    "Limitless paper in a paperless world" actually makes sense.
    The ad shows different ways paper delivers many meaningful, life-changing messages, so paper is limitless because you can use it for any thing that really matter, and Dunder Mifflin provides you with as much paper as you need. That paper is used for things that really matter, is a concept that Michael explained in the university lesson.
    Paperless world refers to the digitalisation that makes messages faster but more abstract and less important. Michael was probably thinking about Ryan's speeches about the website, powerpoint, blackberry and technology.
    What makes this line so good is that it is based on the experience of Michael.
    I think it's actually the best pay-off for a paper company in today's world.

I'm shocked by Michael's cut at the end of this episode and I got tears in my eyes and clap for this scene. Those transitions and Pam's animation are so awesome with the Chariots of Fire music, and it seems everyone in the room is truly happy with the result. It's totally unexpected based on what he did in the producing period. Michael is exactly the world's most creative boss. 5/5 star rates for this episode.

    This is one of my favorite episodes, because it plays on your expectations and prior knowledge of Michael to make you think his ad will be horrible and/or stroking his ego the whole time. His reactions and mannerisms around Ryan and the film crew, as well as how he behaves with his employees during filming, even reinforce your preconceived notions. And then at the end, it subverts you’re expectations by having the ad be unironically great (If a bit amateur). Such a clever and underrated episode.

      EXCEPT: it IS an ego stroke. Expectation becomes reality. The very final piece of paper that he hangs up is a paper that says “world’s most creative boss,” and that single premise is the ENTIRE reason why he wants to do the ad. Because he NEEDS people to believe that he is as creative as he thinks he is. And in office fashion, they use his employees to uplift him in the end. They put in effort to make it good, it’s not just his direction.

      @@rafaynadeem3991 it shows how much Michael understand the matters of the paper business. He knew that the strength of his branch was on the personal management of their customers, and he knew that they would eventually become obsolette and that they would need to adapt to the incoming paperless future.
      This makes me think that Michael as a director with an assistant like Jim to filter his bad ideas wouldn't be bad at all.

    • @UndertakerU2ber
      @UndertakerU2ber 4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Yeah, I think that's what they were going for by playing off Michael's trait of coming up with ideas that seem good, but are completely terrible when you understand the context/implications (ex: Michael makes an online profile called "Child Lover" to seem like a good father figure).
      I'm sure the joke from the line was that Dunder Mifflin's company would be redundant since no one needs paper in a paperless world, but another way I interpreted the line was that he's marketing the company as an organization that can supply an important office supply that's being forgotten in the workplace. I recall one story in real life where a company stored their procedures for managing a power outage on their computer network, so when a power outage did occur, they couldn't access the procedures because the power outage rendered their computers unusable and no one bothered to print them out on paper.
      I'm pretty sure I'm overthinking it, but if the line wasn't meant to be ironic, the aforementioned situation was something I think Michael Scott was intending to address with that slogan at the end.

    I think that this part of the series is intend to criticize how superficial and heartless the corporate business of doing ads is. When Michael says *"Limitless paper, in a paperless world"* , what the series is really trying to say is _"here you can express yourself and love others as much as you'd like, because in the outside people wouldn't care about how you feel - they're just too much preocuppied with the digital: the paperless, the emotionless."_
    edit: That's why I love the series so much: it's like a message for all of us who find refugee only in the laughs and the crying of the sitcoms (or other genres, that can apply too).

    • @Brizandeer

      I feel like this is the first time I saw a paperless world in a negative light. Michael really explained how paperless communication is so effortless and available that the communications lose value, whereas limitless paper refers to how important messages of any kind can still be transmitted by paper. It’s really a great ad and I would love to see a professional adaptation of this ad by a real paper company!

    • @deadaccount2048
      @deadaccount2048 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s great because it refers to all the speeches and presentations Ryan made: from him predicting the decline of Dunder Mifflin to it becoming a younger company, and also refers to digital things he introduced (such as Dunder Mifflin Infinity and the blackberry communication system). He refers to how the world is becoming much more digitalised and paperless, but all the heartwarming and meaningful messages in life are sent using paper, and that Dunder Mifflin sells limitless paper, limitless messages and limitless opportunities!
