I've literally almost crashed my 850 wagon cause I was so stunned by the unique, refreshing presence and beauty of a new V90 that was passing by. I couldn't help but stare as my jaw dropped on the floor. Best part was the driver noticed my gawking, looked over at me, and smiled knowingly.
Bravo T. Jon Mayer and your team. The V60 and the CC are officially the prettiest wagon - ever. Bar none! Just out of curiosity, we talk lots about the typical Swedish/Scandi design we all love so much. But you're an American/Canadian? So how did the Swedish DNA came about in the design of this machine? And thanx Gregson for this interview cause it's simply very very cool to be able to hear the design philosophy directly from the design team leader.
Long live Volvos! My family is a little obsessed. My parents owned 240's and then a V70 XC and an S60, and now I have a 960 wagon. It's exciting to see how popular they've become and the wide acceptance in both luxury and sport markets. Can't wait to see what the Polestar division will come up with in the coming years!
Exceedingly, exceedingly beautiful car. Loving every angle of it inside out. I like this Chief Designer. Competent! And from the look of it, this Volvo is more of an American designed rather than Swedish. Awesome interview Dude.
14:50 50 shades of beige nowadays. The best thing would be to introduce Paint To Sample/Individual/Exclusive program similar to other premium manufacturers where you could choose at least from the previous special Volvo colours like Cream/Hello Yellow, Saffron, Flash Green, various blues you all know, etc. For a hefty price of course but the the option would be there. Especially if there will be no special colours outside of the Polestar blue in this generation and even that is a maybe.
That color doesn't show up well on camera. It's gorgeous. It's like this metallic flaked champagne color. In the sun it pops beautifully. Beige =/= boring.
Big wagon fan and have a V60, love the vehicle. One disappointment with Volvo is the limited color selections outside the premium trims. Looking forward to a new V60 in the future, hybrid or alternative energy in a blue....
Looks great as most Volvos! If I had all the money in the world, I would buy one in Rebel Blue if that is possible, and.... A manual transmission which is sadly impossible to get in a new Volvo now days, so I would have to settle for the second best transmission the 8 speed tiptronik with a polestar map. Polestar V60 engine tune/spec, defuser and exhaust system.
Sean Deisch I don't really know, I think there is a possibility that Polestar will continue to "tune" cars. The basic "tunes" if you could call them that (the ones that ad like 25hk or something like that) there really common here in Sweden. I don't think polestar will "build" more extreme Volvos like the Polestar V60 and S60. What I wanted to do with new V60 was to make my own polestar, by taking some components from the older polestar V60 with the 2 liter VEA engine and 8 speed tiptronik gear box. It is the same 2 liter VEA engine (minus the turbo, supercharger, tune and possibly reinforced components, like pistons, crankshaft and more stuff like that. The older polestar V60 (the later one with the 2 liter VEA) is the most brutal car I have been in, it was ridiculously fast.
William Gson I thought that Volvo said that they where going to quit making manual cars because "a manual is not premium". Making a manual option only available one diesel cars (D3 and D4) makes no sense, you buy a diesel if you want an fuel efficient car or want to tow things and feel the torque. And those are things that a automatic transmission can do better than a manual. Please don't get offended if you like diesels, but you have a really short rev range and power band. I have driven a manual diesel twice, I didn't like it!
Klas Peppar D3 and D4 are the smaller engines.. and I dont see what problem there is with a manual diesel? You still have 4000 rpm to play with unless its a realöy big diesel engine..
I fucking love Volvo. I've been a VAG guy for as long as I had a driver license by ever since buying an XC90 for wife I'm slowly debating switching to Volvo myself. I just wish they had a more robust tuning portfolio aftermarket wise.
That thing is amazing. If that was offered with a five cylinder turbo (like your V70R) and a six speed manual I would sell my V50 T5 M66 and a kidney and buy one.
It was given to us by the gentleman in the video! Those are T. Jon’s sketches and they’ve never been released to the public before this video 🙂 -Gregson
I think the cross country option of V60 would be the best car for most of people. It is even better than XC60 which is World car of the year. I really liked the V90 Cross over, but it is too long, so this should be perfect.
From this angle it looks awful: images.autouncle.com/se/car_images/a41ac416-89e0-4223-985e-0ab2fc48cd14_volvo-v90-d3-business-automat-7-5-basbelopp.jpg
Compare it with v60 and you will see the huge difference: www.autocar.co.uk/sites/autocar.co.uk/files/styles/gallery_slide/public/images/car-reviews/first-drives/legacy/v60-0465.jpg?itok=IfesTd23
The design direction has turned too much twords the boxy direction, I like the detail work much more then the previous version but the whole has less shape and looks to much like a box.
They really messed up. Yes, lots of the lines are nice, but Volvo was always practical first while also being fun, sporty, safe. They sloped the back gate in order to please the latest trends of "sleek" and so turned their back on practicality - huge decrease in rear carrying capacity! ...total fail and rejection of their heritage!
This one is far more upright than the V90. I wouldn't say they completely messed up. There needs to be a balance of both "sleek" and "practicality", I think they got it right here.
Volvo must be the best comeback in the car industry in this millenium
Totally agree!
I'm not a fan of wagons, but this one really tucks at my heart strings.

I love as a Volvo driver where Volvo is going ! Great car !!

I think this looks even better than the V90.
Yeah, ive seen the v90 close up and the hood reminds me of a muscle car with a hood that goes on forever, this new one has much better proportions.
We swedes sure do love our Volvo wagons
HurrDurrzz im not swede im finnish but i also love volvos
I'm American and I love Volvo wagons also
im not really into wagn, but damn... this V60 is really sexy
I utterly love my XC40! My dealer can't keep them in stock. This wagon will sell equally well. Super hot! Perhaps my trade in 3 years.
Awesome car, with the front axle moved to the front, it looks so much better
So glad they’re bringing it to the US! I think the proportions look better than the XC 60.

Klas Peppar I don't think there will be polestar Volvos after 2018. Maybe they will have a R model tuned by polestar.

You can get the new V60 with a 6-speed manual if you choose the D3 or D4 engine.

Great looking as usual for Volvo.
I fucking love Volvo. I've been a VAG guy for as long as I had a driver license by ever since buying an XC90 for wife I'm slowly debating switching to Volvo myself. I just wish they had a more robust tuning portfolio aftermarket wise.
Very interesting, thanks for sharing!

no more 5-6 cyls for volvos :(((
what color is that? pebble grey?
Hopefully I am not the only one who caught the attention on that beauty instead of the car
It's an ESTATE !!!! not Wagon !! Americans don't like that name anymore !! Interesting video, thank you.
My first car was a Volvo, and looks like my last car will be a Volvo too.
Wow! Where did you find that concept art?
It was given to us by the gentleman in the video! Those are T. Jon’s sketches and they’ve never been released to the public before this video 🙂

4:12.... speechless
Right!? And those are HIS sketches. Simply stunning.
-Gregson
What paint color is that?
Søren Braad Steen Pebble gray. They mention it in the video.
Looks just like a V90. Like, literally.
When my XC 70 dies in another 20 years or more , I hope, I will look for another Volvo.
I think the cross country option of V60 would be the best car for most of people. It is even better than XC60 which is World car of the year. I really liked the V90 Cross over, but it is too long, so this should be perfect.
Estimated price?
google it
Can't wait to see someone bag it
😂😂😂 please no
-Gregson
Only problem with new volvos are the terrible touchscreen... and that the engines are a mess to work on.
did you ask about RDesign trim ?
Yes. No word yet on that officially.
-Gregson
that's a weird way to spell 855R
R-Design / Polestar version when?
No word yet. I’d imagine we’d hear later this year or early 2019 on that. So far only momentum and inscription.
-Gregson
Needs to be an EV version.
They're for British traffic cops, carpet salesmen, and people who do a lot of DIY.
volvo s60 date?
Should be available this summer/fall
Wonderful design but this 'poised athlete' still does around 40mpg. I owned cars in the 80s which did that and weren't poised for anything but rust.
aint no secks like wagon secks
Volvo is a kind of car that my father drives, which is comfortable and spacious, but is not as good for driving enthusiasts.
Too small, grandpa would have a difficult time with this. SUV for the win; because my kids don´t need a future. But I need a truck.
The V60 makes the V90 look ugly
The V90 looks ugly from the back with an angle of 45 degree
From this angle it looks awful: images.autouncle.com/se/car_images/a41ac416-89e0-4223-985e-0ab2fc48cd14_volvo-v90-d3-business-automat-7-5-basbelopp.jpg

No, the interior may be better in the V90
I love that car but reputation is so bad now days. Will have to go with Toyota

would have looked just as good (maybe more distinctive) if they went with the a vertical tailgate
cyclesingsleep : this new V60 wouldn’t look well parked outside your cave 😝🤪🤣🤣🤣
0/10 no Volvo english
Sorry but this Time its not your country who made a car and that country is called America
