      AMG GTS is deceptively quick wow. The Audi R8 has 100 more hp and it's mid-engined but it's only 1 second quicker. For some reason I wanted the NSX to be quicker after all that "hybrid true torque vectoring" hype crap. I was expecting it to be GTR quick. 570S is a great car. Camaro is amazing but damn it looks like shit dude. Horrible looking car. I'm looking forward to the Porsche Carrera S.

    Some manufacturers tend to rely on more aggressive tire (which means designed mostly for track use) to get a decent lap time. There are at least 5-6 tiers among the road legal summer tire (=excluding the non road legal tire and winter tire) and each tier has at least 1-2 second advantage compare to the next best tier. You can see they're not using the same tier tire. For example, tirerack has been classified those tires like this.
    PSC 2 - Streetable Track & Competition
    PZC - Streetable Track & Competition (However, PZC is not the fastest "Streetable Track & Competition" tire of Pirelli)
    Eagle F1 Supercar G - Extreme Performance Summer
    PSS - Max Performance Summer
    CSC 5P - Max Performance Summer
    Remind that even if they're in the same tier, 1-2 second difference between the brand & model is quite common especially if some tire is at the end of product life cycle and the other tire is relatively new tire. So it's possible that PSC 2 equipped car could shave off 1-2 second than the car with older tires and could shave off more than 5 second than regular summer UHPs.
    Furthermore, some manufacturer are willing to take one step further, using manufacturer-specific tires. Even if sidewall shows same brand and model and size, they are not always the same because there are manufacturer-specific tires. Some auto manufacturer order their specific tires with common model designation on it and they are quite different to regular one. Worst offenders are using basically same technique which is sacrifice consistency over max grip so that they can do very fast lap for a few times and then getting slower than normal one. This is very good for marketing purpose obviously because people only care about lap time and you can get a faster lap time within the timeframe that manufacturer-specific tires could give you edge over normal one.
    HINT : A CAR MADE BY ONE OF THE WORST OFFENDER IS ON THE LIST.

      No way this NSX had continental tires. Optional tires on this car are Pilot Sport Cup 2s. I'm sure they had them on. EDIT: I see form the video that it had Pirellis. The only Pirellis with 305/30 rates ZR20 are P Zeros.

      I think he's talking about the Camaro and GM. Now if he's suggest the that F1's are nearly as good PSC2's even for a few laps he's a fucking idiot talking out of his ass.
      Nearly every manufacture today making hi performance cars works the tire OEM to make a tire optimized for their cars it's been that way for decades now. The difference is now it's trickling down more affordable models.

      +VirusTornado No. Pirelli got a bunch of 305/30 ZR20 summer tires (P Zero Nero GT, P Zero PZ4, P Zero Corsa, P Zero Trofeo R. slowest to fastest) and judging by the tread pattern shown in 0:16 and 0:59, it is P Zero Trofeo R which is same tier tire as PSC 2.

I'm just saying there are manufacturers which habitually putting a near track tire (or manufacturer specific tuned version of it) as a standard equipment or as a part of trims or packages.
      +GlassTopRX7 Have you seen the C6 Z06 with Z07 package or C7 Z06 with Z07 package? Their optional PSC ZP/PSC2 ZP tires are not even close to the regular PSC ZP/PSC2 ZP. Chevrolet is not the only one using their own version of PSC2 ZP but their version is on the most extreme edge. It looks like regular PSC ZP + 50mm slick tire.

      Try finding a gt350r for anywhere near sticker, actually try even finding it for double sticker you'll still have a hard time

      Good luck with the GT350R, you can find 350s for about 5k-10k over MSRP (in my area) but definitely not the R. :(((

      +dale walker It got the mark ups because the GT350 is more special. Better engine, better interior, and because of the Shelby badge it will hold its value throughout the years better meaning its a better car.

    People are glorifying the old NSX too much,yet they don't realise that the old wasn't breaking records here and there nor it had a faster acceleration or top speed than the rest,but the build quality,amenities and tech made the competition look like trash.Now the NSX here is the only one with hybrid tech which sadly will be the future of sport/supercars before electricity takes over.The only problem here is the price and the weight,hope they release the Type R

    This is an awesome machine. Remember this is an all new car. It took a while but not bad for a first off the drawing board. The GTR has been refined over the last 7 years and this beat it. 👍Go Honda Also look at the competition here lots of cars that have also been refine for years and Honda beats or comes so close. Image what the gen 2 of this will be like. Honda are back!

      Dude, are you suggesting that a brand new super car doing 1 second faster than a 7-year-older rival (actually, 9, R35 was debuted in 07) on Laguna is something Honda should be proud of? Not to mention it cost almost twice as much as R35 did? BTW, 2014 R35 track edition did 1:36.63, that one was even cheaper.
      So I'm sorry but no, I can't agree with you on this, Honda, or say Acura, since this NSX was developed in USA not Japan, should be ashamed that they built a car with more power, more technology, less weight, better weight distribution, less seats, smaller trunk, higher price than R35's, that can only be less than 1sec faster on Laguna. Seriously, this NSX, compared with either R35 or old NSX, is a major disappointment, considering everything this car had, it should have done way way better.
      Oh, and, as I said, Acura built the new NSX in USA, so Honda ain't that much back yet.

    All other cars have years of working development, this is the first working model and it did so well... It will only get better, for real comparison should be a type R version or other cars normal versions to be fair... Nsx is awesome.

      In the end, Honda pulls the strings and holds the cards. I personally do not see this as a GT car. Its mid engine and is more a Sports car in MY mind. Your mileage may vary.

      Honda didn't pull any strings. The new NSX was completely designed by Acura USA, and it's even built in the USA. Almost nothing about it is Japanese. That's why it's so *shit*. The old NSX was a Japanese car. It had 276hp, so they had to make sure it handled amazing and was lightweight. So it did. With this car they didn't have any sort of fucking plan. They handed the project to the Acura USA, who absolutely fucked up the car. How do you explain getting rid of a mid-engined V10 supercar and ending up with a V6 hybrid sports car that also costs 200k? Yet it's still a Honda, and it's actually slower than expected. I was expecting them to make a GTR-beating machine. smh.

      Private Idaho Ya, 3 electric motors and a ton of batteries for the hybrid feature. It would be a ton faster and I would think more fun to drive if there wasn't 700 pounds of unneeded weight.

    That silver piece on the nose above the grill should be carbon or painted body colour, and it should also have Honda badges. Besides that, the exterior of this car is a thing of beauty.

    Sad, all they needed was a v6, non hybrid, and it would have kept the price way down and stayed more true to the heritage of the original. I would also like to have stayed somewhat near the original design as well. They might be trying to change the world here but I think they missed here big time. I don't know how well it is selling but I am not holding high hopes for this car.

      Pennywise is about the same weight as the GT-R. Most super/ sports cars will have some type of electric motor system 10 years from now.

      I agree completely. The hybrid system adds too much weight for only 73hp, and it also kills the steering feel...something the original NSX had in abundance.

    Mclaren 570s is the same price and two second faster on this track. Mercedes GT S AMG is $50k cheaper and more than 1 second faster (huge in racing term). Acura just created a garbage, and did nothing to change people's perception of the brand.

      Yeah the new MX-5 is only 2300lbs...
      I wont believe there will be a new RX cars until it's released. The recent leak appears to be pure speculation now. There is no reliable performance information on the X16 rotary. What is clear is Mazda is actively working on rotary concept designs but they been doing that for years.

    They should havr put better electric motors in. 74hp for the weight of the batteries and motors is pathetic. It would have been faster without all that shit.

      They have a v10that was production ready for the awd front mounted v10 NSX.
      They could've just updated the shit out that engine stuck it in the back and made a new awd system it would've been a lot lighter and they could've spent more money on carbon fiber
      But I do understand why they went this was since all sports cars will be going the electric motor hybrid way. Might as well start early so they have more experience down the line. Right now the only car with the same set up is the Porsche 918, but the 918 only has one electric motor in the front

      Zero Cool Lafarrari and p1 have one electric motor in the back and they're rwd. The NSX has that too but it also has 2 electric motors in the front that toque vector. Unlike the 918 which does not since it only has one electric motor

      thats exactly what honda is doing.. same thing thing they did with vtec. yeah some companies had variable valve timing.. but they made it a staple of their brand, also power steering, abs, and other cool things you can only find in a handful of 90s cars.. the next ten years hybrid/ elec will be the wave, and honda will have ten year head start on the competition.. they hybrid tech is already in the rlx and is in the new mdx.. they know what they are doing.. also the car did awesome about 6th overall on the track and 4th in the drag race.. honda is fine!

    NSX with optional Trofeo R super slick racing tires does a 1:36. Without the slick tires on sport performance tires, it would be at best 1:39. The Trofeo R are the most stickiest and hardcore track tires one can buy. Motor Trend said, they are barely street legal.

    And people used to complain the GT-R has too much computers & technology onboard. Yet they still have the BALLS to name it after arguably one of the BEST ANALOGUE mid-engine sports car ever created.
    Surprisingly bad lap time given its power & supposed performance values. The fact the more analogue Mustang GT350R beat this is a testament to that.

    Honda should go back to their roots…instead of all this tech why not back to old school…a screaming NA V6…6 speed manual and rear wheel drive…this is what made the last gen so good

      and then it would get beaten around the track. the nsx wasn't a revelation because it was crazy fast, but because it offered most of the performance of the italians and germans but it was reliable and you could drive it every day and had crazy tech in it.
      this car give yo most of the performance of the germans and italians (and americans to be fair, but given that this IS an american car anyway its a moot point), and it will be ultra reliable as well, despite being so complex. not to mention resale, and the fact that you can daily drive it and not look like an asshole.

    Hopefully they re-test with a 2019 or better since it has retuned suspension that made it 2 seconds faster at Suzuka. Throw in some Cup2 and I’m sure the cars is low 1:34’s

    Guys is just 2 generation ....ìs just fresh product ....this car need more time to re fine this chassis . 1.36 is not bad look smooth and very especial I understand this NSX is complete deferent vs the perfect one at 90s but this car is high tech and this tech is the future and remember is running with cars triple he's age in refinement

      To be fair, the NSX has the same lap time as the Nissan GTR Black Edition from the 2012 BDCC. So the NSX isn't slow by any measure, but rather the Mustang is just really freaking fast.

      Marshall Knutson yeah but that 2012 GTR is just a refresh of a car that was launched in 2007. And that's a front engined car car with a ICE engine driving 4 wheels.
      This a low slung mid engine sports car, with a twin turbo V6 + 3 electric motors.
      The reviews of this NSX told us that the driving experience is "meh"... at least it could be really fast, wich it isn't (for this kind of car of course)
      So, what's really the selling poinf of this car? fuel economy?

      Marshall Knutson 2012 was 4 years ago dude. FOUR YEARS. That's a generation of cars. In that time, a new Mustang and Camaro came out, a new R8 came out, 4 new McLarens came out, 4 new Ferraris came out, TWO new 911 generations came out (along with FOURTEEN VARIANTS; Carrera, Carrera S, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Carrera GTS, Carrera 4 GTS, Targa 4, Targa 4S, Targa 4 GTS, GT3, GT3RS, Carrera Turbo, Carrera Turbo S, and 911 R. Yet Acura can't make a 200k supercar any quicker than 2012 GTR. It costs twice as much as a GTR dude. Cmon.

    Randy should rerun the track. He has never driven this type of system. He figured it out later on the track. It is a fun new way of handling characteristics

    Chris Harris on top gear literally called it a pioneering supercar and compared it favorably to the 918. He loved the NSX. And better lap time than 458 and GTR among others. Video review is here : streamable.com/huw3

      Yeah, with over 40 more HP, 2 more gears, 4 lb less weight, better weight distribution, 2 less seats, a smaller trunk, twice the price and everything, MY2017 NSX managed to go 0.2 sec faster than MY2011 GT-R on TG track, what an achievement! 🙄

    that extra weight for only 74hp more isnt worth it, they could probably push that from the engine.

      My thought as well. On the 918, Porsche could afford to use expensive carbon fiber everywhere to help offset the weight of the batteries, and it was still the heaviest of the holy trinity. But on the more pedestrian Acura? The weight gets zerio chance to be offset. I'm sure its great to drive, but I want some tuner to rip out all the batteries and motors and then see what it will do (though that would obviously be quite difficult).

      I think they made it hybrid more to reduce turbo lag than to add power. But I must say, I much prefer the old nsx then the new one. But as a gt car, this nsx would be ideal. And that interior is gorgeous.

      Diarmuid Marsden I think it is being marketed as a GT car, but we wanted a sports car. There are other strategies to reduce turbo lag other than adding electric motors and weight, which induces a lag in and of itself. And turbo lag hasn't scared people away from the new 911 or the 488. The interior is fantastic, totally agree.

      computiNATEor I know, there are better ways, variable twin scrolling turbos come to mind. And I for one don't mind turbo lag. However the nsx has always been a showcase of new technology and an example of what honda is capable of. After all, the x stands for experimental ;). The more manufacturers that start to experiment with hybrid technology, the lighter an more efficient the technology will become. Though it mightn't be the most practical way of getting rid of turbo lag now, thanks to the efforts of honda and mclaren (or anyone else experimenting with hybrid technology), in the future it will be. That said if I had the money, I'd own both the new one and the old one, both for completely different reasons. Honda has always been one of my favourite manufacturers, and this is why. They are never afraid to experiment in pursuit of ingenious solutions.

    It's on the continental's not the optional michelin's - difference between those two tires is massive so I expect it would be a reasonable amount faster if on it's optional tyre. Not as fast as I had hoped it would be though. Really looked like Randy was struggling for grip.

    At first, that lap time seemed disappointingly slow. But after checking through the previous BDCC lap times, it's actually on par with the Nissan GTR (the '12 Black Edition set a 1:36.3). It goes to show that everyone else ultimately caught up to and surpassed the GTR, while Acura is only on par with Godzilla. Not a slow car by any means, but the hybrid system really isn't yielding any worthwhile performance advantages.

      This car came too early at an enormous cost, sadly. Despite them trying to perfect this car for a long period(5-6) years, the car is simply not "polished" enough in terms of perfomance, you can see.

    So, what we have here is a car that basically made the lap timers bleed, was beaten only by truly extraordinary cars, some of them track-cars, it will surely outlast every single one of all the others on this test, it brought technology of 1m cars down to the 200k segment and from an engineering point of view is an absolute wet dream.
    On the other hand, we have people commenting and dissing on Honda and making judgements on things they have no idea about, on a car they will never get to sit in, let alone drive, and saying "is too slow". Right....
    I absolutely love every single one of the competing cars but that Mustang really gets the applause. Tip my hat to the Americans on that one.

    NSX original tail/rear-end is one of kind #epic design Acura can call their own. Great missed opportunity I think to redesign that awesome rear-end onto this new model and be the stand NSX car as like iconic perfect profile the orginal model started with. Shame cus theres on rear-end since and still that is that #epic in design.

      damefaso The GT3 version of this car is the true successor the NSX. As I have said, RWD, no unnecessary batteries, and if a sequential shift transmission counts as a manual, than it is also a manual as well.

    My bet of drivers car of the year, being MotorTrend, goes to either the Shelby, Viper or Vantage. Albeit I think the McLaren is the winner here, in my personal opinion. But they're all epic, I have a really special love for that Camaro and especially the NSX: Epic cars, all of them!

    Serious question, not a complaint: Why was the 911 R not included in the Driver's Car competition? Was it not available during that time? Is the car too exclusive? I know it would've been in with a real shot of winning. In fact, I would've bet on it. Yes, the 911 wins a lot of the time, which is annoying, but the car really is just that good.

    I am considering this car or the Audi v10 plus. Loving the NSX but the additional weight is a drag on track and top speed timing. The Audi v10 plus is well worth the cost and also is a tad faster than the sister Italian Huracan Lp 610. However the hybrid system is impressive in the NSX and the styling is just fantastic and looks better than most of her competitors

    Completely unacceptable that the new NSX got beaten by both the GT350R and the AMG GTS (both of which are less expensive, less complex, are RWD, and one is a manual).
    Unlike that other Japanese supercar named for a kaiju which beat just about everything above its price class when it was introduced, the NSX is a grand overpriced over-complicated disappointment that doesn't come close to the Europeans. This car proves that Honda has lost its way and they no longer knows how to make sports cars.

      what the Japanese mean by "supercar" is any car that would be faster than Camry and Prius.
      This new Acura is so overpriced and so under perform.

      That other Japanese car is the reason they delayed this car so many times. It's been going on for like 10 years now. They just couldn't start producing a car that was more expensive than the GT-R and performed worse. It's a matter of honor or something.

      Actually, I just remembered that the LF-A was so massively overpriced because Toyota included building the world's most advanced carbon fiber factory in the production costs. Kind of a scam to the customers if you ask me. That factory is going to earn all its worth back on its own and then some.
      And Toyota had the audacity to claim the LF-A wasn't profitable.

    Wow I'm happily surprised with the NSX here some reviewers touched on the oversteer but I guess didn't push it hard enough to reveal just how tail happy it was. The original NSX wasn't all about oversteer but it's the only thing they could tune into the suspension setup of this, nearly, 3900lb car (which I still think is insane) that could bring it closer in character to it's "spiritual predecessor". I thought this was purely a GT car based on the previous review I'd watched but I have a bit more respect for it now.

    So not only is it ugly as sin, but it's WAY slower than it should be. Instead of being an impressive halo car, it's the slowest hybrid supercar on the market, and is even slower than a car that costs 1/3rd the price and a no-gimmicks supercar that doesn't bother with the hybrid shit. The new NSX: powered by Senna spinning in his grave.

      no it is just because of the 2 tones of battery. the suspension and the way it puts the energy into the road is way better. imagine what it could be if it wasn't a hybrid

      It's not worth it, because the electric engines powering the front wheels are weak, not helping that much to launch it out of a corner. The car still oversteers under throttle.

      why is that disappointing? ford is doing work and its ultra impressive! however, i don't think nsx fans need to fret....that mustang is useless in the snow, doesn't look as good (imo) and isn't as multifaceted a vehicle.....which are nsx hallmarks. the 'everyday' supercar if you will.

    Joey choose the aston martin vantage v12 as the best sports car among all of these,
    although its the slowest. Sports cars are not about fast lap times, they're about the joy of driving, and that laughter from randy at the first turn just confirm that for me

      they did have the V10 concept, but that was shelved due to financial problems and put into racing, (Honda HSV in Japans supercar series), they should've kept the V10 concept.

      The point of sports car is not fast, isn't race car. It doesn't matter to be 0.something slower when shifting. But the fun of driving a manual does matter.

    I really wanted to love this car. I readily did. But they ruined it! 3800 pound! 157,000 dollars starting price. Over complicated. The original NSX was legendary because of the simplicity. This is the exact opposite of that. I, sorry but I'll be rooting for the GT350R this year. What Acura needs to do is have either given it more power or made it lighter by removing the stupid hybrid system and put in the v10 like they originally planned.

    When your $200,000 mid engine hybrid super car gets beat by a freaking NA mustang it is time to go back to the drawing board. Sorry but the NSX just failed. The R8 is impressive but drop a NISMO GT-R in the mix and it runs scared from the cheaper car though you could make the case that the R8 has a MUCH nicer interior and is worth the extra $$$

      The Nismo GT-R did it in 1:35.51, the R8 did it in 1:34.23, over a second faster than your nismo.

      MV Agusta You are talking about the 2014 BDC, I watched that hotlap. Not a perfect lap, a little wide on a couple apexes. Last I checked it still holds the lap record for the Streets of Willow race track, not to mention $50,000 less money.

      Enigma Cipher with the same driver, under similar circumstances, it's slower. (same track, same driver, similar conditions). hell...look at the Viper ACR. it dominates the GTR at every track, and it's cheaper. GTR was groundbreaking back in 2008, but it's old news now. a 460 HP Corvette grand sport beat it by 2 seconds on VIR at the lightning lap 2016

      MV Agusta The ACR Viper is a very thinly disguised racecar, and the NISMO GT-R STILL beat it around the Nürburgring ring! Massive 355mm custom made rubber, crazy high downforce and it lost to a real street car with an AC, sound system, and navigation by nearly 4 seconds. Yes Timmy the GT-R is still a badass. I would list all the supercars that the GT-R beat around the ring but I would be typing all night, but it is a whos who of dream cars including the Enzo, 918 Spyder, LFA, Zonda F, ZR1, and the Lamborghini Aventador, many of whom even the plain non-Nismo version beat. You can trash talk it all you like but the GT-R is the most impressive car that I have ever personally driven.
      Never seen this lap where a Grand Sport beat a NISMO GT-R but I would love to see that do you have a link? Seems the Grand Sport does not even rate on the ring so I would chalk that up to bad driving or Chevy propaganda.

      Also, it was the old 2010 SRT-10 ACR Viper that the Nismo beat around the Nurburgring. This 2016 Viper ACR Ran a 7:01 Nurburgring lap time, over 7 seconds faster than the Nismo. 7 seconds! Nismo got destroyed.
