    Interesting timing! I was just looking at SNK and got to the criminally overlooked World Heroes 2 Jet and Perfect. They are fun and interesting and I really hope can you address them too somewhere. SNK had a strong hand in them, but there's a lot more to say and tell.

    Very informative video as usual. Still producing the best video game content, you go Top Hat Gaming Man!
    Frankly, I didn't spend much time with this game. It's pretty good as summarized in the video, but my local arcade replaced it with Fatal Fury Special pretty quickly and so did I, with the Sega CD version of Special! Now THAT is an awesome Fatal Fury! This game is really important in that I believe it's the first title to have a Desperation move mechanic though!

    "It doesn't get anymore Street Fighter than that."
    I know I'm likely not the first to point this out, but apparently it does; you neglected to point out how both have a returning boss, a boxer boss, a boss from Spain, and some sort of "underworld overlord" boss.

    Fond memory of mom leaving me in the arcades at one of Lake Tahoe's casinos. Had this game on the Big Screen. Played it for hrs & sunk a lot of quarters to get to Krauser & beat it.
    Loved the cinematics in this game & how they made him a "mystery." Kept me intrigued to keep going & sink quarters into it.
    Such a great design for a final boss.

I always enjoyed Fatal Fury, but I LOOOOOVE me some REAL BOUT Fatal Fury 2; the point where the series reached the pinnacle of it's evolution. Can’t wait to see you do that “special” review of the upgraded version. FF Special is one of my favorite old school fighting games of all time.
    One thing you forgot to mention is that the Genesis version actually played even BETTER than the arcade version, it was faster and combos were smoother to pull off.

    This is still one of my favorite games of all time! I actually bought a Neo Geo home system specifically for Fatal Fury 2. I remember seeing the pictures in the game mags of the day (especially Die Hard Game Fan, who had a beautiful write-up of it), and I knew I had to have it. I had been pondering getting the Neo Geo system for a while at that point, and Fatal Fury 2's release pushed me over the edge. Ordered that and the original Art of Fighting (which had come out a few months before), and had a blast playing them that summer! Good times...

    I love SNK fighters, especially the KOF series. I was heavy on Capcom fighters for a long time until the late 90s. I always thought that the characters had this cool anime feel to them compared to the generic feel of the SF characters. The only other Capcom fighters that I'm still a fan of to this day is the Rival Schools and Darkstalkers games (which they REALLY need to bring back).

    I had no idea that the original SF creator went on to do all these other fighters of his own.. It’s an interesting story.. I guess it’s a matter of personal preference which you feel is the best one.. One of my earliest and fondest memories was running into the Karate Champ arcade cabinet as a child and for whatever reason it was free that night.. My parents literally had to drag me away from it! I’d say this is the title that deserves all the accolades for the fighting game genre..

    The systems developed in FF2 were later copied and became conventions by many, many other fighting games. This game was perhaps a bit too technical and intimidating for a lot of casual fighting games....something that SNK is well known for. Consider that many die hard fighting game fans think that SF3 is the pinnacle of the series...due to how technical it is. Casual players hated it. I like to think that Fatal Fury 2 and it's follow ups were the trailblazers for Street Fighter and others to emulate.

I don’t know if it was because I got FF2 by mistake and I wasn’t expecting much of the game (Neo Geo machines were extremely rare in my country). However, when I saw FF Special for the first time in arcades, I was amazed. It left an impression on me that has never been matched by any SF game (And Garou Mark of the Wolves is a better game than any modern version of SF) Heck, I bought a Switch and that Mario pseudo-fighting game just because of Terry Bogard.

    fatal fury 2 was a flashier looking game compared to vanilla sf2, but the combo system was kind of janky. it seemed like most fatal fury characters only had 1 functioning 3-hit combo. there certainly weren't any characters like the shotos on sf2 who could end a combo with any of their 3 special attacks. fatal fury 2 on the 16-bit consoles seemed to play better, though.

    • @alexojideagu
      @alexojideagu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Combo system has always been terrible in Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting and King of Fighters series. They are fun yes but they are stiff as rocks when it comes to putting moves together. They don't link well.

      I could pull a 4 hit combo with special attack even 5 hit with some characters its all about timing i was the only person on my block that play it hardcore yeah it had issues like most vanilla verisons of fighting games.but the owner let me play for free since nobody played it much so yeah i got real good at it.

    • @nightwalker1973
      @nightwalker1973 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don´t know, though. But for me, Axel Hawk resembles more of Eric Esch (a.k.a. Butterbean). He didn´t have skill but his power punches made him a legend in boxing history. And check Axel´s physics, it´s more likely to Esch. I´m not sure that i can say that Axel is a "parody" of George Foreman. What do you think?

    In the 90's, for sure SNK was a far better than Capcom in making fighting games: more charismatics characters, more beautiful stages, and better fighting system... I'm happy to see SNK back again since the good KOF XIV and the excellent Samurai Shodown! Can't wait to see the first images of KOF XV!

      This is factually incorrect. If everything you said was true then SNK should be selling millions off their titles while Capcom's left in the dust. Capcom > SNK even when they're currently incompetent fools.

    Would have liked a deeper dive in to the GameBoy version of Fatal Fury 2. It's a great version of the game, with cute little Super Deformed versions of the fighters and speech bubbles in place of the sampled voices. All moves are present including the desperation moves. Also extra Super GameBoy features, borders and 2 player controller support. One of my favourites.

    What can I say, I loved both Street Fighter and Fatal Fury back in the day, to the extent I played all games, and watched all animes. To this day, still enjoy both, tho at this point it's King of Fighters instead of Fatal Fury, but yah. Both series are full of iconic characters, great gameplay, and hopefully will never die. Now Capcom just needs to stop being greedy.

    I have the mega drive version and my only regret is not waiting for the inevitable Special port.They actually made it easier than the arcade version. The gameplay is similar barring a couple of moves (Kim's DM works like the KOF one where if it's blocked he goes into it for a couple of kicks). The music is definitely inferior tho, like Big Bear's OST becoming this relaxed western rather than the rock tune it was.
