Hi Darla, I'm an aspiring sign painter and have to say thank you for your respect for the craft by giving a solid foundation by teaching the proper way to sign paint from the very beginning. I feel like I'm in good hands learning from you. Thanks again! :)
What a great attitude. I’m learning this as a hobby and a retiree but am also spending time sharing 40 years of real estate and property management experience to others just starting out. Young people and businesses find it strange that we are happy/keen to share our experience for free. They’re almost afraid to ask, whereas we’re keen to share before the knowledge has gone.
excellent presentation/teaching, Darla Dee! So glad my daughter found you and shared. 63 years old, have taken a number of calligraphy classes over the years, but I really love lettering. And you're my favorite teacher now.
Hello Darla! i’m an aspiring sign painter and i would find it so helpful if you’d make an in depth tutorial on how you care for your brushes. I really want to get into the basics but need to know what supplies i need to help maintain my brushes first, how to clean & store them etc. Best wishes!
This is so great. You've helped kickstart my signwriting journey so much. Having a board of a set width to quickly make lines with is a great pointer. Now I'm off to paint THE EIFFEL HAT THIEF FELL LIKE THAT a hundred times...
Darla hi there. Im just starting out and your videos are brilliant love the way you teach, great for us beginners, cant wait to start using your methods tomorrow! Thank you Darla from Dick Searle. From England UK.
Thank you very much this was a blessing and a huge help !!! You are a great instructor, very skilled, encouraging, and honest. I appreciate your videos and work !
I teach hand pinstriping, and drawing, on a gradient same as you do, building a great foundation is most important, and will be instilled in the viewer. Love that your using one of my design Signwriter Series brushes, I would love it ,and so will you if you tried my Smooth Stroke paint additive, just makes the paint go on smoother, let me know if you’d like to try some, and thanks for what your doing. You have a wonderful “stage” presence.
@@darladeeshandpaintedsignsa6501 I don’t think you have the right person Darla, I’ve never done a billboard, I’m actually fairly well-known for my scroll pinstriping style that I’ve developed since 1978, and the great brush designs that I manufacture.
Thanks Darla, great teaching, there's no doubting your incredible skills and experience. I'm an aspiring signwriter in the UK. With your help I aim to write signs for narrowboats to keep the tradition alive Than you.
Darla this is a wonderful lesson and so easy to understand and you give just the right amount of instruction and insight and encouragement. I hope you makes many more videos. BRAVO🏆
Dear Miss Darla, I'm so excited to have found you and your videos. My father was a sign painter, draftsman, tool and dye engineer, etc. Watching him letter was the best. Ive been working in chalk and chalk marker but am ready to commit to the brush. I love your attitude, style and approach. And yes please, recommend some brushes for beginners, please. So so so glad to have discovered you. ♥️🙏 And, I'm a Lefty!
Wow, thank you! I will finally be posting new videos very soon. I will be going through all of my supplies and making recommendations. Thank you for watching
Thanks so much Darla for your great videos - I'm in Melbourne Australia following along and trying my hand at sign painting! I've read a few books but watching the videos makes it so much easier to understand.
Thank you so much Dear Darla, i love how you explain the practice. Practice makes perfect is what my teacher always told me so i keep on doing this. Looking forward to learn more from you. Thank you.
This has been so up lifting, thank you! I've been struggling with the brush twist, hopefully doing it bigger and practicing stars will help! Looking forward to following on with your next lessons.
Gee! I know what it's like to forget something important, you just get that blank. The next thing is concentrating so hard you miss a letter. Spelt Happy Birtday more than once. Lol Diagonal strokes give us A K M N V W X Y Z. It also gives us the tail on the Q which is best left until after the curves. In calligraphy some beginners don't want to start with stick letters (skeleton) done with a pencil, but if you can't do the shape with a pencil you can't do it with a pen either. I really want to add these skills to my lettering and you are teaching the fundamentals that everything else is built upon. Already bought my brushes which are not easy to find in New Zealand. I'll have to make do with acrylic paint to start.
Hi Darla! I am new new your videos are the only ones I’ve seen so far, and I love them. When you mention in this video your brush was in oil, is that how you preserve it?
Hi Darla, love your approach very easy instructions. Can you recommend any suitable brush to start with as Kafca are a bit out of my pay grade. Please keep the videos going.
