I read many of Mitchner's books in the 1970s, was right into his writing. He still has a big following. I must re-read a few of his books, as most of my reading is nonfiction, especially history. Mitchner employed a team of undergraduates to do much of his research for his books, he put a lot of work and reearch into each book. It will be interesting to see how I like his books these days, after not reading any of his books since the early and mid 1970s. Keep it up Jennie.

Thanks for sharing about Michener's research. Makes sense given the scope of his work.

My late father was a very avid reader, so that must be where I get it from. I recently bought Alaska by James Michener at a library book sale, not that I am taking a vacation there, but I heard my dad talk about him for many years growing up, so I’m going to try to read that soon and yes it looks like the exact same size as your Hawaii book😮

Will you do a video on the best travel books you've read? I have just finished a travel book by Colin Thubron, titled 'In Siberia', pub. 1999. It's a good cultural geography lesson and a good read, albeit somewhat dated. of course Bill Bryson and Paul Theroux are two great travel writers which pop into mind when one mentions travel writing.

Hi Gregory, to be honest I don't read travel guide books. Perhaps it's a generational thing, but I tend to watch travel videos instead of reading about places. I prefer to read fiction or non-fiction about the history of a place rather than travel guides. So no videos forthcoming, but I will share a travel video of what we get up to in Hawaii.

I did not mean travel guide-books, I meant memoirs about travelling to different lands. Such books are classed as travel, adventure, memoir...but they are certainly not travel guide books, which are indeed among the most boring of all books, but can be useful when visiting an unknown country. ❤

@@gregoryross.303 that I may do in future. I’ve read a handful so far. And yes, they are much better than travel guides 😂
