    I picked up the EXACT same sub woofer from hard rubbish and, after I figured out it was originally part of a Logitec-only set, realised a separate plate amplifier might save it: I'll be following your steps to the letter (although I might respray the cabinet along the way). Thanks for this!

    Cool project! I recently got this same subwoofer for cheap at a thrift shop. While it works fine, I decided to turn it into a sealed subwoofer, to get more even frequency response, and a tighter sound. Tore out the port, added some foam padding to the interior walls, and covered the port hole with a piece of plywood. Sound much better than before!

    Outstanding repurposed subwoofer. I’ve done similar with an old Bose Acoustimass and a Polk subwoofer. These new inexpensive Chinese plate amps are great for projects such as this one.

    Thank you, Interesting build. I have one of these also but the sub channel stopped working (was down to a whisper. Tried to figure out what was wrong but have no idea so replacing the amp seems like a great idea, make it blue tooth also. Any reason not to rebuild a bigger speaker box and put everything into one rather than using the original sub box?
    Interesting to see the comments about the original satellite speakers not being up to par.

      I guess you might have a dead chip on the amp just like I did. That's why I got this sub for real cheap. Though I decided to go with a 2.1 Bluetooth amp to be able to connect a pair of speakers as well. Personally I don't see a point of rebuilding the sub enclosure since it has a great and compact design. It could use new paint or veneer on the outside though.

    I have a old THX logitech 5.1 and its still working. I tried upgrading to the newer version of sub with controller but they removed the extra line in, so I went back to the old system. Mostly because they downgraded the subwoofer design. Paying more for less sound quality was the products Logitech was making before they left Fremont to Newark.

    my Z636 Logitech sub has a RCA L/R aux input on the back. Could I theoretically use a Y splitter to connect to the L and R aux input on the back of the sub and then run to the LFE output on a receiver and use this sub for home theatre use? Just disable the speakers by unhooking the negative wire on each internally yet still use the volume control on them. This way the LFE signal is only being output by the subwoofer. Do you suppose this would work?

    I have a set of Z2300's, and I'd like to say that this is a cool mod. However, a few things I wanted to say:
    1: You're replacing a Class AB amplifier with a Class D amplifier. The sound is going to have MUCH different characteristics. I get that it is cheaper to get a Class D amp to mod it, but I would have personally found it cheaper, easier, and better to replace the parts that broke on the old amplifier.
    2: MDF is a great and cheap material, but if you ever planned on using it for a while (Which I assume you aren't), I would have used a harder and real wood.
    Other than that, awesome build! Creative repurposing of an old sub that still kicks like no tomorrow.

    • @DonnyTerek
      @DonnyTerek  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thank you! Really appreciate your input on this build.
      1. Since the amp was burnt and it didn't come with the wired remote control, it was a lot easier to just replace the amp with something different that would also allow me to make it into a 2.1 system.
      2. Actually a lot of speakers are built out of MDF, even the Logitech sub boxes themselves.

    • @endall39
      @endall39 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DonnyTerek 1. I’m very familiar with this sub and amp, and I would bet that class D is putting out more than twice the clean power of that cheap A/B, especially with a 24v 8 amp power supply. 2. I agree with the use of MDF, but I though it should be thicker for such a large panel. I’m thinking it will flex a bit.

    Hi, I've got a fully working Z-2300 I've had for 16 years. I'm planning to do this too. My question is I've got 25w 6 ohm bookshelf speakers. Ill be using a 9.2a 24v adapter. Is the sub 8ohm? The amp spec shows it runs 100w at 2ohm on the sub. How much difference is there compared to the stock power output of the sub on the stock amp? And would 25w 6ohm speakers work well? Thanks

    • @DonnyTerek
      @DonnyTerek  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi!
      The sub of the Z-2300 is 8 Ohm as I remember. I wasn't actually able to test the difference since my stock amplifier was blown, haha. The amp supports 4-8 Ohm speakers so you should be good using the 6 Ohms. I would write to the guys at Arylic, I'm sure they will provide you more accurate info on the amp.
      Hope this helps.

    I don't think you need to worry about using a 200 watt power supply, because cheap amps made in China are advertised with fake watts, rather than real watts. A real 200 watts/channel is freakin LOUD! Only the higher end companies give accurate specs. The mass market receiver companies all make ridiculous wattage claims. When they claim "170 watts/ch", they really mean 25-30 watts/channel and current limited. The project boards tend to exaggerate even more so. However, Logitech also grossly over rates their power output, so the comparison should be somewhat relitive.
