I have to hand it to you, I've watched a lot of videos of people trying to explain motorcycle frames and to put it bluntly it gets very confusing very fast because of poor vocabulary. I have not seen such a concise, and informative video before. My hat is off to you sir, this video was beautifully done with phenomenal visual representation!
My understanding of the monocoque frame was a frame which pretty much the entire structure like a car shell or old scooter like the Honda c90 and some vespas, the had minimal openings to fit engine and few cutouts to access wiring. The phase may be to do with construction, they were made of pressed sheets of steel then welded into shape like pressing two jelly moulds together. Otherwise that Yamaha R1 frame could be considered monocoque, it could be the definition has evolved with frame design. Wikipedia can be useful but i have seen quite a few errors by borrowing old books and checking them. hope this helps
Monocorque frame, Engine being a major part of the frame is a great concept to save weight and material. This concept is used in Royal Enfield meteor 350 too, the front lower part of the frame is the engine casing itself and has proven to be very rigid and stable. It's a great utilisation of strong engine bodies which happens to be surprisingly very stable. One may think of it as something that would harm the engine or something that wont be reliable or durable but it comes out otherwise.
You are missing one of the most famous and popular monocoque frame in whole motorcycle history. Maybe is not sporty or enduro, or you may dont like but it is one of the biggest engineering creation in motorcycle history: Vespa monocoque frames.
At 4:03, you said, "A Trellis Frame runs from the Headstock all the way to the Swingarm." Since this video was made in 2018, I present the case of the 2016 Ducati X Diavel.
Any well engineered frame can offer a great experience on track. But it's not just the frame, it's combination of all components like engine suspension tries brakes etc. that makes a motorcycles great for track use. In the case of the Yamaha R3 , it may need a few mods like better tires and brakes to turn it into a great track day tool.
What about materials? In road racing bicycles steel is real; aluminum can and does suffer from metal fatigue and can fail without warning; Katana has an aluminum frame, Kawi Ninja 1000SX also an aluminum frame. I am willing to accept the heavier steel frame in exchange for not worrying about aluminum frame failures.
Older Gen Royal Enfield Bullet/Classic models (Shown in the Video, and when this video was being made) did not have Cradle Frames. The models after 2021 does. You also missed Diamond Frames and Backbone Frames.
So steel trellis frames are lighter compared to aluminum perimeter frames? What’s the reason they ever went to aluminum then for perimeter frames instead of just going from steel cradle to steel trellis ? I also noticed the steel tubing in trellis frame designs has gotten much thinner circumference, what’s the logic behind that? The newer Ducati monsters have much thinner trellis vs old ones as do newer sv650’s. 4:22
Brother i have a bachelor degree in automobile Engineering. No one taught better about motor cycle frames better than you.
Mainly they don't care about motor cycles that's the major problem in auto eng.
@@thivakarbatman7179 so true brother .. they directly jump into cars , 4 wheelers

Apparently the kawa 1400 and 1200 were originally monocoque framed. According to Wikipedia...

for additional structural integrity the 2 main beams of the twin-spar perimeter Delta frame could do with a lateral cross member, if possible . . .
You don't need to worry about forces at the headstock if you just don't use a headstock and forks for your front suspension.
outstanding. much better than "mike the bike" or whatever his name is. Seriously. You explained with demonstrations that fit your words. WELL DONE
Thank you revving heart I asked to do a video on bike frames and you did an excellent job. Really I wanted this info so badly thank you keep it up man
Thanks for the support and I'm glad that you find it useful.
Great explanations of the frame types covered ....but was looking for the underbone class, popular in SE Asia especially 🙂🏍️🛵
Loved your clear way of presenting concise very useful information. Keep it up!

Very informative and easy to understand. Thank you!
It was really helpful for studying monocoque frame,
does any difference rear suspention feeling between twin spar and monocoque?
I like your vid, very informative. Do more about other motorcycle types of systems/parts
Very good.....next.?...engine......rims...steering angles...?
Amazing video!! Thank you so much. Subscribed.

Can we make frame which can be adjusted (reduced while parking)? Sliding mechanism ??
Came here to see about pressed steel frames like Honda Dax, Super cub and Ariel Arrow? Motorbikes, did not see any mention 😥

(I mean the 2019 Yamaha r3)

@@RevvingHeart last question what type of swingarm does the 2019 r3 use..
@@venkt2414 Box section swingarm, actually it is of iron not the usual aluminium swingarm which all the other Yamaha R series bike uses!

superb informative video
How about diamond pole frame? Is it the same with single cradle?
Not exactly, the single cradle frame design is actually inspired from the diamond frame design found on bicycle.
Revving Heart whattttt my motorcycle is actually using bicycle frame? Oh nooooo😱

Trellis frame is a subset or twin spar? I think it would be the other way around since the trellis frame came long before the twin spar frame.
Good video tho 🤪
I have New Vixion Lightning, in other country named FZ150i and have Twin Spar name Deltabox
3:34 what did you say here please? Delta Box series ?
Can we change yamaha MT15 frame into flate frame?
4:52 what motorcycle is that again? for search purposes
Vyrus 987 C3-4V
The monocoque is vespa
Yes it is. Vespas are one of the early two-wheeler to adopt this sort of construction method.
the video content is very good but the sound is not clear
