    Honestly id say fighting on the inside AND slipping is the most difficult aspect of boxing imo. It takes the longest to master

    At last, someone saying exactly what I always say. There's so many people who try to imitate Tyson, as opposed to learning to box properly. Whether that's the Cus D'Amato system, or another way of boxing. I've been in the ring with so many Tyson wannabe's, *imitating* Tyson. They can't keep it going, because they're so preoccupied on looking like Tyson. They tire quick, then you can take them apart.

    Great videos!! Seems to be my experience over 50 years has shown me that this style is the hardest because if you do not condition the body extremely well you can not perform the style properly throughout a fight. This style is for the most serious of boxers. Again great tools you are showing and sharing. Thank you!!

    Appreciate you. 🥊. Only 4 weeks into boxing basics. Gearing towards peekaboo. I plan to keep my head down and practice and not look up until a year from now! 😤

    Hey Carter you look like a great trainer and you look like you have a lot of knowledge but one thing you told the kid to do was back up when he got close to you Mike was told forward never backwards. So you would never see him backing up and slipping punches from Teddy he was always going towards them never back up. I'm not a boxer but I know a lot of what this style is and one thing they did say was forward never backwards that's why Mike was always the aggressor you never saw him going backwards

    • @peekabooboxingacademy
      @peekabooboxingacademy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Good observation. Yes, Cus’s style is primarily a “come forward” style. That being said though, you still need to learn backwards footwork for the purpose of balance. Additionally, this fighter is only doing jabbing and slipping in his sparring, and one of his problems has been that he gets too close when he’s jabbing. So when I’m telling him to manage his distance, that’s what I’m referring to.
      One last thing - one of my mentors who was trained by Cus and Teddy used backwards footwork. His idol was Larry Holmes. Not everyone in the gym fought the same. They were all taught Cus’s style, but some of them were boxers, some came forward more, some utilized angles more, etc. Not all of them fought like Mike and neither does someone who learns Cus’s style need to. In fact, if you were to try to copy Mike, you’d just become a poor man’s version of Mike.
      It’s best to learn the style as it was taught and then fight to your strengths.

      @@peekabooboxingacademy hey thanks for the reply you seemed to be a great Trainor I'm an older guy now otherwise I would like to come up there once in awhile and learn I'm about 2 hours away but I'm friends with Bobby Stewart the guy who brought Mike Tyson to cuss. So I may be up there at some point so I'd like to meet you you seem like you know a lot your videos are great I just made some comments on things that I know like the other video about Mike losing to Buster Douglas only because I did a lot of research and I heard Bobby Brown say it for himself that he kept telling Mike to go to sleep but Mike said I'm a grown man I will go to bed if I need to

    Ive only been boxing for a few months doing the basics. Should the fundamentals taught at an average gym be the focus for awhilebefore starting to learn Peak a boo? Or should you learn its form as early as possible? Im 5'7 and interested in learning the cus style at a weight class heavy compared to the average person at my height

    • @peekabooboxingacademy
      @peekabooboxingacademy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you want to learn the Cus style it’s best you learn it from day one and practice it properly to mastery. You can’t have one foot in and one foot out - there’s a lot to it and everything has to be practiced to perfection.
