My 99 Solara door stoped opening. Thank you for explaining this, im hopeless when it comes to fixing car issues but this saved me money and I was actually able to fix it.
Cool. I had to rebend mine again last month. I bent it a bit extra so it would last! lol First time I did it lasted about 8 years.

Credit where credit is due - this worked great for me today mate. Fixed two doors where the door would open, but the interior handle would stay stuck in the open position and not retract. Thank you from Australia
Hey Brett, you just saved me a load of cash. Took off interior door panel, checked handle and latch mechanisms then noticed one rod was binding on the anti "slim jim" cover over the rods and it was out of spec Took that out and bent it a little where it was binding, then took two pair of vice grips and rebent the door handle rod on it's original bends. Just a little bit so handle was back in the correct position. Perfect!!!!! BTW the car is an 06 Sentra, with 48k on the odometer and is babied. So if anybody else is having probs with a Nissan, definitely try this. Many thanks dude!

Will definitely give this a try! I have a babied 97 Cutlass and they're such a trustworthy, good car - 135K and not a bit of trouble until this. I don't think I'll have to take the entire panel off on mine - here's hoping, and thanks!
While it would have been nice to have some internal pics on this, after looking at a number of others and having this issue where the internal handle wouldn't open it I figured what the heck, it makes sense, tried it and works perfect... Thanks!

@Vitality Massage, which way do I bend the metal, let's say with everything in place and inserted into the inserts and handle which way do I bend the metal?

Hi Brett- I did what you said in this video and I fixed my stuck/won't open from the inside door. I also have a Toyota Camry. Some WD40 and working with it freed it up. You can be sure if I would have taken this problem to a mechanic, they would have done the same and charged me $100 or more, right? Right! Thank you for the brilliant video! I have a 2002 Toyota Corolla and this car has no bells and whistles on it.
It still has the grank down windows and no cruse control.
It decided to stop working yesterday so I have to roll down the window and stick my arm out and open it from the outside.

Yep, the nowaday door constructions are way more complicated and that sucks for the DIY guys. Than you have to go to the garage and those guys also need more time to do the job and you pay more for it. That really sucks.... :)

How do you actually "bend" the rod? You don't Show that part on the video. Can you make another video showing the actual process of "bending" the rod? Thanks man.
@@MrDaharpe Just bend it. It's not that thick. Or you can put it in a vice to get more pressure. You have to keep bending until it lines up with the door lock.

Problem I had was that the door was stuck shut and one of the door panel screws is only accessable when the door is open. Door Catch 22.

Hmmn. This might be the problem with the Corolla. Changed the interior door handle, but the door still wouldn't open. The rod is moving though...
My rod is moving as well but the door only opens intermittently. Sounds like my rods need rebending as well. My wife says buy a new car. Buying new is her answer for everything, but I will try this bending of the rods and not waste money.

why dont they just make them with shorter but straight rods in the 1st place? would never get the problem then. What make of car is that? its high mileage and usually american built cars fall to bits way before that
How to break into Mondeo locked door
A straight line of sight between the handle and the release is not available. Also, the way the rod connects each mechanism has to be on the right angle. This is why it can't be a straight rod. Wouldn't it be easy if everything were that simple?
I LOVE how in 2018, a 2014 is recommended. Where are all the lazy 2018 mechanics at?

Incidentally: Did you know that some if not all cars can be locked from the INSIDE using car keys to prevent an older child from opening the door; but can still be opened from the outside. Merely a child security feature.

Thanks bud, managed to google how to do that on my Mark X, someone had used the child locks and l did not know where they are, l almost went to a mechanic, thank you for saving my wallet man

I don't agree with popping the seam off...because then you'll have a separate nuisance on your mind. Better just to unscrew the door handle itself. My last advise is for Brett. Everyone knows unscrewing the door would be involved, but you just wording everything doesn't really help. I mean it's like if I made a video on how to play Monopoly while I record myself showing just the Box.
And I'm only saying that because your video would have around 90% or 95% likes, as oppose to the 50% range you have
They all pop off but you have to unscrew a few bits. On mine I had to unscrew the plastic pop up thing connected to the lock but then the thread it was connected to went sideways and the door could not be opened either way. Evenutally I used a needle to move the thread upright to reconnect the Plastic pop up thing.
nice verbal instructions but some of us need to see you work step by step instructions so we can stop video to make sure we're doing it right but thanks anyway.
I told you... I had already done the job and didn't want to take the whole f-ing thing apart again.
