  • All aboard! Come along for a look at several steam trains running in the western United States! Steam Trains Galore is a 28 minute long video that features numerous shots of all sorts of different steam trains. You will see everything from small park trains to the big steam trains that make occasional runs on the main line today. This video is not narrated and there are no captions on any of the video clips, so if there are any questions about where some of these videos were filmed, I'd be happy to answer them. I'm trying to increase the variety of videos I have on my page, so this video is geared towards a more general audience. This is to get a better sense as to what types of videos are the most popular. If this is well received, I will post more like it in the future. So, that said, please leave feedback. Thank you!

Ah, the romance of steam...there is nothing like it. thanks so much, I adore these trains and I rode in them when I was a child and later on, into my thirties...up three deep steps and into the car, corridor, compartments, restaurant car with great food somehow cooked in tiny cramped kitchens, bar car and congenial company and the thought of the seats in the compartments being turned into beds for the night as one eats yet another fine meal in the evening, then lulled by the rocking of the car and tucked in for the night, slumbers away until dawn. What do we have now? Fast, faster and fastest and all the pleasure gone.

Couldn't afford it but the introduction said, to the author and his friends (100+ years ago), it seemed nothing could stop the steam trains and steamboats short of hell and high water. Then he realized, that's what makes them go--hell and high water!

I'd give anything to go on a steam engine passenger train ride and see America from the point of view my ancestors did. And would love to see Norway via passenger train in the winter snow for sure! I was born too late. To me nothing sounds more relaxing and exciting at the same time as hearing a train. Back in 1830 people looked at these in amazement. Now in 2020 people look at these in amazement for the opposite reason. Just goes to show you how quickly technology changed in the last 100 years.

These don’t use oil. They’re hydraulic and steam powered, lubricated by water. Maybe a little grease but not any fuel oil.
