The 2020 Nissan Sentra is one of the Best Compact Sedan Values

  • I spend a week with the all-new 2020 Nissan Sentra in the SR Premium trim and come away really impressed. At only $24,600 for an SR Premium, the amount of features and luxury you get for the money is almost unbeatable. The interior design is my favorite in this class of vehicles as well. Then, once you add in the great driving dynamics and good looks, the Sentra easily becomes my favorite pick in the compact sedan segment. What do you think of the new 2020 Sentra?

      But I do find it amusing that the press seems to love the big C-pillars that block visibility and have no problem with the little plastic pieces on the exterior. A few years ago, the press dumped lots of criticism on Dodge because the Avenger had big C-pillars and plastic pieces outside, even though that thing had a 283 HP V-6! Oh well, times change.

    I think it's a great thing that Nissan hasn't changed their key fob yet. Don't fix what ain't broken. It's nice and compact, nicely weighted. Much better than Mazda's new chunky ass keyfob that is mostly holllow, has tiny buttons on the side of the fob, and is way too bulky. On the other hand, Kia's badass detonator key fob is the correct way to do a new and classy key fob.

    I have a 2012 Nissan Sentra S with over 196,000 miles on it. Never had an issue with the original CVT. I changed the fluid every 60,000 miles as required in the owner’s manual. Nissan is capable to be reliable as Toyota and Honda. You haters should learn how to read a manual and drive a car properly and you won’t have any problems long term.

    • @Tinrs80
      @Tinrs80 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      chrisgraydon I have posted on multiple reviews when the CVT comments come. ill say the same as you.. i owned a 2014-2017 & now a 2020 Altima with CVT. i had over 100,000 miles on them when i traded. never any issues on them and i did the Maintenance as the dealer said for fluid changes to the CVT. I know people have issues with CVTs but id like to know if they least did the maintenance as it was called for. Yes some was garbage but i think nissan wasnt the only brand in the early 2010s that had cvt issues.

Unfortunately, I may be saying bye bye to Nissan. Next compact will either be a 2020 Toyota Corolla SE (169HP) or a Mazda 3. Reliability A+ with Toyota. Mazda is the best looking car in its' class.

    Great review. Although you said it was a quiet ride, it seemed pretty noisy on the highway (road noise). I have rented a lot of cars in the past six months and hope to rent this one too to check out road noise on the horrible freeway pavements we have around here. The most recent cars were the 2020 Corolla sedan and the hatchback (rented twice) and they have terrible road noise once you get over 45 miles per hour. Would you say that the Sentra is quieter on highways than the Kia Forte?

    I really like the new Sentra, but I am a little biased since my family has owned almost every generation of Sentra since 1982. My 08 SE-R was a fun car as well, and I will wait a little for a new SE-R or Nismo Sentra. If I can’t wait, I would get one in their blue color with the quilted leather seats. Also MPG is much better on the lower trims due to the smaller 16 inch wheels.

    Those interiors are perfect. The NISMO theme and nomenclature need to be replaced by an SER; NISMO never felt appropriate for it. I still think Nissan can make a proper comeback if they make interiors this good and with more power.
    BUT, i still think the Civic is a better buy. It’s a 5 year old car and it’s still pretty much the best in class. Very decent interiors, with lots of clever use of space, nicely equipped, spacious, good power and great driving dynamics.

It just a matter of getting use to it I guess. I love my Altima though but this Sentra is looks as good too. I have to say the new Sentra does look nice. Interior is a step up from previous generations. I hate CVTs. Hate is not a strong enough word, lol, but I understand most cars in this class only have CVTs or a manual option. Manual is a great option if possible, but I can't get behind a CVT and I really struggle to get behind any Nissan's right now. I had a 2005 Nissan Altima SE-R (6 speed manual) and that was a GREAT car! But Nissan has gone straight down since those days. I prefer Hondas now. But great review as always. Go Hokies!😀

    In Canada, base Sentra can be had with 6MT. Base 6MT Civic cost $4800 more, weights 280lb less, has android-auto and heated front seat and mirrors. Judging from review, Sentra probably feels more refined then Civic for regular driving, but driven to the max on the STREET, base Civic (with 6MT) has as much attitude as Si or Type-R. However, still not enough to justify the massive price premium...unless Civic ends up being tuned for the Track.

    I agree with everything in this review!! You seem like you have more energy with these recent reviews which makes them exciting to watch!! I don't know if you have thought of this but I think you and Beth should try "vlog" style reviews where you have more of a POV perspective on the interior, and I personally enjoy more interactive reviews like those, instead of having a fixed camera and some B-roll. Its less work too! I like the way you did a Bullitt update one time as well where you held the camera, and I think if you did that for these by walking around the vehicle with a camera in your hand they would seem more personalized. You could also try having new thumb nails where you are holding the camera so the buyers know you are in the video walking around the vehicle. I don't know maybe this is all confusing but hey doesn't hurt to give it a try! Thanks for all you do.

      Thanks for the support Joe! I could try a vlog style, it just seems less polished and professional. I understand what you mean about it giving a more personal feel though and maybe it would switch things up more for those that are getting bored with the format. I'll give it some thought, thanks!

    remember 24,600 is MSRP! most Nissan Dealers mark down this car tremendously! so you can look at 21,22, or even 20 or even less for out the door price

    I really wish Nissan offered a turbo 4 in the Sentra along with a manual. it would let nissan take on some of the more performance oriented versions
    like the GLI Civic SI of the world.

    I know almost almost every car in this category is floating above 2900 lbs, that's a pretty hefty weight for the size but it's the norm now a days.

    Why spend $4,000 more for the Corolla or the Civic when you can get this with more features than those have,a nicer interior than those have?
    The answer is :Long term reliability,trade and resale value.

    I have a question about the 2020 Sentra. I bought mine last week and found that when I start the car and drive, the alarm for the seatbelt goes off for a minute if nobody is in the passenger seat. Took it to Nissan and they said that the seatbelt in the passenger seat needs to be buckled if nobody is in it. I find it a bit annoying. Nissan said it was the way they built the car. It's a bit annoying to always having to buckle the seat when nobody is in it. Has anyone else had this problem? I find it very odd.....

      That's not normal. This Sentra I drove never did that. It sounds like that dealer isn't very good and is lying to you, I'd try going to another one if you can.

      TheTrucker Ed Show well you're one stupid idiot if you can't except the fact that Jatco CVTs are cheaply made, badly designed transmissions, it's almost like they're designed to break no matter how well you take care of your car

    Nissan's CEO is not that asshole who was embezzling money and was caught. Carlos was also making sure to produce as many cars with the least amount of money spent making them. Hopefully the new transition will help the brand and quality.

    No way I’d go with a Sentra unless they give us a better engine/transmission combo. A 1.6t and 6MT would be good. Otherwise pass. Civic 1.5t, Forte 1.6t, Mazda 3 2.5L are all better options for me.

    Would you take a Sentra over the Corolla hatch?

    • @MattMaranMotoring
      @MattMaranMotoring  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'd say they're aimed at different buyers. The Corolla hatch has much less trunk space than the Sentra and the interior isn't as luxurious. Since I'm into sporty vehicles though, I'd definitely pick a manual Corolla hatch over the Sentra. For the average buyer, the Sentra is probably the better choice.
