Installing My Quiet Cool Whole House Fan (Step By Step)

  • In this video, I'm Installing My Quiet Cool Whole House Fan. I'll show you step by step how to install yours. Directions come in the box, too. Several DIY'ers are able to put this in themselves. Especially after watching this how-to video. I'm really happy with the QuietCool units we purchased.
    Installing a QuietCool Whole House Fan can seriously help reduce the cost of your electric bill by cooling the attic down in your house in order to give your house a head start on the summer heat. The fan is not noticeable and does a great job cooling down my attic. The ventilation it provides my house is great too in situations where you might need to get rid of cooking smells or smoke.
    Attic fans are okay, but all they do is blow the direct hot attic air to the outside air. Whereas, with the quiet cool whole-house fan you're actually pulling cool air in through your windows and drawing it up into the attic where it will ventilate itself directly through the vents.

    *Well-made, delivered quickly, and easy to install with **Fastly.Cool** . I may be imagining it, but it seems quieter than the 14 year-old unit that I pulled out. Of course it was noisy at the end due to failed bearings, so hard to compare.*

    Great job! Thank you. FYI most of the 3000 CFM and above are 3 speed motors. Look at the motor name plate to be sure! Pull back the conduit gently from the motor find the extra wire and spend the $125 on the wireless RF controller. Super easy. Not sure why they don’t do it for us! Maybe a marketing thing. Anyways 3 speeds are better than 2… gives more flexibility! Thanks again video was killer!

    I've had my es2250 in for almost a year now and I love it. I wired it to a 120 volt thermostat so when its 74deg outside it comes on and it gets partial make up air from the dog door till I open the windows. Saves me from running the ac about 4-5 hours a day in summer and pretty much all spring and fall.

    Next time cut 6"of Romex and two dry wall screws and screw it to the top of the drywall to make a handle so you can pull the piece you cut up to you instead of letting it fall and make a bigger mess. Just my 2 cents.

    Hello, thank you for the video. We have an AC and you can run the fan without the AC. We are discussing whether to install a quiet cool system. I am not clear how this is different to just running the fan we already have instead of the AC. Can you clarify? Thanks

    • @foxfamilyheatingandaircond4696
      @foxfamilyheatingandaircond4696  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Normally with the fan on your air handler (indoor unit) you wouldn't open the windows to let the active breeze come into the house. QC fans you HAVE TO open your windows because so much air gets moved.

    • @mahagebara7394
      @mahagebara7394 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@foxfamilyheatingandaircond4696 Thanks for your reply. We do open the windows when we run the fan. Does this not cool the attic?

    • @david-iam
      @david-iam 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mahagebara7394 That's one of the benefit. It pulls the cooler air from the outside through your open windows and across your house, then up through the attic. This evacuate the stale hot air out of the attic through the attic vents. With the attic air cool, it acts as a buffer and take longer before the radiant heat from the roof makes it through into your house.
      Think of it as opening all the windows in your car that's park on a sunny day. It only takes a min or so and all the hot air gets removed. Even faster if the car is in motion. That's kindda the premise on how the whole house fan works.

      Thank you Dylan for your comment. I have an old school belt drive 30" fan that's installed in a hallway at the sleeping end of the house. I wanted to move the fan to the other end of the house and liked the QuietCool design. Today, I look at purchasing one and Holy Cow what a market up! Damn, I understand making a profit, but that is excessive. Honestly, the whole fan concept isn't a winning solution in every climate zone. They lost my interest after $400

    Nice video... great it sucking up the whole house but I think there is something wrong may be, the fan should be installed on the wall roof vent blowing air outside the house not just hunging around inside the attic, blowing air inside the attic it could be disturbed the insulations small particles are flying around inside attic and it might be going back inside the house. correct me if i'm wrong thanks

      It pulls cool air into the house the air inside the house gets exhausted into the attic pushing the hot air in the attic out the vents of the attic. It’s actually working double. It’s cooling your house and cooling the attic at the same time.

      There are dampers inside where the grill is, that blocks the movement of air. When the fan is not running, the dampers are closed. The dampers are insulated. In colder climates, you can add additional insulation in front of the dampers.

      jason Inman what we're trying to do is draw in fresh air through open windows on nice days. the object on hot summer days is 2 cool your attic off with room temperature air which will give your attic and your house and Head Start as it starts heating up throughout the day hopefully requiring less air conditioning usage saving the customer money

    • @crwalter2003
      @crwalter2003 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pulling it out of the house, and pushing it into the attic, which pushes the attic heat out the gable end vents, etc..

    • @Redallstar1
      @Redallstar1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The house fan draws fresh outside air into your home, then up the fan, into the attic, and finally out your attic vents. This is most effective at sunset when the temp outside is cooler than the inside of your home. Your attic can be 50 degrees hotter than the inside of your house. That heat stays trapped in your attic and radiates from your ceiling. I know because my house feels like an oven when I try to go to bed during the summer nights.
      After an hour or so of running the fan, your house should feel as cool inside as it does outside.

    • @gregschroer2314

    • @ghiagoo
      @ghiagoo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s mostly used in the morning and evening, to bring in colder air, to cool the house. It’s to cut down on the use or elimination of the need for AC. Useful depending upon where you live. Not useful in humid south

    • @ghiagoo
      @ghiagoo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      But there was a day last week, in the afternoon, I was running my portable AC. I hadn’t been outside. I didn’t realize it had cooled off like 8-10 degrees. I could’ve cooled off my whole house quickly with this fan, instead of only cooling the bedroom with my AC

    • @boss350z5
      @boss350z5 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ghiagoo Im in Florida... LOL I think that's why it seems like such a foreign concept to me. Here this would just make the house 90 degrees in 10mins. Seriously, i have to run my AC at 67 to keep it under 74 or so during the hottest parts of the day (it was 98 yesterday with a heat index of 115 and 90% humidity.). My attic legit reaches temps of 140 at 2-4pm and my house is only 14yrs old... needs new insulation though and the windows and doors suck too.

    • @bff426
      @bff426 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@boss350z5 I don't think a whole house fan would work for you. However, you should check out the Quiet Cool website on their attic fans. They can be set to go on automatically when the temperature and/or humidity reach a certain point, and exhaust up to 3000 ft.³ per minute out of your attic. The kicker on that is you need to have soffit or eave vents that will supply the makeup air for whatever amount of air you're sucking out. You will replace the 140°F attic air with 90°F outside air.
