4:10 wow, that was a lot of wheel slip there. I can personally say that this engine has one of my favorite whistles. I like those low pitch 5-6 chime passenger whistles.

Great Video! I live right next door to the NCRY and always come out when 2472 is there. The whistle is so soothing. I think it is an SP 6-chime. I love this railroad! It is worth your time to come on out!
Southern Pacific Pacific class locomotive 2472 was build in January 1921 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Eddystone, Pennsylvania for the Southern Pacific Railroad.
2472 is a really handsome locomotive, ploughing through some wonderful scenery. I particularly enjoyed the 'run-past'. A very enjoyable video, many thanks.
FANTASTIC VIDEO. I have loved steam locomotives ever sense I was a child, and that's been longer ago than I care to think about. Keep up the great work you're doing.
There is something about 2472's 6 chime that makes me have goose bumps, When I hear it coming around that corner. It gets me every time, 2472 sounds like a thunder storm challenging through the night with her rods clanking to the chuffs. plus I miss when they used Steam and Diesel locomotives at the same time.
The less smoke, the cleaner it's running. Dark smoke is usually the sign of the engine not being fired correctly. The fireman can also throw sand in the firebox to clean the flues, that might also account for the smoke
Great heritage railroad. Love the truss bridge over the river a d road. Wish Canada had more heritage railroads around. We got some small ones on Ontario but nothing compared to what you guys have in the USA.
No the Golden Gate Railroad Museum owns 2472 while the Pacific Locomotive Association who owns the Niles Canyon Railway owns the 2467. It's unlikely that the latter will run again for a while as she has some mechanical issues and it's just not logistical to run her in the canyon when they have smaller operating engines like Quincy 2 and Robert Dollar 3 which are both 2-6-2Ts.

It's OK BUT I prefer a Nathan five chime. It just sounds so proud and attention grabbing.
Does too much throttle make that happen or what causes it? I'm curious, and don't know much about steam locomotives

At 4:08 the locomotive wheels lips.

Southern Pacific 6 chime whistle?
No it’s a Nine chime whistle
I wish Caltrain would use it again. One can dream.
You know what they say. DONT LET YOUR DREAMS BECOME FANTASIES.
I cannot believe how little smoke this train has coming from its stack!
It’s the sign of a good fireman.
The less smoke, the cleaner it's running. Dark smoke is usually the sign of the engine not being fired correctly. The fireman can also throw sand in the firebox to clean the flues, that might also account for the smoke

Did this locomotive ever burn coal and if it didn't has it always burned oil and will this engine ever run again?

Great heritage railroad. Love the truss bridge over the river a d road. Wish Canada had more heritage railroads around. We got some small ones on Ontario but nothing compared to what you guys have in the USA.
Why 2472 has a wooden smoke stack?
It’s metal not wood

What engine? jointedRail's SP 4-10-2?
I think
How did 2472 get retired
SP replaced their steam locomotives with diesels by the late 1950’s.
