This was a true master class in Euro Nymphing. The way Pat fishes is remarkable in the context of how he divides the stream into segments and then fishes each one while making sure not to over-step and spook trout in areas he had not covered yet. This video is one I can watch over and over and learn something every time I watch it.
Pat is the real deal. A humble angler whom all fishermen--beginner and expert alike--would benefit from watching. He picks apart water with surgical precision, and I particularly like how he talks to himself. He definitely has a system and sticks to it. Great video. Thank you for sharing!
Awesome content. Love Pat Weiss; a true expert that you don't hear much about. The best and truly great anglers most often seem to be the ones doing it quietly behind the scenes.
Pat is a great angler. I had the honor of fishing with him but also controlling him in comps and I learned so much from watching him fish it made me a better angler
@@FullingMillTV great angler and just a good guy to meet on the stream. He’s not afraid to tell you what he is using. I would like to look through his fly box at some point
Great content!! I’m fishing a creek that has big browns. You have to sneak on these fish, the water is small and very clear. I just switched from felt soles to felt with spikes. There’s a huge difference, the fish can hear me coming with the spiked felt soles. I can see them spooking from a greater distance. It’s amazing how the little things can make such a difference!!! After switching back to felt only, things are back to normal. Thanks a bunch fir the content and video!!!!
Explanations are great and interesting to see your intensity, but still wish you could use an even more high vis line in your videos so that we could more easily see it.
This is a superior video. Watching Pat fish, and listening to him explain the reasons for his strategies and choices, is a post graduate course in Euro nymphing. Now, it would be great if Pat could describe the leader he's using in this video (its length, diameter, and the diameter of the sighter). I would also like to know if he's still using his Sage 1 10' wt., or whether he's moved on to another rod.
I asked Pat about the leader, but he said some things remain secret 😉 As for the rod he cycled between 3 or 4 that day and I can't recall what it was. Super happy you enjoyed the video!
Any chance we can find out what color thread and rib are on the Weiss Firefly? Huge thanks to Fulling Mill for convincing Pat to do this. Everything I have ever tried with his name on it catches trout everywhere I go. Thanks a ton for sharing this.
It's our pleasure. Glad you enjoyed it so much, and thrilled the flies are performing so well for you! The rib is brown wire, and the thread is Danville #41

Really glad you enjoyed it! It was a pleasure to get to watch Pat in action.
The most subtle casting stroke I've ever seen. Slow and methodical, nice. The relaxed humility is refreshing.

Some Jedi stuff going on here! Pat is a great guy and a great angler! Outstanding video guys!!
We so appreciate your kind words!
His calm careful approach is good.
Pat is the man!
He sure is!

I feel the same way from watching him when filming. So eye opening. What a fantastic angler!

Interesting how Pat starts higher in the water column and works his way down. Thanks for sharing this.
Makes sense though for nymphing. That way you're not throwing your nymph on top of their heads working up
Awesome watching Pat carve up a stream.
It's truly something special to watch!

Glad you liked it! Really cool observation about the felt soles. Great learning lesson!
@@FullingMillTV. Love to c more Pat Weiss content!!
We have more coming 😁
Thank you for doing this 🙏
Excellent video -- thanks! Curious - what thread do you use for the firefly pattern?
Photography angles quite often distort distance. As a matter of interest, how much leader outside of the rod rip is Pat using?

Deeply enjoyable. Here's hoping Alan Ruck plays him in the major motion picture adaptation, The Downward Drifter.
😆🤣
Anyone see the rise in the slack water 40 seconds in?
That was in fact a log that he stepped on, not a rise!

@@FullingMillTV thank you. What color is #41? I'm guessing a small thread?
@@FullingMillTVit looks like beige is #41. Light olive is #61. Olive is #60.
@@FullingMillTV I would love to know what the body material and thread is on Weiss' BP nymph. Thanks.
I ran into pat today on spring creek and I didn’t know it was him. Shoulda asked for an autograph
You'll have to next time!
😂 00:38 🐟 are taunting you!
Can you confirm that he was floating his sighter?
I’m wanting to know the same thing! Seems like he is..
In a lot of cases he was!
This is great, but it would really be " ideal" if we could see his sighter somehow.
It was even hard for him to see, the glare was tough!
No one talking about the fish that literally rose a meter away from him at the very start
That was a long stick he stepped on-I thought the same thing at first!
This would be pretty useful if we could see his rod and line...
Fishy dude
They don't come any fishier.

It's too bad Pat doesn't guide, all that knowledge needs to get passed on!
You're in luck-he does! Reach out to Weissfishing@yahoo.com if you'd like to get out with him.
