    When you’re dyeing, it helps if you pre-wash the item. That removes the sizing. After you dye it, add white vinegar to the water in the washing machine. That will set the dye. Love your videos!

    Hi! Leaving the stain for 15 min does not change how much/ how the wood grain takes the stain. Instead it may leave blotchy spots. Always wipe right after applying stain, if the wood does not get the color how you want you can re-apply again and wipe right after. However, leaving it longer or doing multiple coats will not change drastically from the first time you apply stain. How it looks or “soaks” it up depends on the type of wood grain.
    💕

    • @gurubhaikhalsa9337
      @gurubhaikhalsa9337 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      That has not been my experience with stain. I always apply pre-stain wood conditioner, and immediately apply a first coat of stain. 24 hours later I apply a second coat. The second coat always makes it even and dark, no blotchiness. Patience seems to pay off every time.

    • @ashleywilson2709
      @ashleywilson2709 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      if its a soft wood, a wood conditioner is a must, this allows the stain to be evenly applied and not blotchy. hard woods don't need this step

    You need to wash the sheets first to remove the manufacturer’s fabric sizing. I’ve always been taught that the fabric should be wet prior to dying. As is stated on the bottle of dye. I think that is the reason the dye was so light. Love your ideas and videos thank you.

      Unless the dye says otherwise on the box you have to use salt to fix the colour.... otherwise it just washes out.

    A tip for tie dye! Wash your fabric BEFORE dying to get rid of any sizing (fabric stiffening starches). Also, dye wet fabric instead of dry fabric. Both those steps make it much easier for the dye to penetrate the fabric!

    A few years ago I wanted a light purple quilt cover but couldn't find one I liked. So I bought a plain white cover at a charity shop (thrift store), got some Dylon dye and proceeded to dye it.
    Well surprise, surprise as it wasn't actually as plain as I'd thought. The dye brought up a beautiful Paisley pattern that had been on the cover that I just hadn't noticed until dyeing it as it was white on white!! (I don't know what you call that).
    Within no time, my daughter had that cover as she, too, fell in love with it!
    The Paisley print showed up as a light purple, too, but slightly lighter than the rest of the cover because of whatever had made the print!

    My first tie-dye was an elementary school art project in the 60’s. I made a scarf for my Mom for Mother’s Day. Naturally plenty more tie-dying afterwards as well. In the 80’s my twin daughters wanted to dress up as hippies for Halloween so that was their first time tie-dying. The local newspaper posted photos of them and labeled them Peace & Love. I still love love tie dye. Thanks for the inspiration as always.

    You could fill the gap at the top of the tray with wood filler/caulking and sand it down for a smoother finish! Loved the side table so much.

    I always enjoy your tutorials and I love the way you just "go with it" sometimes! It builds my confidence to not put up roadblocks in my own way when I am not so sure what I am doing!

    Big pot with salt . When boiling, add the fabric and let it boil for a few minutes. Let in seat in the water until it gets cold. Then rinse with cold water.

    I’ve got to tie dye sheets for my spare room!! Very nice!! This week I’m chalk painting & stenciling an old sleigh bed anthropology style! Can’t wait to see the end product 😊
