a fancy fabric
As someone with lots of upholstery experience I was like, ooof you’re gonna need at lest 4 yards 😂 also, if you aren’t finishing your fabric edges with a fabric like that, especially on the pillow, you’re gonna end up with little fluffs everywhere! Excellent design!
I’m so impressed! I was thinking about what it must take to do something you haven’t tried before, and I realized that there’s an overlap between creativity and daring to be able to try new things. You my friend are creative and daring, and it’s inspiring to see.
When you stated what the pool noodles were for, I was worried you wouldn't have enough fabric. I'm glad the seam came out so well-hidden. I also worried that your pool noodles would not space out correctly and you'd have a couple of inches of chair left over. It turned out really well. But I worry (gosh I worry a lot!) that sitting on the cushion will put too much stress on the thread and it will pull out of the cushion over time. I actually re-covered a chair just like that because the cats tore it up. I did it the traditional way and I have a sewing machine. Your's turned out so much more elegant than mine did!
Dude. This is seriously your niche. Crafting and art. You seem to pull off ANYTHING. I feel proud of you. I’m glad that you can do some well that makes you happy
I bow down to your huge talent. Who knew that pool noodles could be so versatile, lol. I currently have two rather large leather sofas which are about 12 years old and for a few months I've been toying with the idea of getting rid of one of them and buying a couple of lounge chairs just to free up some space. I would not immediately think IKEA but the chairs shown in your video make me curious to check 'em out. Once again you've knocked a design project outa the park!
I'll admit that I'm not a fan of the boucle, the scalloping or the pleating, but I can't get over how fantastic this ikea flip ended up. I can definitely see it in homes with a more eclectic vibe. Great job!
Brave Boy. I would never have had the guts to wing it even if I thought it out. But it gives this old crone enough courage to do a smaller item I have avoided. Thank you Much.
It makes it a lot easier if you start with a thrift store chair. I’ve done a few and have never gone over $50. That way if you mess up it’s not as daunting.
What I've always liked about you is your lack of fear when it comes to something you haven't tried before. Great job. It turned out so cute and it looks comfortable too.!

My Nannie was a professional upholsterer and worked out of her basement when I was growing up (she raised me and I remember playing in all the filler and material while listening to “The Young and The Restless” 😆). She would probably not approve of your method but I think it turned out AMAZING 😉
I have upholstery experience, and I knew that wasn’t enough fabric! The pool noodle idea was a good one, but I might have attached them to cardboard or burlap, and approached the front of the chair more traditionally. Attaching the back portion as the finishing touch.
I understand why she would not approve. Now that I am an upholstery student, all I do is scream nooo, no no no at every step. But I really do love this idea with the foam at the back. Very creatieve ❤️
It looks great! But the back is so nice, I would move the chair somewhere else in the living room, turned in such a way that you can see the back of the chair when you come into the room, and it's not up against a wall or window. I think the back of the chair is the best part because of the way you made it.
Love your creativity! As a VM I've covered chairs before (did an office chair once which was super challenging) but I was so proud of the result. I don't go the traditional way either, happy to use a glue gun, staple gun and if necessary upholstery tacks, whatever gets the job done, but I totally get the feeling of satisfaction you feel when you pull it off, it can be so rewarding.

The way it's ended on the chairs I've recovered is with a kind of tack strip. Take a strip of cardboard. Furniture tacks about every inch or inch and a half. Tucked into the fabric so the sharp ends come through. Fold over. Then it's tapped into place with a small hammer. Basically the tack strip goes into the hem.
