Saucony surely went Hoka-ish with the new Guide 17 but I feel like Hoka went Saucony-ish on these 😂. The lateral cutout of the endorphin elite and the winged plate from the ES3!
Finally a company puts their cutout on the lateral side, instead of the medial. Weight difference between the left/right is concerning. Would love to have seen the inner heel collar cushioning to either connect or come closer together to help heel lift for a wider audience. Let's hope Hoka can shed some weight from the shoe for V2. Weight matters, never was overly concerned with it before, but after analyzing A LOT of my AlphaFly V1, V2, V3 and Tempo Next% runs recently it's shown just how important weight can be. And now I'm really temped to try my first VaporFly... 3 classic runs types is a solid testing protocol before racing in a shoe, unless you clearly know how the shoe performs already. I was literally just thinking on my 12k run in my Boston 12s which I love "Is the Adidas Adios Pro 3 Just Boston 12 with the volume turned up?" B12s are my first Addidas and favourite long run/workout shoe so if Yes I will buy AP3 in a heartbeat
The AP3 are perfect minus the short laces and squished toes. Fast, light awesome shoe otherwise though. The AlphaFly 2's were my go to race shoe then I switched to the Adios Pro 3's.
A good criteria is "# of hours on feet". To cater for various marathoner speeds, the total number of hours you could manage to run in them is a useful stat to figure out what's the right cutoff pace should be.
Thing about Hoka is, how long will that loving feeling last? Their shoes tend to go flat fast but this is a new beast for them w super foam and carbon plate. I can’t wait to see reviews of it six months from now.

I love the Rocket X 2 planning on doing all my racing this year (3 HM) in that shoe, based on your initial review of the Cielo not convinced there’s a good reason to switch. As always reviews are spot on. I’m all to familiar with Charlotte my in-laws live there.
I haven't tried the rocket x2 but I envision them keeping that as their "traditional" racer like what we see in the Vaporfly, endorphin pro 3 and then this is this is their experimental/aggressive/expensive option like the Alphafly and endorphin elite
Just purchased a pair for my first marathon, ive the Mizuno wave rebellion pro 2s that i was intending on using but thats a very very fast shoe and not sure if I could run a marathon in them. Great review earned a sub 👍
I did my first run in Cielo X 1 today. 21 miles LSD, but a little bit spicier than usual for LSD. I’ll say this: mile 21 felt just like mile 1. I’m eager to put them “through the gears” before I do my video.
That's awesome to hear. I ended up using a different shoe for my long today but looking forward to trying them soon - they were amazing for some threshold work I did earlier this week too
Had a sweet gum ball stuck in my endorphin elite after my 20 miler at ATT last week. That rock looked more like Umstead material. Haha. Gotta love running in the triangle!
I have wide feet and Hoka is a problem.. How does the width compare to the Endorphin Speed 3 ? Do you take same size in Saucony and Hoka? Mach 5 toebox was to narrow for me..
This was much better fit for me than the Pro 3. A lot more room in the toe box - super comfortable all around. Also I actually went down half a size in the Mach 5 (needed a new shoe on a vacation and that's all they had) and it fit okay. So hokas tend to be roomy enough for me in general
good shout of advice on the laces.., not that its a deal breaker.., but it does ruin a run, when you are cruising. I keep my cars stock as well, stock is coming back

A long run in the 18-20mi area shows what the shoe is gonna be like when the foams get hot and how well it breathes if the structure causes hot spots as the cushioning changes..most problems show up in the last 6mi of a marathon same as it does with the runners,hydration and fueling..it will have to be awesome to beat the rocket x2..
Just tried these and the SC Elite v4 on. First impressions is the SC Elite is still a bit on the mushy side. These felt pretty impressive though midsole-wise. The geometry reminded me of the Wave Rebellion Pro, but the feel of the midsole height and lots of bounce and softness but with a bit more of a dense feel they reminded me of the Prime X Strung a lot. They're way more stable than either shoe though and race legal unlike the Prime X (and feel a bit more directed) but the midsole feels more soft and bouncy than the Wave Rebellion Pro.
@@cameronthaijohnson the foam in the Rebellion Pro 2 is definitely softer than version 1. It gives more of a vertical pop and the rocker feels even more pronounced.

That shoe looks really tempting to get but that $275 is definitely slightly deterring. And that weight difference between left and right shoes would drive me crazy! Lol constantly check the size too see if they're the same, more material, etc
your audio output seems to have a lower volume than other video's, you might wanna fix it, because I have to raise the volume quite a lot everytime I watch yours. cheers!
If you like this shoe, youd probably also like new balance sc elite v4. I feel theyre going to be similar. Im currently using sc elite v4 so far loving it. BTW, i believe its pronounced as Sye-Lo and ot See-low
Crap, another pair of shoes I don't need that I'll end up getting. The bottoms are semi reminiscent of the Adios Pro 3's. Laces seem 💩y, same as AP3 as well, major deal breaker.
This is designed to be much bouncier and faster than the Mach X, which is designed to be a hybrid everyday running and speed training shoe. So this is definitely a good option for your marathon if you want something faster. Mach X will likely be a little more stable which can be better if you're finishing 3:30+ - but this is much faster
Two runs in and so far I absolutely love them. I haven't gone more than an hour in them though, so I can't endorse just yet - since they are a marathon shoe I need to test over 2+ hours. I am planning to do a 20 or 22 mile long run in them within the next week and will report back after that! Stay tuned 💪🏽

Hahaha yeah if I could flip the coffee scale to the 'Merican system I would. But the conversion for these was - Vaporfly, Alphafly, Pro 3 were 7 ounce range and the hoka was 9 ounce range 😳

I bought that cielo rd for my grandson last year. The flimsy heel rubbed blisters on his Achilles area and had to return them..

Maybe a good testing format for race shoes would be 1) familiarization run, 2) workout, 3) long run, and 4) an actual race if possible.
Love this idea. Maybe for the race component since I can't race every week it can be something like a 5k/10k/half marathon time trial

Have you run in the Wavr Rebellion Pro 2 yet? MUCH different than the Rebellion Pro v1.
