    Glad you asked, I have actually got a new video planned to show a few great mods on my BC trap. Compared to many of the falconers in my state, my BC technique is primitive. It works, but with my updates it's gonna be a whole lot better. Stay tuned and thanks for watching!

    roll, in fact, my proto type wheel trap got lodged in a fence across a ditch 45 feet down the road from where I threw it out the window!!!! I love that you have ideas, experimenting leads to innovation, if you ever make a bc and it works id love to check it out! thanks for watching and stay tuned!

    didn't really need the inner tube or the taped rocks. can be done with secure anchoring the rim to the grounder all the spokes side down. but great information. Im still considering going for a license. just doing all my research before I start in that direction. thanks for sharing!

    falconersapprentice Love your vids, man. I assume your a master falconer and your channel is for aspiring apprentice falconers? Well, I didn't finish my apprenticeship twenty years ago, but now I've decided that I want to follow through on it. It's been on my bucket list since before the phrase, bucket list. I'll be watching your vids more often and I also plan to join the MN Falconer's association, of which I was a member back in the 90s. Keep doing what your doing. Falconry is a great sport and more people need to know about it whether they practice it or not.

    There are countless possible ways to make an effective BC, just takes creativity and a lot of perfecting! I have gone through several ideas, PVC frames and the like, I discovered that the bike rim is a durable frame to mount the cage on (I use gerbils, like to keep them alive) and when it is dropped from a car window, the spokes will flex to absorb some of the excruciating impact! The sandbags add extra weight, (a hawk dragging a trap is risking injury) and keep the trap from going into a -cont-

    Yeah my little weight balls on the sides is a little different from most peoples. Most people don't seem to have problems with the tire-design trap rolling when they drop it from their car window, I did one time and decided it needed the weights. So it is a little different and maybe over-engineered but it has worked for me.

    Grab the heaviest chin yu can find around and lock it on to the bike rim, its alot faster and easier to carry. Design works really well I have adusted it for birds from kestrels to ferruginous hawks. Works really well for trapping along roads as it's easy to throw out of the car

    For a redtailed hawk, 20-30 lb test with securely tied knots is sufficient. 25 being my favored because of how well the knots stay upright and in place without being sticky and without coming loose.

    People have used BC's with owls, but it's not to often that you find owls during the day, and it's pretty hard to find anything at night! Maybe if you knew where it roosted or hunted you could place it, but with the BC you must watch it at all times!

    Okay well your request is a little confusing but the way I made the cage out of wire mesh is shown in the video, just roll it into a cylinder and cut circles for the ends, crimp the wire to hold it and zip-ties for extra strength, this is 1/4" hardware cloth (wire mesh). Thanks for watching, hope that helps, if not, please rephrase your request a little clearer so I can help out better! Stay tuned!

    I personally don't believe it's about making one easier or faster. The build IMHO should be something you desire are passionate about. Falconry/Hawking is an art and your approach to it and all aspects should be the same. I would never buy a trap or borrow one from another Falconer. I truly enjoyed building my trap and and was amazed at how therapeutic Istanbul was to do so. Well done my friend.

    This is nothing compared to some of the traps I have seen others using. Some people get very particular when it comes to getting exactly the bird they want, foot size, talon size, coloration, weight, feather condition, etc. When you have to trap 10 birds before getting the one you want, a well-made well-engineered trap that will hold up and catch consistently is a good investment. My traps have since been modified with built-in cameras and new noose systems.

    You don't need a trap if you know how to call them in and gain their trust . I have 3 mated pairs now - summer and winter . I can now feed them all by hand . A trap can injure or kill them .

  • @FalconryTold
    @FalconryTold  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have never breeded falcons or eagles or hawks for that matter. However there are obviously a few common sense things to consider. An aviary, a nest area, your male and female bird, and you can choose from natural or artificial insemination, and then choose whether you will incubate the eggs or let the bird nest them, and then whether you will raise them or let the bird raise them. I would look into getting some good books on the topic!

  • @FalconryTold
    @FalconryTold  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    the falconer approaches it. This dragging thing seems harmful as it could easily drag it the wrong way into the road or what not. My trap is quite heavy and immovable. A heavy trap also means your nooses have a weighted base from which to pull. They spring shut faster this way. I am always experimenting, I may try a square trap, remodeled to the way I like it. Thanks for your input and if your trapping this year, good luck!

    hi. do you think that bal chatri would work on gosshawk?

  • @FalconryTold
    @FalconryTold  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I believe most eagles are trapped using large-scale bow-nets with a ground blind. Usually with a large animal or animal carcass. However some people have used pigeons, and I know one guy who caught an eagle with a pigeon harness. (Yes, crazy). But I think a large beefed up bal-chatri out in the midwest where eagles perch on power-lines could possibly work, but it would be hard. Make sure you have the proper licensing and permits for an eagle, hard to come by!

    Do you think you could also be able to put a wood board underneath the trap by skrewing it instead of putting those bags on? this way you could just pile dirt on it to weigh it down. It could also make it look like more of the environment. Remember: just an Idea. I might make a video on making a trap like yours so let me know if its a good idea or not :D

      I trapped hawks with this thing, but i'm still trying to figure out how I can use it to launch a new state-of-the-art mail delivery business. I am debating whether or not I should redo my design. I could trade out the four sand weights for quad-copter props, then I would simply fly the device right up to the hawk on the pole, while carrying newspapers beneath it on a remote control release device. Delivering mail and capturing passage red-tails at the same time, that's what I am talking about. Thanks for the comment.

      Simplicity is brilliant for sure, and there is more than one way to fish a creek! This trap works as I am sure your 12 by 16 snare trap works. Maybe I should make a new trap video with a more basic concept trap, I learned trap making by observing the falconers in my area. They put their heart and soul into everything, and that includes their traps, which are unbelievably nice. Mine are nothing in comparison, but they do work so I shared a DIY! Thanks for watching!

    Time put into falconry is never wasted. One is always learning. The neat thing about the wheel is it has spokes. The spokes flex to absorb impact which protects your bait a little bit more when dropped from a window. The sand weights also absorb shock, and keep the trap from flipping or sliding. They also keep it corrected in flight. I plan to put astro turf in the trap, along with noose extenders. I have a camera mounted on it now as well. I have seen too many birds dragging the trap along as..

    • @falconersapprentice9837
      @falconersapprentice9837 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Being as you are the first falconer to give me the advise of "Don't over think things" concerning Falconry, I find your comment to be slightly unsettling. Like they say, your bird is what you put into it. The wheel works great because it serves as a natural shock absorber and a great frame to place a BC on, as well a as a more sturdy and reliable substitute to tying a weight to a cage! (I used to do the whole weighted cage thing, and won't ever go back). I will do my best to keep my videos as simple as possible, but nothing I do is written on stone, and viewers can be free to make traps as they wish, I just had to share my idea! Thanks again for the advise, and I hope you stay tuned!

      Falconry is also an old tradition in Asia, like Mongolia for example. I regard it as best for any bird to live it's natural life. It's a choosing between this tradition of falconry and leaving birds in their natural environment. I understand that some people make another choice then I do. Such traps are illegal around here in Europe. All birds of prey are protected species here. Even trapping for research and releasing the birds afterwards is strictly regulated here in Belgium.

      This trap is not illegal in Europe though... Falconry is actually less regulated in Europe than it is in other countries.
