Melissa, particularly loved this vlog. Found it very useful for putting winter outfits together - leg lengths/ footwear, necklines etc. I know you've put the messages out in previous vlogs, but comparing the dos and donts really brings it home. Thank-you x
Melissa, I found you a few years ago and since then I have enjoyed watching each of your videos. Today you showed how much difference choosing the right color sets makes. The fact that I saw different color versions on you is very useful. Thank you:)
Thank you for yet another great video. Melissa, you are AMAZING. There are many influencers out there on YT claiming to be stylists but all they do is just showing individual pieces. You are actually sharing the insider knowledge and teach us all how to put it all together "from head to toe" and be stylish. I am so grateful for your videos. Greetings from Texas!
Me too, being of Spring colouring, navy is my goto basic, but I realised the other day I am going to need a lighter oatmeal or cream base to liven it up. I’ve invested in some light coloured scarves to help brighten the dark navy base. I just can’t work out what coat to get as a pear shape because the oversized coats make me look really flat chested and my shoulders look even more sloping. Shoulder pads are definitely the way forward, methinks. Thanks @mmpersonalstyling for another helpful video.
I never normally comment on any videos but I wanted to say thank you for all your useful information. I’m 47 and after maybe 14 years of wearing and styling skinny jeans I have been feeling unsure how to style looser style jeans for a while now- I just about mastered the sandal and trainer pairings but as it’s getting colder I wasn’t sure what boots went with what jeans!! Thank you for your advice, it’s definitely helped me. ❤xx
An excellent video with so much practical information and advice. I particularly enjoyed the basics of styling the whole outfit with coats, shoes and bags. Thank you. I would be very keen to watch a video about skirt styling.
Yes, skirt video, please! And what a good staple winter wardrobe, and you always put them together so well. And you have absolutely convinced me to get carrot jeans :)
Wish I’d of know you in my 30s cause I can’t believe I’m learning how to dress in my 50s ! Thank you Melissa and the team I’m finally feeling chic and on trend 😘 yes please for the skirt video as I don’t wear them

Thank you MM, again. Your videos are gems!! As I edit my closet for winter I am taking your advice and keeping my white tees in place, both crew neck and v neck! Also, I look better in v neck tops and will retry manipulating my v neck tee under my v neck sweater as you demonstrated.
You have such great information in all your videos of style wise wearable clothes for women of all ages and price points. I also love your body shape masterclasses
Thank you for all your hard work! It is so useful how you guide everyone on how to invest time in selecting the correct basics. In the past I used to think basics were boring and now I find they are style impacting. I used to brush off purchasing basics and instead would go for more statement pieces...and then would not know what to wear. Thanks to your videos, my style has improved and my wardrobe is more versatile with less items in it. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!. PS: Thank you for providing info on the sizes you have selected, it's a game changer to know that. Thank you!
Melissa, thank you for this video, it is so helpful. Wearing an off white sweater is so out of my comfort zone, I did pick one up at a cheaper price\quality to see if I can do it. I love lily silk and will buy theirs once I feel comfortable seeing myself in the lighter layering color. Thank you for addressing where the v neck should be for a larger bust, it really does make all the difference. I live in California so coats really not as needed, but I am applying your techniques with my lighter weight cotton trenches, and I am liking it so far. Thank you so much!
Loved this video, so complete and informative - although it is frustrating that Lilysilk doesn't sell to Portugal and I'm always left wishing it did when I see your pieces. Video on skirts: YES PLEASE!
I make my own clothes and am due for a new wardrobe as my old clothes are getting tatty and I lost some weight. So this has been an excellent video to help me plan a capsule wardrobe, thank you! I will try and adjust for summer as we are having a very hot summer in South Africa. I am also planning to knit a new jersey for next winter so this has given me some ideas for that as well
Wow! Superb video. So much useful information, especially about the jeans/footwear. Yikes!! Just bought a pair of wide-leg jeans yesterday and now skinnies are coming back?? 🙄 Yes, I would love to see more information on skirts (styles for different body shapes - especially petites!! - and the right footwear and third layer to pair with). Thanks again for such brilliant content. 🥰
Thank you for a lovely video again! I know you did one last year but it would be great to have an update on coats this year. To have only a small selection of the basics suitable for most occasions would certainly help me!
@@trishhickson1550I agree, I barely put my coat on last winter, unless I’m going for a winter walk I find I don’t need my coats, I park the car outside my office and it’s too hot in the shops for a coat. UK climate is very mild on the whole x
Such great information presented clearly and love the example outfits. I've learned from your videos that as a short busty woman, I should avoid the drop shoulder when buying t shirts. Does the same apply to v neck sweaters? I struggle to find a drapey sweater that doesn't have drop shoulders.
Thank you so much. That was so helpful in terms of specifics of what is right and what is wrong in styling as well as what the necessary pieces are for a capsule wardrobe and why. I so appreciate the advice.
Thank you for another fantastic informative video. Please can you tell me which shoulder pads you use, I remember that you recommended a certain type in one of your earlier videos, I have been searching but unfortunately can't find the video where you linked it in the description. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge.
I'm a petite, rectangular body shape with a bit of stomach, flat butt, and thin legs and just as you said, the carrot jean/barrel jean actually gives me shape and makes my middle (the widest part of me) look smaller than I really am. I have the Abercrombie barrel jean in washed black, and love it. Not everyone's cup of tea, but works for me. I just need to find a warm yet slim lined cropped jacket to wear with it! Really enjoyed this video, Melissa! Liked, subscribed!
Oh Melissa!!!! I loved everything and also loved how you styled everything. I loved everything soooo much!!! So, did I say I loved everything bwahahahaha!! 🤣 😂 🤣. Many thanks for sharing with us, I thoroughly enjoyed watching so much, it’s a shame we don’t have a lot of these stores where I live 😢but I will live vicariously through yours! Many thanks again and excited for the next video 🩷💕 Tina 💕🩷
Another great video! As I continue to refine my wardrobe, sounds like I almost need to start with the shoes and work up! My shoe options are limited because I have a very small (size US5.5) but wide foot. I tend to put on an outfit and then throw on shoes that fit - but don't necessarily go the best.
Great video. I would love to wear skirts but see them as dressy items vs. everyday, like the silk skirt you show. That would likely hang in my closet waiting for a special occasion. A video to help style skirts for practical everyday wear would be of interest. Thank you.
Thank you for another fantastic super helpful video. I would love to see you style skirts and would like to ask how to style short skirts or even minis for the autumn/winter season.
So enjoyed your video. I ordered the white jumper and cardigan from lilysilk using your code. Thank you. I didn’t know whether to wait for Black Friday or not…but took the plunge. You wear it all the time so it must be great …
Hope you love them. I'm not aware of their black friday deals but if they are better then simply return the first purchase and purchase again under the better offer!
Thanks Melissa for such an informative video, will definitely be looking for a cream jumper now. I’ve tried the carrot jeans but felt they weren’t flattering on me, interestingly you mentioned that they can make you look block like if you don’t have a well defined waist with curves and narrow legs / flat bottom ( that’s me), which shape jeans would you suggest instead ? Many thanks.
Another great video. Don't wear a lot of skirts but I have invested in 2 longer knit skirts with matching knit top. Would like to see your take on that.😊
Thanks so much for this lovely and very helpful video! I am looking at the LILYSILK products mentioned here. Some of them go to XL and others to XXL. Do you know why that is and if they all go to XXL sometimes? I am asking because you mentioned maybe going up one size and think I need XXL. Something different: I can see why the black doesn't go with everything but I am curious whe the light grey ones are as good a basic choice as white/off white? Going toward winter where we all get a bit pale white seems like a challenging colour 😉Thanks in advance 🫶

Great video, Mallisa loved it very informative as usual. I'm just wondering how many basic items should we have, eg, 4 Roundneck t shirts 4 v neck 4 crew neck 😊 Oh and yes, please to the skirts video ❤
That depends on your lifestyle but personally I have an entire wardrobe full of neutral tops of different fabric weights, different sleeve lengths etc.
I feel very fortunate to have found the Varley short puffer jacket for a third of the price as a new sample. It’s so puffy and warm though that I couldn’t even dream of wearing it yet! Melissa you must have been boiling although I’m sure you looked lovely!🥵
What a useful episode Melissa and you’ve given me loads of ideas on how to update and upgrade my wardrobe. You showed many types of boots which was helpful but you didn’t say where the ginger suede heeled boot came from. Could you let us know please. Now just got to decide what cashmere I am going to get
Dear Melissa! I love your videos! The "head to toe" styling method make me think about the hair colour. Is it important in this case or it doesn't matter? Could a dark hair balance the black shoes for example? 😊
Melissa, what do you suggest we wear on our legs with skirts or dresses in cold weather? Do people wear pantyhose or tights these days? Or do we stick with bare legs?
Love this! But can we talk about socks and tights? It's too cold to flash any ankle flesh out here in the sticks, so I would usually wear boots......however a lot of my socialising takes place around friends' houses, where on arrival all footwear has to be removed. It is too cold to pad around in bare feet and I have to show some sock! Would you recommend pairing sock colour to jumper colour? I'd love to see some of your skirt/dress suggestions with tights just for some inspiration - thank you! xxxx
I'd pair your sock colour to your trousers and better still, i'd take some slippers so you can still show your ankles but keep your feet warm at the same time.
It depends on how long your legs are and how tall you are. I'm 5ft 3 and a half and can't wait bootcut or flared jeans without a heel, instead i'd wear an ankle grazer which I can pair with a flat shoe. If you've got longer slender legs then trainers work great with them.

Thank you for sharing these tips but I have to ask, does skin tone and complexion matter when choosing basics? I ask, because, I am black, medium brown skin tone, on the warm side and grey and white wash me out. However, black always looks good on me. Grey washes me out as well, so what advice do you have on darker skin tones?
Regardless of your skin tone you always need the white/offwhite/cream and within those shades you'll find one that suits you. GREAT video as always. the COS v neck is not available in white and hasn’t been for months. 😮 Also it would be great if you let us know if you find some suitable low heeled ankle boots in brown for us Spings that don’t wear much black 🙏🙏🙏
I am working on correcting my food and transitioning into barefoot zero drop schoes and feel better in my foot. Knees and lower back. My question is they dont have anything pointy, and all are pretty much rounded. how can i still look stylish. Many thanks.
Everything looked great and worked well together😍I’m in the US and didn’t see a link to the layering piece with the built in bra. Could you say what brand it is please.
I agree, black really doesn’t go well with many colors at all. But, white goes with every one, including black. White, or off-white if I can’t get true white (as in most silk and wools), tops always look great. I have some black in my wardrobe, it’s impossible to avoid in US-available brands, but not that much. It isn’t flattering next to the face and is just plain overdone here. Many, many items come only in black, even if available in lighter colors at the same company’s website overseas.
I love Lily Silk, but the waists run very small and rarely have any elastic, so I size up on their bottoms. I usually size down on tops and sweaters, but I was never a fan of oversized looks. Relaxed, yes, big, no.
I appreciate the demonstration of the black vs white base layers. What a huge difference it makes to the looks.

@mmpersonalstyling Thank you! Great advice xx
Thank you for your helpful video. Could you also do one where you show how to include scarfs and hats please?
sure...
Lily silk have got a 50% Black Friday deal on at the moment ❤
ohhh, get in their ladies!
Great video! I was wondering what kind of shoe styles goes best with bootcut or flare jeans...other than heels?
It depends on how long your legs are and how tall you are. I'm 5ft 3 and a half and can't wait bootcut or flared jeans without a heel, instead i'd wear an ankle grazer which I can pair with a flat shoe. If you've got longer slender legs then trainers work great with them.
I love your styling Melissa and would you to show us how to add an item with an ‘edge’. 🙏🏽
We leave personalised styling for our 1:1 clients as we have to stay quite generic on youtube. You can book a 1:1 serivce at www.mmpersonalstyling.co.uk
Love this video!! Can you recommend a chunky paper lip necklace that is not as expensive as MV?
Marks and Spencer’s do some great ones x
Did not find any jewelry at Marks and Spencer’s US site
Thank you for sharing these tips but I have to ask, does skin tone and complexion matter when choosing basics? I ask, because, I am black, medium brown skin tone, on the warm side and grey and white wash me out. However, black always looks good on me. Grey washes me out as well, so what advice do you have on darker skin tones?
Regardless of your skin tone you always need the white/offwhite/cream and within those shades you'll find one that suits you. We have a colour specialist as part of our styling team, she's called Julia and she can help you sort out your colours if this is something you're interested in! GREAT video as always. the COS v neck is not available in white and hasn’t been for months. 😮 Also it would be great if you let us know if you find some suitable low heeled ankle boots in brown for us Spings that don’t wear much black 🙏🙏🙏
i love that wrap jumper i wish it came in more color ways !
We couldn't link it i'm afraid as we couldn't find it on the website, only on the UK website.
Thank you love the video x
Can you recommend a debobbler for knitwear please.
Yes, I've already included one on both the UK and the US board, just click the link in the description box.
