I thought he was gonna insert the barrel before realising there was something else he needed to adjust but it actually makes more sense that he had to double-check where his tools were.

Yes, Joel always had in his backpack a almost brand new military scope but couldn't find 4 screws to attach it to his hunting rifle.
It's one of the more possible things in this game
With all the raided and abandoned military camps checkpoints and trucks it would plausible that Joel might find a scope in good enough condition to use
perhaps the screws were already on the scope , he just have to re-adjust them

@BRUVVAA the point I'm making is that there should be more animations if it's built from the ground up. Every gun shouldn't have so many cleaning animations, although I do know that cleaning effectively really helps the gun

The way Joel upgrades his weapons in some of the animations is like a kid when you give them something and they let their mind wonder. The kid would just start doing random things and in their mind they’d be like, “so after this it should have more strength and durability.”

@@daegnaxqelil2733 actually yes to a certain extent. A longer barrel will yield more bullet velocity. Higher velocity bullets usually equals more damage
I love the increased realism of the upgrade system in the remake. Joel clearly already has the parts and the knowledge to install them, as he was a veteran arms-dealer in the Boston QZ (the entire quest begins due to a misappropriated shipment of guns). He simply requires additional tools and necessary bits such as correctly sized screws, which are hard to acquire due to industrial collapse and subsequent loss of standardisation.

To all those who it may concern, cleaning a gun can improve it slightly, like making it less likely to jam up or even prevent damage, this could be correspondent with some upgrades seen, like fire rate, accuracy, reload speed an maybe even damage. But no, you will not be able to jam in two more 12 gauge shells into a tube, just by giving it a quick rub down with an oily rag.

My guess is that these animations ‘represent’ more extensive cleaning, IE: the tube might have been filled with crap preventing more shells from being properly loaded. Though they could have made them better, like having Joel replace the spring or something similar if they didn’t want to replace the tube continuously.
Nah nah, that dirty rag gives you a +2 capacity on any weapon you have by offering it metal scrap.

I absolutely love the touch of Joel setting down the revolver cylinder and it rolling away from him.
I just realized that from all the enemies you face in the game, whoever gets to kill you is gonna win a jackpot, for real just take a look at that max upgraded El Diablo! The dude would think "Wha- where the fuck did he find this beast?" and then he realizes Joel was carrying a whole arsenal in his backpack, even a freaking Flamethrower! I can imagine the shock on their face, happiest survivor ever lol
They will also find a random papers, military training books, comic books, some sugar, a rag, a couple pairs of scissors, and a pouch of explosives.
If they were a survivor that had no choice but to kill Joel for his supplies, upon reading all his collection material & a picture of him & Sera, they would probably feel bad for killing what seemed like a special someone on a personal mission.

My Shotgun holds 500 rounds now.
Hollywood has some of the cleanest guns in the universe, some of those people have yet to reload.

Very interesting choice to replace the Colt Defender with a Browning HP, although it’s a welcome change since the Browning was in TLoU 2 but was unusable

Not just a Hi Power, but a Detective Model.
Also noticed Ellie's guns are different too.
Joel gives her something that looks more like a Walther PPK than her old Beretta Cheetah.
And before in the scene instead of using the same bolt rifle, she uses a Mauser lookin rifle.
In all actuality I would rather Joel got to use a scoped Mauser.

Check out the scene where Ellie has to cover Joel with a rifle.
In the original it was just the same bolt rifle as Joel's, albeit unscoped.
Now Ellie utilizes a WWII style military rifle.
12:47 dont know if anyone noticed this, but as joel wipes down the shotgun, the added ammo capacity extension thingy ( the bit added at the first capacity upgrade) progressively gets cleaner with every wipe.
Yeah i noticed that too its not just with the shotgun either the leather wrap he puts on the shortys handle looks cleaner after he wipes it too

well if you look the mag extention has dirt outside and maibe too inside and cleaning it it release space but tbh idk
I like these animations of them showing how they swap out the parts on the weapons. I would wish they weren't as odd as they are. I think maybe a short montage of them doing an upgrade that would take a long time. Like say for a level 1 fire rate upgrade, you get a montage of Joel disassembling his pistol to clean the OEM trigger then reassembly. A level 2 fire rate upgrade is a disassembly montage again followed by Joel swapping out the trigger for a new one then reassembly. A level 3 upgrade is again, another disassembly montage, followed by maybe a hammer swap, then reassembly. Something like that, doesn't have to be super realistic. Just something that isn't as goofy as wiping down your rifle/shotgun for better stopping power/ammo capacity.
Yea like, they can just fade in, fade out with new camera angles for every action. It's still cool for some weapons but most are just wipe, play with it a little and then bam, better weapon, it's goofy

The animations are certainly an improvement from Part II, both in Joel's movement and the changes made to the weapons. However, I wish basic animations weren't repeated several times, like with the shotgun capacity.
Yeah I love how much more detailed the upgrade animations are compared to Part II, but my biggest issue here was how redundant a lot of them were. My only guess is that it's because they brought back the level system from the original, so the developers likely had to have Joel do SOMETHING for each individual level the player upgrades.
Part II lacked the level system, meaning each upgrade was final, so the developers didn't have to resort to having Ellie repeat different animations each time.
The barrel change animation on the rifle made my OCD twitch. Barrels thread into the receiver.

I mean to be fair there is only so much you can do to have more capacity in a shotguns magazine that doesn't make it look ridiculous, that rusty pipe that looks like it's literally been found by dumpster diving and the magical rag of wiping blessed by Mr. Clean and the demigods of upgrading is the best they could've done.
I love how they transferred the gun making sequence from part 2 to part 1, it's so satisfying to watch because they actually gave thought on what tool to use realistically speaking
you will never use a file or a rag to increase mag capacity.
@@Gherkins You're absolutely right. However, we can't expect the game to be 100% in this instance. Going down the realistic route with what you mentioned would possibly take too long in-game. Gotta pick and choose battles.
Yea in part 1 the tools didn’t really make sense. You knew you getting something but with the remake they actually show the tool he grabs, and he uses that tool to upgrade the gun.
What I love about the upgrades ever since part 2 is the more upgrades on the gun, the more new they look.
i really like how some of the guns that Joel just finds lying around (like El Diablo and the flamethrower) look damaged and aged and as Joel upgrades them they begin to look more repaired and the guns like 9mm and the shotgun (guns that have been taken care of and maintained by himself and Bill) look well kept

@@V3LOTIV dude, some variations and the ability to craft holsters (which was already in TLOU 1 from PS4) doesn't justify it's "better" any way. 70$ just for a pretty re-skin of a remaster of a game from 2013 (less than 10 years). Just compare this with RE2 Remake. That's a real remake, this is just a petty cash grab justified by Neil Simpmann and his buddies as a "immersive experience, totally different from the original" just because the controller shakes when shooting. Just let that sink in. No new animations, no new combat mechanics, a pretty skin for 70$. They literally said this was a remake and not a remastered, and that it would be "build up from the ground". Well, they used the same animations from the original game. They didn't even attempt to justify the lack of dodge and crawl. If you are building a game from the ground, they could have added those mechanics, it's not that difficult. But even if they didn't, they could have just improved the originals by adding more realism to them. But no, Neil and his buddies are too busy spending the money you gave to them while they laugh at you all

I do love the realism of the upgrades, probably missing some but here they are. Magazine extension for the 9mm, baseplate for said mag, textured grip with finger grooves. Revolver swaps out the smooth cylinder (less metal, less weight, easier to swing open), and puts on a rubberized grip that's been textured with added grooves. Hunting revolver, new 3 shot cylinder, extended barrel for higher velocity, and a new textured/grooved synthetic grip. Shorty gets a new choke, extended magazine release, leather wrapping on the grip, and a mag extension. Hunting rifle has an extended mag release, new barrel with a custom muzzle break, straight pull bolt, scope, and finally an extended magazine. Shotgun has an added shell carrier on the side, extended barrel and tube for shells, added choke, swapped out the stock with a different grip, cheekrest, and a synthetic pump.

Yea but some were weird, like jamming a screw driver in the gun to increase fire rate and filing the magazine rate to reload faster, not to mention Joel replacing the entire stock of the shotgun with the exact same stock, but with grip tape on it.
@@Hunter-tw6xq Fire rate can be increased by adding or subtracting spring tension in certain areas. If the magazine well or magazine has any rust or burrs, the file can smooth out those defects, allowing for effortless reloading. The upgraded shotgun stock had rubber inserts, to absorb more recoil that travels through the stock while firing.
@@Mossy500A But he doesn’t add anything to the gun. I wish I could install springs by jamming a screwdriver into the bolt! Also, yes, removing burrs is an excellent way to increase reload speed, except he doesn’t do it in the internals of the gun, like in the hunting rifle, where it looked like he just filed the stock where the mag well is. Also, he does put a butt-pad on it, but he could have done it with the same stock, and not junk it all together.

Now for those wondering about the Assault rifle, in this game its the final weapon you get which is why it doesn't appear

Joel able to take out a small army using rusty guns, a brick, and makeshift DIY hardware tools that break after 3 swings and a stab.
Imagine what he could do with /actual/ , well maintained melee weapons, brass knuckle/SOP gloves, and some modern, modified firearms.
It’s kinda stupid how the first capacity upgrade for the shotgun is actually extending the tube, and then the rest are just wiping down the bottom of the gun.

If theres one thing that could improve the animations on this its that any time you added a new part to your gun there was a small short addition where they go "Hold on whats this?" and look in a random spot of the tool bench and "find" the new part. especially like magazine upgrades, instead of taking a screw driver to the old one just finding a new magazine that fits it
Yea I'd love if that would sync up with the tool boxes you need to upgrade your stuff, the more you need the farther you're into the game and you would just like "casually" find a new part in the work bench, rather than just getting new parts from nowhere

was actually a Colt Defender man, pretty much a compact 1911 though
its the same asset/model from Uncharted 2 (.45 defender) with different textures.

But in all honest, I'm not harping on the animations. I live that they put some love into the weapon upgrade process with these beautifully done animations.
Still angry that we don't have The Last of Us on PC but what can you do?

When the game was getting close to be released, i was excited to see the weapons upgrades and see how they all turn out and i gotta say that i love it.
Love how for one of the capacity upgrades on the shotgun Joel polishes the gun and that makes it have more space, a happy gun allows you to have more ammo I guess

I do appreciate that even in the zombie apocalypse Joel still follows proper gun safety and unloads the weapons before working on them. Even in a situation where most people would rather be dead he still makes effort to preserve his own safety

@@Indigo_1001 no. If you wanted to upgrade your weapons in RDR2, you go to a gunsmith and they upgrade it for you. Cleaning only serves for stats to not go down. Even if RDR2 didn't had animations for it's upgrades, it's much better than the garbage Naughty Dog is trying to sell us for 70$. I mean, you pay 70 dollars and don't even get a realistic or long animation? Companies are becoming more and more greedy this days

TLOU Part 1 Remake is basically for those people who just wants to experience the new engine, graphics & animations without having to play TLOU Part 2.
Not just that, but I’d also like to think it’s a testing ground for Naughty Dog to become familiarized with the PS5 architecture. What we’re seeing here may be how their next game might look to be, if not better.

Technically yes, that release may have also assisted Naughty Dog with maximizing the fidelity of visuals for Uncharted 4. Of course though, ND has the release/track record equivalent of Atlus with mainline Persona games- They are seldom announced and take a boatload of time to develop (Sometimes with multiple delays), but when they do get released they are very solid and polished titles with massive amounts of replayability.

I love that wiping down the guns gives them bullet peircing or extra capacity because they can only do so much cosmetic upgrades XD

The sound effects in this game are incredible! Great job highlighting them in your gameplay. They really add to the immersive experience of the game

I love it when upgrades are done like this. Only thing missing is real time suppressor and sight application.
Though I prefer that in part 2, you are told what's being upgraded with a description. Here, you have to just hope you notice a difference visually.
Part of me appreciates that a lot of these upgrades take the form of basic maintenance, civilization has collapsed and if you do find guns they’re going to need some elbow grease to work like they should.
What I love more than the fact that cleaning a gun would give you more ammo is that all workbenches have all the parts necessary for the gun you're working on, thank god for shared inventory in these workbenches

I just love how some of the animations are super involved and in-depth, and some are just a simple wipe-down or tightening a screw to improve the firepower.
It's funny how inconsistent the way you upgrade the weapon's look, from adding a new barrel and grip to just wiping, cleaning and filing only to just add 1 ammo capacity
I like how on the first weapon he upgrades the magazine more than the gun itself

I like how Joel sometimes makes a big change to the weapon that can change the look and style of the weapon. or sometimes gives it a nice clean scrub or file to upgrade it.
For the most part some of these animations are throw away for sure. But maintaining a gun could without a doubt help with its performance. Simple cleaning could result to reload and fire speed if it was causing backup, sadly sometimes a plied pull adds ammo to a mag
