On my 114 M8, with the mini teardrop, I get oil drips from the breathers, with the original size teardrop there are no oil drips. I reakon with the mini teardrop element being exposed, the air inside the filter gets tossed around a fair bit, pulling the oil with it. With the classic full-size teardrop, the air is pulled from the rear near the heads. From the rear, the air is fed into the throttle body more smoothly, taking the oil mist with it instead of being tossed around all over the place. I have switched between the mini and classic on many rides and situations, and the classic is always clean inside, where the mini always has lots of oil inside. In case anyone is interested, there's no difference in performance between the two.
Looks good, matte or satin finish instead off high gloss maybe? But now when you’re screaming along at high rpm have to be careful your leg doesn’t cover the centre inlet, you’ll suddenly have less air going in 😳

I'm sure it's a great air breather. However the design is just too old school for me. I needed something more modern. Got a Rough Crafts Finned Air Cleaner. Well and a tuner at this point.

The S&S Stealth Teardrop looks good. I recommend check out the S&S Slip-on mufflers. They sound good and look excellent; also no retuning required on the 117 Cu. In. FXLRST/FXLRS. They will not void your warranty. They'll look good with the S&S Air Cleaner too. I also recommend replacing the OE plastic transmission top cover with the metal Trask M8 Checkvent, to properly ventilate the crankcase. Tom M., SouthBay, So. Cal. '21 RGS and '22 FXLRS
Hi Sandy To be honest the original heavy breather looks nicer!! (My opinion) when riding maybe the one you installed feels a lot better. Looks definitely the original that came with the bike.
I found them forsale in Australia.. over $600 for the same one for the twin cam.. I love the look of the small tear drop air cleaner, and need change out my screaming eagle over air cleaner that I don’t like anymore.

Same thing for me. I liked the stock one and performance wise I think it would have been good enough but it got in the way for me to use my bungking crashbar comfortably as a highway bar. Switched to a dk customs 606 with transformer external vent plate so I won’t be getting oil into my intake as well.

Remember with these S&S back plates, always use thread lock on those 3 bolts. They can shake loose and it only takes one to get sucked into your engine and it’s disaster! I’ve seen it. Just a tip
How is it running now with the S&S air cleaner? A guy, who knows much more than I do, tells me that the bike needs a tuner, after a new air cleaner is added. He said the bike should run ok for a few thousand miles, but then you can have issues. I've never heard this before, but as I said, he knows much more about Harleys than I do.
Stock 117 air cleaner is a high flow air intake - and so is my new one. The amount of air they both let in is not very different. It shouldn’t be a big difference. Harley stock tune allows a 10% variance of Air/fuel ratio . So it’s well within the limits
I bought my New low rider ST yesterday in white sand pearl. Have to change also the mid controls to forward controls and I bought also the S&S black teardrop air filter . I guess HD put the stealth on because many people have to change , so business goes on. They don't have extension for the forward controls , I could use them to , the floorboards on your bike looks great to move your legs while driving . Great video .Greetings from Belgium.

Sandy did you manage to measure distance sticking out? I believe stock breather is 7" hoping this is only 4.." Also why didn't vent externally rather then sending blow by back into cleaner? Maybe Mike can answer this my understanding blow by is a problem on M8 motor.
Just a thought, but without the OEM breather, do you thing the black forward control would work...specifically the rear brake pedal, without having to use the powder-coated chrome one you used?
Also from a previous conversation we've had you said you're new to harley, see if you can get yourself a service manual for your bike it may cost a bit but you'll be able to work on basically everything and they'll have torque specs for everything!

I hate that I can’t use the front crash bar for highway pegs because the air cleaner sticks out so far. This would fix that for me

Do you need to tune the bike with the new filter& did you notice Morrison performance with it on stock bike?
Had you left the mid controls, you wouldn't have that issue with the elbow intake hitting your leg!
