    I’m also all in on Matt Boyd or Nick Martinez as pitcher depth. Boyd’s peripherals looked good with Cleveland.

    Make trade for Crochet or Gray, sign Eovald or Martinez (2 way guys for later in playoffs if need be), sign reclamation project / AA special Beeber or someone else. 1.Sale, 2.Lopez, 3.Crochet/Grey, 4.Eovaldi/Martinez, 5.Schwellenbach, 6. Beeber/? Later in year Strider but not putting anything on him for this year so whatever we get we get

    Yusei Kikuchi would be a good option at his $15ish million projected price. He was a 4.75 ERA, 3.66 FIP, 3.43 xFIP starter with the Blue Jays, and though his ERA wasn't the greatest, his FIP and xFIP were very solid. But then once going to the Astros his ERA fell down to a 2.70 ERA, along with his 3.07 FIP, and 2.74 xFIP which dropped clear down as well. Not only that strikeout rate went from 25.9% with the Jays to 28.0% with the Astros, pretty much everything got better with the Astros, and that's largely due to his Slider usage that went from 16.8% with the Jays to 37.0% with the Astros, as his slider was one of the better pitches he throws. I'm sure that's something that the Braves would do to him, elevating his slider usage, while lowering his fastball usages, which even made his fastball far more effective with the Astros compared to the Jays.

      We noted it, but he tied for 25th in fWAR among SP the last two seasons combined. Very good pitcher.

    Eovaldi makes a ton of sense and I've come around on Kikuchi and Buehler. Bieber doesn't make sense for the Braves with Strider being delayed to start the year.

    Eric Cole’s favorite Son Michael is also a free agent. Personally I’d really like to see a reunion in Atlanta

      He'll probably pop up on the reliever-focused FA show. That's how most teams are viewing him now.

    If Braves need two SP, maybe Eovaldi and a trade? Or add Buehler?

    Only thing is Martinez has QO attached too

      Exactly, Martinez isn't worth it as he'd cost you 2 draft picks.

    There is no way they're getting 2 starting pitchers from here on out. I mean if you went out and got 2, and you made it a month or so into the season and Striders ready to come back, are you telling us they're just going to DFA a pitcher once Strider comes back? That's what they're going to have to do, and if you get a pitcher that's cheap enough that doing that isn't a big deal, then he's likely to be no better if not worse than some of the options the Braves currently have. Braves currently have Grant Holmes, Griffin Canning, Ian Anderson, AJ Smith-Shawver, Hurston Waldrep, Bryce Elder, Huascar Ynoa, Royber Salinas, Drue Hackenberg, and Lucas Brawn, that's 10 reasons why getting 2 doesn't make sense, as all you only need 1 of the 10 to be a quality number 5 starter till Striders ready. That's a far better selection of starting depth to start the season than they've had in years.

      Surplus is the goal. As David Sampson said it takes 7 pitching prospects to make a good starter.

    • @HammerTerritory
      @HammerTerritory  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Yeah I’d recommend that you stop thinking about just needing to get to 5. We’ve seen repeatedly that’s not the goal.
      They had Fried and Morton make 59 combined starts last season and still needed 13 starters over the course of the year.
      Most of the depth names listed here are guys they are not eager to start right now.
      If you want to say Canning could be one of the two outside additions along with a high-end guy like Eovaldi, then sure I guess. We’ve noted that it’s logical they may see something there or they didn’t have to take him.
      Also, why would they be DFA’ing a pitcher? lol

      @@HammerTerritory I think you better recount, because on top of the ones I listed, plus Sale, Lopez, Schwellenbach, Strider, and another signee, that would put the team up to 15 starters. Of those 10 listed before, 4 of them have career FIP/xFIP's that are around league average or better in Ynoa, Anderson, Elder, and Holmes, 1 of them in Canning has a slightly worse than league average FIP and xFIP but has the most innings of the bunch, and 5 others are unproven prospects, 2 or which have seen major league time, but they all have better stuff than guys like Darius Vines, Allan Winans, even Bryce Elder who've they used in the recent past. 10 guys, and all you need is 1 to be solid at the back of the rotation for the time being. So if you get 2 pitchers that you stated they need for the rotation, that would be your 2 guys plus Sale, Schwellenbach, and Lopez to start the year. But then Strider comes back up in say in the middle of May, you now have to send someone down, so either you send 1 of the 2 guys you just signed, or you send Schwellenbach down as he is the only one that has minor league options. Do you not see the DFA scenario? Because the likelihood of the Braves finding an available pitcher with minor league options, that's going to be better than all 10 of the guys I listed above is probably hard to come by, thus you're signing 2 guys that don't have options, and one has to be DFA'd once Strider comes back.
