This is the first of multiple upcoming NC vids, as it's a BB I greatly enjoy playing. I end up going on a bit of a rant in this one, apologies about that, but playing this ship reminded me of just how great the BBs in this game could be, instead of this constant low-skill catering that WG does by introducing dumber and dumber BBs like the Conqueror.
Flamu The NC (aka The Show Boat) is by far my favorite ship in the game. Even though I have the Montana, Missouri and the Alabama in my port, the NC will always have a port slot in my line up.
I start to feel that nc is less tanky. Angled perfectly, rn bb shoot he at your nose, 14k+fire.You shoot at their broadside, 13k. NC is a good designed bb, but everyone else is just broken.
Therein lies the problem. RN BBs are actual, facerolling-keyboard retarded in design. Submerged citadel, lelHE, stupid fire chance, god-tier AA, cruiser concealment, RN cruiser heal at 9-10. British BBs are just fucked at this point.
The meta has completely gone to shit, every game you will at least find that one guy who only shoots HE in his non RN battleship. Its not even funny how retarded it is right now.
Typical power creep issue - ship was strong and balanced . Now it's starting to feel weak , EVEN if you play it correct. You were angling pre BB he spam ? You were playing well, now it's irrelevenat as you can't bounce of HE shells, can you ?
NC is definitely one of my favorite ships. Just like you said, it prepared me well for the Iowa and Montana. NC is where USN BBs really start to show their beauty with a strong AA, monster bow armor and very precise AP shots.
NC's definitely BB design done right, she's one of my favorites. I wish her secondaries were longer-range though... their 5-inch guns just like the ones on the same-teir DDs, they should have similar ranges.

Literally right after watching this video I became a killing machine in my NC. 6 ranked battles with all victories and very few richocets now that I know the best times to fire on enemies. They try and hit you but at an angle they do little to no damage. Thank you again for this helpful video.
One of the best BB commentaries I have heard to date. Excellent explanation of the strategy. EDIT: About the Z-52 kill, you got one normal pen which killed him while he was broadside then the shells landed. 5 overpens would not kill him.
Flamu, I remember this video coming out. At the time, I was an NC main and absolutely adored her. I'll never forget when WG did that weird think where they tried 'removing' overmatch from the game, then decided to add a vulnerable seam at the front of BB armour. I know they reverted it, but NC never quite felt the same since they did that. In the current meta, there's so many better choices at the tier for comp, yet I sincerely believe NC is still the most 'fun', from a purely BB gameplay perspective. I really miss 2017.
As of right now do March 8 2020, the NC is still a fine battleship. I'm a primarily German and Japanese bb player and have been for 5?? Years now and goddamn the nc is everything I use to fear fighting and more. She's still tanky and her guns are just fantastic.
NC is the ship that saved the game for me. Didn't find any ship offering me what I was looking, until I met her. Sure I play other lines aswell, but she's the one I can always play to change my mood for the better.
ha! This is the boat I play when I want to stop playing for the night. Its the only boat I find myself screaming out loud while playing. I just don't think I'm a BB player. Currently at 170k xp, and just about able to buy the IOWA, but I don't think BBs, or the America BBs are my cup of tea.
I feel like it's hypocritical to point at North Carolina for being the pinnacle of battleship gameplay in WoWS and simultaneously point at the Iowa and Montana citadel buffs for buffing braindead play considering NC has always had that low citadel to begin with.
Well said. If NorCal is the pinnacle then the Iowa and Montana can't be that far off. Yet he is constantly haranguing Wargaming for that change. The best part of this video is when he hit the citadel of a broadside Montana.
The citadel hit on the Monty was due to it splashing in the water - and penning the underwater citadel. Well tbh - out of all 3 ships... Iowa, Monty and NC - nc has the more vulnerable citadel out of them, after the buff. NCs citadel only goes a tiny bit above water line - while Monty and Iowa are completely underwater. Hence why it is a little more skill required.
It's nice to find someone with the exact same opinion as me. The NC is just a really well designed battleship for me...unlike ships such as Bismarck and Monarch, which have a much lower skill floor. For me, a battleship should be inherently difficult to play well, in my mind, rather than a lazy "I WIN!" button. Like you said, the NC rewards good play and punishes bad play, rather than other battleships which are far, far too forgiving.
I find her playstyle similar to Yamato, but with very fast reaction speed in exchange for an 18.1 incher (well yeah like a tier 8 yamato) I feel like NC can do what all other tier 8 BBs can do, which exceeded my expectations...

Just to remind ppl, NC has underwater citadel as well. The current montana an iowa armor model are exactly the same the one NC has. If montana and iowa give you broadsides, you can still do massive amount of damage to them. Some ppl have problem against montana. The reason is that Montana has much thicker armor compared to iowa and NC. So slight angling can reduce a lot of damage in that ship. A lot of ppl thought they were shooting at broadside montana but in reality if you look at the minimap, those montanas are usually angle at 20-30 degrees. The may look like broadside to you due to how long those ships are but they really are not.
The thing about it, is the only ones who can reliably hit the dropped US citadels, are US battleships. Everyone else has flatter shell arcs that don't have enough drop on them to penetrate the citadel unless you're near max range. That big US arc isn't just good for shooting over islands.
Yamato has high shell arc as well. I can lob my shell back at every Des Moines who try to shoot from behind island in the Yamato. Only German BBs have fast shell arcs.
Turtleback is fine, but the German Battleships should have low-range and be forced to close range to bring about their major advantage of amazing secondary DPM
The Amagi has turtleback armor. Though I think that it is a good example of BB turtleback, it has lower amounts of armor in trade for a better layout. And it allows the Amagi to travel at a higher speed and have better acceleration than the NC. But the Amagi is longer and thinner so it has a much larger turning circle.
To be honest I take back the turtle back part. There is isn’t anything they can do with that cuz that’s what they Actually had. Well they could make the citadels higher (like with the Montana Iowa and Missouri in hight) it would still be more affective sadly but not as affective, And with the British BBs they just need to make the citadel like Montana Iowa and Missouri because they don’t need to have a citadel Half as wide and below water.
I just unlocked the NC 2 weeks ago, and wow!! It's amazing!!! Even stock. The slog to get there was painful with all of the slow boats, but damn it was worth it. Thanks for all of your videos @Flamu. I really appreciate all the work you put in.
Thanks for the videos Flamu - definitely my 'go to' for captain skills etc. My best ships in terms of my performance are IJN & US BB's with Nagato, Colorado & New Mex being the stars as far as my playstyle go. However still not confident in the NC as reflected in my stats. 33 games, 51.52% win, 50k dmg, 1248 base XP so about average across the board acording to Warships Today stats. I think the matchmaking is the biggest challenge as the cruiser T9/T10 HE spam (Ibuki's, Des Moines etc) and big hits from Iowa's, Yamato's etc are a bit of a put off. I think the skill with both of the BB lines (probably not so much for the Amagi though I haven't got that far yet) is judging when to turn so not to get rammed or torped by something going head to head with you (Tirpitz etc) but avoiding the citadel hits. Definitely a skill!
I disagree about getting Fire Prevention and Basics of Survivability at the same time being overkill. With all of the HE-spamming RN BBs are high tier gameplay, being able to mitigate that in any way is invaluable. Especially in a BB, the tendency is for everything that isn't a IJN, USS, or KMS BB to spam HE at you. Not only do fewer fires get set, they don't last very long. I think on my Yamato fires only last 33 seconds, IIRC. Makes it a lot easier to ignore fires and not worry about getting burned to death.

North Carolina, Iowa, Montana and Alabama are all some of the most rounded ships in the game. They have great well rounded builds that aren't particularly weak in any aspect, but also aren't as strong snipers as the Japanese, nor as good at close range as the Germans. Just solid ships.
Just got done with the NC a day or two after World of Warships Birthday event. The only thing that really bugged me is that the dispersion seemed really bad a lot of the time. Would ended up aiming at the water line at a ship 10kts away and i would get shells just flying way over the ship.
I cant take it anymore! TWO Montanas were sailing boradside(!) infront of my 3 Yamato turrets and all i could do were one 20k pen volley and a few 8-10k ones !!!
now you know how the montana felt for the first year+ of the game.....yams use to delete montanas in 2 volleys..... and i live in montana, so even if the montana got buffed to be the most OP thing in any game ever.....i would just be happy lol
I know the pain . yamato is tier 9.5 now BB . Really even BB hating people must rage more on conquerors other BB than yammy. Basically what you are saying - I had one montana few minutes 9km from me standing broadside taking no damage at all or overpens/random pen - no citadel. Maybe its about 9km range , so it's hard to citadel. But yammy those days look like no damage ship.
The problem is WG is a lowest common denominator bunch of hacks when it comes to game design. The very things you said that makes the NC how all BBs should be in general (i.e. reward positional awareness, angling and choosing shots carefully) are the same things that make certain WG will move away from them more and more. Why is that? Put simply, 'skill' is a deterrent in a 'free to play' internet random pubbie game. The more skill is required, the more likely it is the average "I play for fun; please don't make me think" player will get frustrated and blame everything other than their inability to learn how the game works. WG knows this, so they increasingly dumb the game down to the point your average family pet can play, their reasoning being that will retain the impatient, ignorant 'casual' gamer and there are far more of those than those who view skill and learning an integral part to enjoying a game. In short, expect WG to send this game further down the stupidity whirlpool, just as they did with WoT years ago.
So what you're saying is wargaming is making the game fun for the majority of the player base and more accessible to new players instead of pandering to a tiny minority of highly skilled elitist players who think a video game should be a chore before it is finally fun only after many hours of practice. Seems like the right call to me if you don't want the game to die a slow death from a dwindling player base.
I had a blast in the NC, but recently got the Iowa and I'm finding that it's dispersion is much more RNG and frustrating. The AA is redunkulous though.
I got my Alabama (on sale) before i got the NC.. And i learnt from early on about it's weak spot, when a Yammie got a 50K salvo from 18-20km.. But got a love for it since i in the next managed to punish and kill a Yammie for 70k in 2 salvoes and turned around and killed a GK with a 13K salvo.
I LOVE both this ship and Alabama and do consistently well in both. Both are accurate and agile, and both quite versatile. In fact, I prefer them over the Iowas and Montana as i find those way too sluggish. Overall, tier 8 is my favorite tier for BBs by far. I prefer Alabama right now simple because it's bit more agile and hence better in a brawl, and the fact that it's premium so I can use my 19 point captain, but otherwise I play both exactly the same way.
Hey Flamu, how far behind do you think the US BB line is in regards to power creep? Since the german and british line get a whole slew of "national flavour" bonuses do you think it's time the US got something unique or is strong AA and high shell arcs enough to distinguish them?
I can agree that the North Carolina is one of my most favorite battleships in higher tier games. She's beautiful, not a fat target but not a long target, her bow on and steep angling with her immense firepower of six 16" guns combined with that godly stealth (at her tier at least, fuck the Conqueror's...) makes her pretty damn formiddible at Tier 10 games. S'long as you stay at decent range, away from the cancerous Meme-o-Taurs that are the bane of my existence and away from the heaviest hitters like the Yamatos and the Monties and dare I say, the Great Elector himself the Currywurst. Plus, the N. Carolina is what battleships should be! Show that skirt and there's no doubt you'll end up at the bottom of the sea, careful positioning to keep your sides hidden from the ships that are able to hit you and wrecking anyone who turns and exposes the sides of their ship, especially delicious cruisers who are unaware of your presence behind an island.

what i like about alabama is its fast rudder shift.. i can use propulsion mod for fast acceleration,, even tho i still like it on NC as well and pretty much all bbs except montana
Well, the NC is one of the last BBs who actually need skill to not be killed instantly. Which I like. The only other high tier BB that really gets punished for showing to much broadside is the Yamato. I don't mind the turtleback on the Kurfürst as much as on other BBs who are practically immune to citadels. The Kurfürst has pretty bad firing angles, is huge so it takes alot of damage (I mean, shoot a Kurfürst who shows stupid broadside in another BB and you easily can hit him for 20k+ per volley. It isn't a devestating strike, but it is very much damage) - and it doesn't have as much strengh as for example the Conqueror who just got the broadside idiot playstyle on top of so many other strong points.
With the last captain skills rework, is dead eye a good skill to have ?! Also with the concealment skill, of course. Or is overrated ?! It´s my first tier 8 BB, and i could really use some help.
Montana has the same citadel as the NC (as it should be by her real life design), the difference is in the belt armors. Unless they buffed NCs sigma in a patch recently, it's sigma is also 1.8 the Colorado's is 2.0 which is the highest of any USN BB

imho It's the NC and the Nagato- both reward good accuracy- both require angling to survive. Both are fast enough to position properly but slow enough that positioning mistakes are costly. o7
Iowa is a better NC, except the main guns are less accurate. Overall, I liked the NC better b/c the main gun accuracy allowed you to punish people much more easier w/o RNG dictating your shells placement.
Yeah, I assumed that, it would be great if the Iowa and Monty had the most accurate guns considering the Iowa's guns were extremely accurate for a WW2 BB.
Iowa doesnt have worse dispersion. Its sigma may be 1.9, but its still gets better dispersion by 34 metres. Sigma is a measure of the how likely it is that 50% of the shells you fired will land where you aimed. The difference between 1.9 and 2.0 sigmas are not that high. The only difference is with 1.9 sigma you have to aim a little better. Iowa shells are actually fantastic in terms of penetration and arcs. All USN BBs are good at mid range, the Iowa and Montana being no exception.
She's a good rival to NC... with turtleback that can be troll pointblank (but not citadel proof) and excellent torpedo belt. But i unlike NC, Amagi has crap concealment, crap AA coupled with slightly worse vertical dispersion than NC, as a trade off of getting better horizontal dispersion than NC. TBH Kii would serve as a better rival.
I currently have saved up 75K free XP and I'm about 20K away from the NC. How should I buy it, I'm thinking of just getting that 20K on the colorado and then using the free XP for module upgrades. Sounds good?
Funny thing, it took me almost a year of playing and lots of frustrating games in Trolorado trying to get NC, to actually learn how to use my bow and brawl... And I bet I will have even more frustrating battles in NC until I rafinate the angling and stuff and situational awarness which is a huge problem (my brain refuses...). Colo is frustrating as hell but it actualy teaches you many things and it probably made me deserve my NC....but Im gonna find out in the following hours, still 12k exp away from getting this jewell.
I know I’m late, but like hell I care, I just want NC’s more badass sister ship, USS Washington, because she was a goddamned beast, never took a hit from an enemy that was anywhere critical (radio lines don’t count), and she beat the shit out of Kirishima and the fleet with her, which included Atago and Takao, who had 600 ft splashes pop up around them, fired some torps off against where they thought the source was, and fucked off

Just yesterday I took a 30k salvo from an NC. 10km out, 100% nose on- like, if he had stopped and I had gone directly forward, my nose would have rammed him in midships. He got two citadels plus change. German BBs have god-awful deck armor, I don't know why people complain that they're hard to deal damage to. Don't aim at the waterline, sweep the deck.
i kinda stopped at NC because she is a good ship and enjoyed playing her though i have neglected playing her for a while because of the new ships entering the game
great ship everyone says, however I have potato aim and skills and once I get wrecked when I reach Montana, ima grind for no skillz conqueror to trigger some skilled players who hate it
ImQueenElizibeth The Iowa is a superb T9 battleship (not counting the Missouri), especially after the citadel buff. It's a very well balanced ship, even if you're not interested in how spectacularly sexy that ship looks.
I really do think that the whole BB "i get to stealth for a few seconds inbetween shots while using full DPM" thing is kinda stupid and needs a change. It turned the stealth fire nerf into a mechanic that benefits BBs the most, which is just hilarious.
No it doesnt. DDs are permaspotted while using full DPM. Cruisers are permaspotted while using full DPM. BBs can hide for 5-10 seconds per salvo while using full DPM.
I don't understand how you can think that beginners will be playing Tier 8. Learning to play battleships is done at Tier 4, not Tier 8. I've played since Beta and my highest ship is a Tier 7 Nagato. I've played almost 1500 battles.
Help me guys, I wanna use my BB North Carolina in Ranked Battles. Probably, I'll recommended some Captain Skills, Upgrades, Signal Flags, and some Camouflage. Also, I needed some Premium Consumables when takes enough for that time!!! HELP ME OUT!!!!!
Yay .. more of the exact same. The dream of everyone ever playing a multiplayer online game. How about we just get rid of all the tech trees besides US and IJN so everyone will be fighting again in NCs and Amagis. Sorry but i prefer a game where ships of very different styles are available to support a lot of different play styles and tactics. Because one thing i don't need is to constantly face of bowtanking T8-10 US and T9-10 IJN BBs. I had that when WoWs just started and the only tech trees wher US and IJN, gets boring AF after a while.
Flamu , tell me something - i have average of 110k damage on yamato - which is not spectacular, not horrible either right ? But i feel like i'm completely unimpactful on games, since I cannot really push with guns turning so slow at all, when sometimes someone needs to make push. And I like to play aggressive. I have better kda and I was doing better in NC than i'm doing in Yammy. Fact is Yammato is far from my results in glorious amagi. I feel super vulnerable to all dds - more than in other BBs, vulnerable citadel as hell. And I don't even punish enough. Since 110k damage average aint really that super great at T10. What i'm doing wrong ? I did drop yamato for other ships now. My ratings are on border of unicum/excellent. So I'm not terribad. Would gladly take tips . And yes I saw your yamato games. But I don't have such games - either i'm stalked to death by some dd , without real counterplay or just burned to death. Even more now with BB adding to this considerably. This is really bummer since I do WAY better in other t10 ships I have. And even more sad thing is that most of this damage i do is to BB - so it's not even that high at all. Actually it's weak as fk :(. I do citadel way easier with Missouri/NC/German BB than with yammy.
Mario What you get from 460? Some lolpen and Shite tons of 1441 4884 What you get from thickest armor? Chance of overpen is low. What you get from historically best armor profile? Get citadel all angle and shite in CQC.
Yeah this game is aginst any logic, the harder you hit - the better it should be - but nope. And yeah my priority target is always yamato if it's broadside - I may not delete Conq or Montana that way - but Yamato ? Piece of cake. Super Big fat citadel, thick enough so no overpen will hpapen. Just bunch of juicy citadels for 50k or more. Dare to say with new BB he spam - i would say - it's least tanky T10 ships - among BB for sure. Among all t10 aswell - cruisers have concelament/mobility/smoke/defensive tools , dds are stealthy , have smoke , speed and agility. Idk what yamato has those days ...
I think one of the biggest problems for you is when they changed the citadel mechanics. It's been a while, but a ways back they patched the game to where shells can overpen the citadel. This used to never happen, you pen the citadel you get citadel damage- but now, you can overpen citadels and only get your 10%. Yamato probably felt that patch the most, since those guns are so huge and have so much pen lots of cruisers and even battleships if you catch at the right angle you can overpen the citadel and deal next to nothing whereas back in the day you'd devastrike them.

For me, a battleship should be inherently difficult to play well, in my mind, rather than a lazy "I WIN!" button. Like you said, the NC rewards good play and punishes bad play, rather than other battleships which are far, far too forgiving.
Cailus Griffin the bissy is well designed too - useless at range and able to get citadelled and if you dont manage to get close you are toast.
There is nothing I like to see more than a North Carolina's broadside when I'm sailing my Alaska.
I find her playstyle similar to Yamato, but with very fast reaction speed in exchange for an 18.1 incher (well yeah like a tier 8 yamato)
I feel like NC can do what all other tier 8 BBs can do, which exceeded my expectations...

Just to remind ppl, NC has underwater citadel as well. The current montana an iowa armor model are exactly the same the one NC has. If montana and iowa give you broadsides, you can still do massive amount of damage to them.
Some ppl have problem against montana. The reason is that Montana has much thicker armor compared to iowa and NC. So slight angling can reduce a lot of damage in that ship. A lot of ppl thought they were shooting at broadside montana but in reality if you look at the minimap, those montanas are usually angle at 20-30 degrees. The may look like broadside to you due to how long those ships are but they really are not.
The thing about it, is the only ones who can reliably hit the dropped US citadels, are US battleships. Everyone else has flatter shell arcs that don't have enough drop on them to penetrate the citadel unless you're near max range. That big US arc isn't just good for shooting over islands.
Yamato has high shell arc as well. I can lob my shell back at every Des Moines who try to shoot from behind island in the Yamato. Only German BBs have fast shell arcs.

Turtleback is fine, but the German Battleships should have low-range and be forced to close range to bring about their major advantage of amazing secondary DPM
The Amagi has turtleback armor. Though I think that it is a good example of BB turtleback, it has lower amounts of armor in trade for a better layout. And it allows the Amagi to travel at a higher speed and have better acceleration than the NC. But the Amagi is longer and thinner so it has a much larger turning circle.

Well they could make the citadels higher (like with the Montana Iowa and Missouri in hight) it would still be more affective sadly but not as affective,
And with the British BBs they just need to make the citadel like Montana Iowa and Missouri because they don’t need to have a citadel Half as wide and below water.

Joeseph Hunnicutt I think the German line is balanced quite well and has a lot of disadvantages. The RN bbs well...not so much.
I just unlocked the NC 2 weeks ago, and wow!! It's amazing!!! Even stock. The slog to get there was painful with all of the slow boats, but damn it was worth it.

Thanks for the videos Flamu - definitely my 'go to' for captain skills etc. My best ships in terms of my performance are IJN & US BB's with Nagato, Colorado & New Mex being the stars as far as my playstyle go. However still not confident in the NC as reflected in my stats. 33 games, 51.52% win, 50k dmg, 1248 base XP so about average across the board acording to Warships Today stats. I think the matchmaking is the biggest challenge as the cruiser T9/T10 HE spam (Ibuki's, Des Moines etc) and big hits from Iowa's, Yamato's etc are a bit of a put off. I think the skill with both of the BB lines (probably not so much for the Amagi though I haven't got that far yet) is judging when to turn so not to get rammed or torped by something going head to head with you (Tirpitz etc) but avoiding the citadel hits. Definitely a skill!
I disagree about getting Fire Prevention and Basics of Survivability at the same time being overkill. With all of the HE-spamming RN BBs are high tier gameplay, being able to mitigate that in any way is invaluable. Especially in a BB, the tendency is for everything that isn't a IJN, USS, or KMS BB to spam HE at you. Not only do fewer fires get set, they don't last very long. I think on my Yamato fires only last 33 seconds, IIRC. Makes it a lot easier to ignore fires and not worry about getting burned to death.

Brian Dugan your not aiming properly. If you don't aim right the shells spread out on purpose so you have a higher chance of hitting something.

North Carolina, Iowa, Montana and Alabama are all some of the most rounded ships in the game. They have great well rounded builds that aren't particularly weak in any aspect, but also aren't as strong snipers as the Japanese, nor as good at close range as the Germans. Just solid ships.

Just got done with the NC a day or two after World of Warships Birthday event. The only thing that really bugged me is that the dispersion seemed really bad a lot of the time. Would ended up aiming at the water line at a ship 10kts away and i would get shells just flying way over the ship.
I cant take it anymore! TWO Montanas were sailing boradside(!) infront of my 3 Yamato turrets and all i could do were one 20k pen volley and a few 8-10k ones !!!
mariodrv really? Because I've been citadeling US BBs just fine. Aim a bit lower. It used to be 3-4cits but now it's 1-2 which I'm completely ok with.

Basically what you are saying - I had one montana few minutes 9km from me standing broadside taking no damage at all or overpens/random pen - no citadel.

The problem is WG is a lowest common denominator bunch of hacks when it comes to game design.
The very things you said that makes the NC how all BBs should be in general (i.e. reward positional awareness, angling and choosing shots carefully) are the same things that make certain WG will move away from them more and more.
Why is that?
Put simply, 'skill' is a deterrent in a 'free to play' internet random pubbie game. The more skill is required, the more likely it is the average "I play for fun; please don't make me think" player will get frustrated and blame everything other than their inability to learn how the game works.
WG knows this, so they increasingly dumb the game down to the point your average family pet can play, their reasoning being that will retain the impatient, ignorant 'casual' gamer and there are far more of those than those who view skill and learning an integral part to enjoying a game.
In short, expect WG to send this game further down the stupidity whirlpool, just as they did with WoT years ago.

So what you're saying is wargaming is making the game fun for the majority of the player base and more accessible to new players instead of pandering to a tiny minority of highly skilled elitist players who think a video game should be a chore before it is finally fun only after many hours of practice. I had a blast in the NC, but recently got the Iowa and I'm finding that it's dispersion is much more RNG and frustrating. The AA is redunkulous though.
I got my Alabama (on sale) before i got the NC.. And i learnt from early on about it's weak spot, when a Yammie got a 50K salvo from 18-20km.. But got a love for it since i in the next managed to punish and kill a Yammie for 70k in 2 salvoes and turned around and killed a GK with a 13K salvo.
Love the NC, but what I hate is RnG hates me. Dispersion shafted me at below 10km, always happens although I have a solid shot on the citadel
I LOVE both this ship and Alabama and do consistently well in both. Both are accurate and agile, and both quite versatile. In fact, I prefer them over the Iowas and Montana as i find those way too sluggish. Overall, tier 8 is my favorite tier for BBs by far.
I prefer Alabama right now simple because it's bit more agile and hence better in a brawl, and the fact that it's premium so I can use my 19 point captain, but otherwise I play both exactly the same way.
Colorado is also a great ship at T7 except for its speed. I'm looking forward to NC!!

Hey Flamu, how far behind do you think the US BB line is in regards to power creep? Since the german and british line get a whole slew of "national flavour" bonuses do you think it's time the US got something unique or is strong AA and high shell arcs enough to distinguish them?
Stronger AP. Let US super heavy AP overmatch more armor at better angles.
I wasn't be able to play well the NC... These shell arcs are really painful, and land shells at more than 15km is more than hard.

I can agree that the North Carolina is one of my most favorite battleships in higher tier games. She's beautiful, not a fat target but not a long target, her bow on and steep angling with her immense firepower of six 16" guns combined with that godly stealth (at her tier at least, fuck the Conqueror's...) makes her pretty damn formiddible at Tier 10 games. S'long as you stay at decent range, away from the cancerous Meme-o-Taurs that are the bane of my existence and away from the heaviest hitters like the Yamatos and the Monties and dare I say, the Great Elector himself the Currywurst.
Plus, the N. Carolina is what battleships should be! Show that skirt and there's no doubt you'll end up at the bottom of the sea, careful positioning to keep your sides hidden from the ships that are able to hit you and wrecking anyone who turns and exposes the sides of their ship, especially delicious cruisers who are unaware of your presence behind an island.
@Flamu - please make another video of NC with the "target acquisition system" and range upgrade if it suits you better
what i like about alabama is its fast rudder shift.. i can use propulsion mod for fast acceleration,, even tho i still like it on NC as well and pretty much all bbs except montana

Well, the NC is one of the last BBs who actually need skill to not be killed instantly. Which I like.
The only other high tier BB that really gets punished for showing to much broadside is the Yamato.
I don't mind the turtleback on the Kurfürst as much as on other BBs who are practically immune to citadels. The Kurfürst has pretty bad firing angles, is huge so it takes alot of damage (I mean, shoot a Kurfürst who shows stupid broadside in another BB and you easily can hit him for 20k+ per volley. It isn't a devestating strike, but it is very much damage) - and it doesn't have as much strengh as for example the Conqueror who just got the broadside idiot playstyle on top of so many other strong points.
I'm not a good player by far, but my highest scores I have gotten with NC. In my opinion by far the best t8 ship.
With the last captain skills rework, is dead eye a good skill to have ?! Also with the concealment skill, of course.

Just as in WW2, the NC is amazing as it should be.
Montana has the same citadel as the NC (as it should be by her real life design), the difference is in the belt armors.
Unless they buffed NCs sigma in a patch recently, it's sigma is also 1.8 the Colorado's is 2.0 which is the highest of any USN BB

imho It's the NC and the Nagato- both reward good accuracy- both require angling to survive. Both are fast enough to position properly but slow enough that positioning mistakes are costly. o7

Iowa is a better NC, except the main guns are less accurate. Overall, I liked the NC better b/c the main gun accuracy allowed you to punish people much more easier w/o RNG dictating your shells placement.
Yeah, I assumed that, it would be great if the Iowa and Monty had the most accurate guns considering the Iowa's guns were extremely accurate for a WW2 BB.
Iowa doesnt have worse dispersion. Its sigma may be 1.9, but its still gets better dispersion by 34 metres. Sigma is a measure of the how likely it is that 50% of the shells you fired will land where you aimed. The difference between 1.9 and 2.0 sigmas are not that high. The only difference is with 1.9 sigma you have to aim a little better. Iowa shells are actually fantastic in terms of penetration and arcs. All USN BBs are good at mid range, the Iowa and Montana being no exception.
Iowa's guns also had = to penetration of the Yamato IRL , but we see how that translated to game as well.

She's a good rival to NC... with turtleback that can be troll pointblank (but not citadel proof) and excellent torpedo belt.
But i unlike NC, Amagi has crap concealment, crap AA coupled with slightly worse vertical dispersion than NC, as a trade off of getting better horizontal dispersion than NC.
TBH Kii would serve as a better rival.

Funny thing, it took me almost a year of playing and lots of frustrating games in Trolorado trying to get NC, to actually learn how to use my bow and brawl... And I bet I will have even more frustrating battles in NC until I rafinate the angling and stuff and situational awarness which is a huge problem (my brain refuses...). Colo is frustrating as hell but it actualy teaches you many things and it probably made me deserve my NC....but Im gonna find out in the following hours, still 12k exp away from getting this jewell.

I know I’m late, but like hell I care, I just want NC’s more badass sister ship, USS Washington, because she was a goddamned beast, never took a hit from an enemy that was anywhere critical (radio lines don’t count), and she beat the shit out of Kirishima and the fleet with her, which included Atago and Takao, who had 600 ft splashes pop up around them, fired some torps off against where they thought the source was, and fucked off

Bismark doesn't have any love for full broadside to other ships anymore.
I am even getting cit's against me while angled sometimes now.
Just yesterday I took a 30k salvo from an NC. 10km out, 100% nose on- like, if he had stopped and I had gone directly forward, my nose would have rammed him in midships. He got two citadels plus change. German BBs have god-awful deck armor, I don't know why people complain that they're hard to deal damage to. Don't aim at the waterline, sweep the deck.

NC has been S-tier since beta, my most played ship and favorite ship. Never even bought the Iowa as Monty doesn't interest me at all.
ImQueenElizibeth The Iowa is a superb T9 battleship (not counting the Missouri), especially after the citadel buff. It's a very well balanced ship, even if you're not interested in how spectacularly sexy that ship looks.
Yes the NC makes the Iowa feels weak. And personally I think the NC looks much better than the Iowa too.
My favorite out the the american fast battleships is actually the South Dakota Class, WTB USS Massachusetts.

People aren't complaining here because it was 100% the DD's fault in this case. He yolo rushed like a dingus then died like one as well.
I really do think that the whole BB "i get to stealth for a few seconds inbetween shots while using full DPM" thing is kinda stupid and needs a change. It turned the stealth fire nerf into a mechanic that benefits BBs the most, which is just hilarious.

No it doesnt. DDs are permaspotted while using full DPM. Cruisers are permaspotted while using full DPM. BBs can hide for 5-10 seconds per salvo while using full DPM.

Yay .. more of the exact same. The dream of everyone ever playing a multiplayer online game. How about we just get rid of all the tech trees besides US and IJN so everyone will be fighting again in NCs and Amagis.
Sorry but i prefer a game where ships of very different styles are available to support a lot of different play styles and tactics. Because one thing i don't need is to constantly face of bowtanking T8-10 US and T9-10 IJN BBs. I had that when WoWs just started and the only tech trees wher US and IJN, gets boring AF after a while.

It is in game. Well it states it 27knots ish... but you can achieve 28 knots in battles.
Flamu , tell me something - i have average of 110k damage on yamato - which is not spectacular, not horrible either right ? But i feel like i'm completely unimpactful on games, since I cannot really push with guns turning so slow at all, when sometimes someone needs to make push. And I like to play aggressive.
I have better kda and I was doing better in NC than i'm doing in Yammy.
Fact is Yammato is far from my results in glorious amagi.
I feel super vulnerable to all dds - more than in other BBs, vulnerable citadel as hell. And I don't even punish enough.
Since 110k damage average aint really that super great at T10.

Yeah this game is aginst any logic, the harder you hit - the better it should be - but nope.
And yeah my priority target is always yamato if it's broadside - I may not delete Conq or Montana that way - but Yamato ? Piece of cake. Super Big fat citadel, thick enough so no overpen will hpapen. Just bunch of juicy citadels for 50k or more.
Dare to say with new BB he spam - i would say - it's least tanky T10 ships - among BB for sure. Among all t10 aswell - cruisers have concelament/mobility/smoke/defensive tools , dds are stealthy , have smoke , speed and agility. Idk what yamato has those days ...
I think one of the biggest problems for you is when they changed the citadel mechanics. It's been a while, but a ways back they patched the game to where shells can overpen the citadel. This used to never happen, you pen the citadel you get citadel damage- but now, you can overpen citadels and only get your 10%. Yamato probably felt that patch the most, since those guns are so huge and have so much pen lots of cruisers and even battleships if you catch at the right angle you can overpen the citadel and deal next to nothing whereas back in the day you'd devastrike them.
