    Totally agree with you on this one! Might not bother with a review myself you did such a good job- keep smashing it bro! I struggled for a good 5 minutes to get these undone last night, cold hands and these laces almost got the better of me x

      These laces are on point! So many reviews are going against which is fair as that’s their opinion. I have to say though Ben, it’s always great getting this kind of feedback from you! And also… you’re lucky you put out the Seville vlog because I was about lodge a complaint about the infrequent videos with the government. You’re safe for now

    So, I couldn't resist and got the Cielo X1 in this Cerise colorway and it really is awesome. It's like the Prime X Strung (both v1 and v2 meshed up together) and Alphafly 3 had a baby together. Haha. It definitely has its own thing going but it's in that category of hyper-propulsive mega-stack supershoes that catapult you forward while being very comfortable and protective. I received it yesterday and immediately took it out on a 10-mile run and I was very impressed although it took a few miles before I was able to pick up the pace after the warmup and also find the sweet spot for the foot strikes.
    It really started coming alive when I took it up to 7:00/mile (4:20/km) pace and was singing at 6:30/mile (4:03/km) and faster paces. I took it on a 15-miler today and did around 8 miles in the middle at average of around 6:30/mile with some short segments at 5:30/mile (3:25/km) and the ride was exhilarating. This is the first shoe I've felt that matches up to the Prime X Strung in terms of bounce, propulsion, comfort, ease (keeping the HR down), and the all-important fun-and-excitement factor. The Alphafly 3 is definitely up there but, to me, it's a no-frills all-out serious race shoe and isn't as fun. The AF3 is all about the PB on race day and scattered serious training sessions.
    The Cielo X1 is super fun at almost all paces and I wouldn't have any qualms about running a full marathon with it. It has the fun factor of the PXS but is much more stable, so I can run carefree and enjoy the scenery more instead of always being mindful about potholes, cambered surfaces, going fast downhill, and turning corners. For the last 3~4 miles today, I ran at an easy pace of around 9:00/mile (around 5:35/km) and the Cielo X1 still felt really good and kept my legs churning although I was fatigued by then after the long threshold effort.
    I can't say that the Cielo X1 has dethroned the PXS v1 from the top of my list, but it has definitely nudged up to #2 ahead of the Alphafly 3 and Prime X 2 Strung. I'll probably still pick the AF3 for a HM or FM race due to its lighter weight (it's 1.3 ounces or 37 grams lighter than the Cielo X1 and that's significant), but I'm not so sure now. I'll just have to go back and forth between the two over the next several months before the fall marathon season.
    The Cerise colorway looks really good although I'm generally a white colorway guy with some black versions of my favorites for the occasional rainy days. I really like how it looks although I hope that Hoka will come out with a "boring" white version eventually. Haha. For those who liked the feel and ride of the PXS v1 but couldn't deal with the stability issue, I highly recommend the Cielo X1. The weight is approximately the same as the PXS v1 but is lower to the ground, more stable, and more nimble when turning corners. I also think it's a little more "explosive" on the toe-offs. The Cielo X1 is a revelation - a shoe I did not see coming from Hoka. Hoka really hit it out of the park with this shoe. Yes, it really is a BEAST!

    I love this take and fully agree with you about the weight. At least for runners like us, this weight is fine. It still weighs less than a lot of shoes people will gladly do 20 mile long runs in. It matters, sure, but maybe not as much as people make it out to be.
    Also, epic colourway and nicely matched t-shirt, to boot!

    Been waiting for this one!! Totally agree with your points. The weight? Don't feel it. PR'd my 5K first run with these pups, not even going full gas. The laces? Double knot them and they're the most secure in the world due to the texture. The weird blue/green colorway? When you're going fast no one can even see your shoes bro so who cares, fast is hot. As of now, these will be the shoes I wear for my 10K race goal this year. I am interested in the Asics Metaspeed Sky Paris coming soon - but really, no complaints about these Cielo X1s. Love your honesty Aubrey. Looking forward to comparing our 100K results with the X1. So far the durability of this outsole looks money but yeah...the exposed parts do take some damage.
    Also, that tongue is most definitely annoying. I have to carefully flatten it out like I"m making my bed 😂 else I get hotspots above my metatarsals.

    I'm with you! I kept trying to figure out why everyone hates the laces but I ended up loving them. I'm a 205 pound old guy and I absolutely love these shoes. I run a barely sub 2 hour half marathon and these are perfect for my training. I also have the same complaint about the tongue--It takes me a minute or so when I lace them up to get the tongue just right so it doesn't make any hot spots when I run.

    Great Review Aubrey. Often enough these 'Sho-engineers' often overlook the practical parts of the shoe which clearly hold the most critical part in maintaining performance. The shoe and the laces. So glad you ALWAYS point that out when it comes to every shoe review that you've done.

    This year I ran the Barcelona ironman in the Cielo. I find it more stable than the Rocket X2, which I used last year. I agree with most of what you say although I can't comment on the laces; as a triathlete I swapped them for elastic laces as soon as I got them out the box, I never even tried to put them on with the original laces. the weight doesn't bother me, I think it's compensated for by the extra energy return.
    I agree with you on the tongue, but to be honest I found I got used to that after a couple of runs and just don't pull it too hard. The cielo is way easier to get on than the same sized Rocket X2, it has a bit more volume for the same length, i.e. its a touch wider and higher; but also the tongue/gusset on the Rockets X2 just seems a lot more 'sticky'. I think the Cielo saved me at least 30 seconds in T2 :)
    Price, yeah, not cheap, but compared with the rest of the cost of an ironman, it's not a big percentage.
    So far that only carbon shoes I've even tried are the Hoka's, I should really have a go with some of the others, but as I've said to a couple of people, I don't care how fast they are, just look at them! :)
    Finally, I'm not a runner to be honest; I'm a swim/cyclist who has to run at the end to get the tshirt and medal :)

    I really appreciate hearing how a shoe might perform for us heavier runners. And I think the shoe weight question will also vary based on the weight of the runner. If you have a lot of muscle on strong, heavy legs then the weight of the shoe relative to the weight of your leg might be less noticeable.

    Good review 👏. I’ve recently sourced this shoe (£212 with discount). It doesn’t feel heavy in hand and feels incredible to run in - given the amount of foam and outsole coverage it isn’t a heavy shoe. A whopping 30 grams heavier than my Hoka Rx2! Mine measures 50mm of stack mid foot area 😮😂

    I haven't tried these, but comparing them to the PX2S makes it sound more like a fun daily trainer / long run shoe for bigger dudes. That's how I use the PX2S. I don't think of it like a race shoe, though it can certainly do that.

    I'm not a Hoka fan but I'm intrigued by this shoe and am willing to give it a try. I'm a huge Adidas Adizero fan and have multiple pairs of the PXS and PX2S and a pair each of the AP3, TS8, TS9, Boston 12, and Adios 8. Love them all and, to me, it comes down to the feel and ride of the Lightstrike Pro midsole. I also love NB FuelCell shoes like the new SC Elite v4, the SC Elite v3, SC Trainer v1 and v2, and the Rebel v3 (have v4 on the way) for a squishier feel and ride. For me, the Hoka shoes I've tried have tended to be too narrow in the toe box and the feel and ride of them just haven't felt as good as the Adizero and NB FuelCell shoes. Ditto for ASICS and Saucony shoes although I do like the feel and ride of some of the Puma shoes very much although they also tend to run a bit narrow.
    I've been reading and seeing reviews comparing the Cielo X1 to the Prime X Strung, which is my all-time favorite running shoe with the v2 not far behind, so that got my attention. I also love the Alphafly 3, which the Cielo X1 is also being compared to favorably. Do I need another expensive running shoe that is like the PXS (v1 and v2), the AF3, and SC Elite v4? No, I definitely don't, but I do want. Haha. I love shoes that propel me forward, protect the legs and feet, and keep the long runs (10~20 miles) fun and exciting. Cielo X1 seems like it is more accommodating in fit and has the feel and ride I'm looking for in long runs.
    It seems I'll give the Cielo X1 a try eventually, but I'll wait to see what other colorways Hoka comes out with. Personally, I'm just not a fan of flashy, colorful, and busy-looking shoes. Still, very intrigued and I look forward to running in the Cielo X1. It seems like it's right up my alley for the types of runs I do on a regular basis. My mpw average is 90 and on weeks I feel good, I'll hit 110.

    You gotta remember that the majority of runners who review shoes might weigh as much as a 12 year old child. They are extremely thin with very little muscle mass. Therefore , any shoe over 8oz feels like bricks to them. Weight is really not of any importance as long as it's distributed properly. Example the asics kinsei max. It comes in over 11.5oz but feels and rides like a shoe that is significantly lighter.

    • @AubreyRunning
      @AubreyRunning  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Additionally the speed that someone runs at is also a driving factor… with me and my paces, weight is not as much a factor for faster runners

  • @therapygrind
    @therapygrind 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    What's really amazing about you is how in wearing that shoe your 10K London Winter run performance declined by 16% from the previous year, yet you're not expressing the slightest hint of disappoint whatsoever. I could not do that, in fact I would be cursing the shoe and then either burning it or donating it to the circus (where it might belong). Look that shoe in the eye and say, "It's not you, it's me"...and go your separate ways. Breaking up is hard to do but you and that shoe are not meant to be... 6:35 min/K? oh hell no.

    • @AubreyRunning
      @AubreyRunning  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think that would be a fair comparison only of if I was running the race as an actual race. Then yes I would be saying that sir. Except the run was my first one back after my spinal injury. It was a fun run with Fordy Run and I was literally stopping to film each street act.
      I get your point though but let me assure, the next time I bite down and actually race… this shoe won’t be a drawback at all. It feels like I have found my soul mate 😂😂😂

    • @therapygrind
      @therapygrind 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AubreyRunning yeah I know, just yanking your chain a bit since you're now running royalty on these internet streets, have you ever considered how plated bounce / rocker super shoe use may have contributed to your spinal injury? There is no shortage of podiatrists, physical therapists, and runners reporting lower back and spinal issues, potentially correlated with using carbon-plated shoes.

    I'm really confused with this offering from Hoka? I just don't understand why people would use it over the Alphafly 3 or Adidas Adizero Pro 3 for example? I appreciate the Alphafly is a marmite shoe, but there seem to be better offerings for marathon distance from other brands that are lighter and probably faster, even looking at the Rocket X2 for example. Like you I love a fat max shoe so maybe I need to get my ass into my local running store to try it on and see how it feels. Cheers for the review though champ 👌

    • @woshihuo
      @woshihuo 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Very simple answer. We all have different feet shapes. The alpha3 may be too tight for folks with wider feet. The cielo x1 is wide enough to accommodate these folks.

    • @woshihuo
      @woshihuo 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I own the adios pro 3 and recently bought cielo x1. The cielo x1 has a more aggressive rocker and feels even more bouncy and propulsive. The adios pro 3 is lighter. Still undecided which is better.

    • @paulmulks
      @paulmulks 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I appreciate we are all different hence why I said about the Alphafly not working for everyone. My main issue with this shoe is its size and weight compared to others on offer. I also own the Adizero Pro 3 and think it's an amazing shoe! I'd like to try the Hoka on to see what it feels like though 👍🏻

      The compression and rebound of these are so much better than the Adios pro 3, can't see myself ever putting them back on. They are 30g heavier but I literally don't notice as the ride is so much better than the pro 3 and they end up feeling more responsive and give back more than the pro 3 anyway.
