- Every sails adds speed. I want a fast fast raft, therefore I need more sails. Luckily I can expand my raft to add as many sails as I want. The only thing I have to sacrifice is time and I have way too much of that on my hands. Clearly. I manage to find faster and easier ways to accomplish this goal over time. By the end I'm placing sails so fast that it hurts the game. Over 3000 sails were places this day. My raft is faster than yours. Raft gameplay with my commentary as always!

It wasn't even that fast of a raft, and it was running fine till he opened/closed the sails

I can't stop thinking how funny would be if this were an easter egg in the game. Just you, your raft and the ocean and then from out of nowhere you just see an unholy amount of sails speeding up in the distant.

From what I can observe, DangerousFunny do things chaotically with some help of command but Let's Game It Out do it out of pure blood and sweat. Josh literally took countless of hours and suffer endlessly just to feel few seconds of satisfaction. My personal favorite is Let's Game It Out because he seems way more legit

@@darrenaqilawangsech8652 Seems like a good idea. Also what they did with making diminishing returns on each sail is also pretty good, but I feel like a speed cap when you reach an unbelieveable speed is better.
I think that the reason your speed was so low is that the sails are getting in the way of eachother, most of them aren't really doing anything.
In real physics: yeah. But I kinda doubt the game physics take that all to much into account.
Probably lag from all the sails.

This definitely feels like the way the speed is calculated is logarithmic in some way, (double for a 3 unit increase is coincidentally similar to dB)
I do not game anymore, I do not watch content related to gaming and I didn't play Raft. Yet 2 minutes into your video and I like how you make the content. You're awesome and this is just the first time I think I watch one of your videos. Absolutely brilliant the way you're creating content!
I like the niche you've carved out for yourself DF. You started with instructional tutorials on stardew valley, then became "what are the limits of stardew valley" then became a sandbox player that just tests limits on stuff while having fun. Not to mention no one has a voice like yours

I have a lot of depression related issues and other mental shtuff. Nothing makes me happier after my bad days than hearing DF's voice sparking with amusement or sarcasm when breaking games. I too love the potato test.

My bet on, why the game didn't struggle with all those sails is...
The game doesn't have to handle each sail as something generating speed, but the game probably keep a counter of how many sails you have, the speed is probably a logarithmic equation, that's why it has those "weird" numbers.
The reason why the game struggled when opening the sails, was because it had to go each one of them, setting them as open, while doing the other things in game.
Sails generate speed based on their rotation and the direction of the wind - so it might as well have struggled because it had to generate a "speed" matrix, which took in those values to then easily compare it to the wind-direction, allowing easy stearing.
Also I guess calculating 3k sails opening/closig isn't the easiest thing for graphics to do.
@@Shuizid I don't play raft, but you can rotate 90º - 180º - 270º right? If yes, this can be optimized keeping the amount of sails pointing to each of the 4 possible sides.
