    I've purchased a few details coins to help fill an album if they looked nice to me. You can't beat the price. Especially if the dealer has been sitting on them for a long time and wants to get them out of his shop. I don't sell my coins so there's nothing wrong with doing it in my case.
    I'm sorry that I didn't get back to you about that steel penny. I had a medical issue and was in bed for the last two days. I can't afford it right now. It was a beauty though.

    I'm glad you buy and sell and move these coins I never really liked anything cleaned or messed with and anything I get it get rid of quick but I'm glad you're finding homes for these coins and people don't mind having them

    My LCS acquired a collection that was recovered from a fire. He carefully “restored” the 1921 Peace dollar. As l’m learning to grade, I believe it’s an AU+ with great luster. I have & will enjoy this coin for a long time.

    To value a details coin only one grade back is super generous. I value them at 3 grade levels back so from Unc.-Vf or AU-Fine. Not only is the value typically 50% but they are also much harder to sell obviously

      I have always heard three grades back as well. Very difficult coins to sell. I do not buy coins with issues. Why buy someone else's problems when there are a lot of nice coins around?

    That PR quarter was NOT cleaned. I think sometimes PCGS has their head up where the sun don't shine.

    I collect Half Dollars, mostly Liberty Walking Half Dollars, some Ben Franklin Half Dollars, some Kennedy, some Washington Modern Commemorative, and have an example of a Barber and Seated Liberty. It was just last night I was looking at that 1822 Capped Bust Half, and the 1806 Draped Bust Half on the Portsmouthcoinshop website. These two coins remind me of Indiana Jones saying, "That belongs in a Museum." I was looking at the Red Book, and today the PGCS Price Guide, I would price it at exactly what Daniel has it at, with allowing for Best Offer. Money is the issue for me, yet if you have it either of those would be pretty nice to have in your collection. A coin shop needs to make some money, and if you just buy it what Daniel is selling it at what I am looking at both are a good deals.

    There was recently an ANACS graded MS67 1964 memorial cent that sold for over 400$ if I am remembering correctly. I guess with that it just depends on what the buyer thinks about the coin. Thanks for another video.

    If you specialize in very early U.S. copper coins, and don't have a million dollars, you'll probably be buying Details coins from that era because so many of those coins were buried in the past. Straight-graded, problem-free coins from that era cost so much money that they are left to rich investors. Modern coins, on the other hand, might be essentially worthless if cleaned. How much would I pay for a UNC details Ike dollar, even if it's in a slab? I'm an error collector and I'll occasionally buy Details-graded errors but the grade level doesn't mean as much with those coins.

    I'm thinking on the proof quarter. Maybe the grading company thought it had been dipped to get haze off. And in some instances if its dipped correctly, its hard to tell .

    Does “UNC Details” mean that the coin is an authentic coin but that it has some type problem which prevents receiving a MS or PR grade?
    I’m still a little confused about this grading stuff when I see so many of your coins that should’ve received higher grades.
    In the meantime, I’ll continue watching your videos and learn enough to recognize a coin suitable to send in for grading.
    Thanks as always my friend.

    How to value details coins? That really varies depending on the collector -- it is a personal decision. Some wouldn't touch them at any cost, and others use a set percentage like 50% or 60%. It also depends on the coin. Key date? Low mintage? Looks like it is not Details? There really can't be a price guide for Details coins as everyone has their own opinion of the value for problem coins.

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or there needs to be a price guide to fix this issue and standardize cleaned coins values?

  • @RealLifeFinance
    @RealLifeFinance 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    So what does details mean then?
    I thought they were being graded for example
    "UNC details"
    meaning uncirculated but details. So I understood the grade was given to a coin and the word details meant (cleaned/ altered)

    • @everettwhite9874
      @everettwhite9874 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s kinda what I thought. I thought UNC details grade indicated an authentic coin with defects that doesn’t qualify for the lowest MS60/PR60 grades.
      The cleaning could have occurred anytime in the past. I’ve some BU peace dollars I’d like to have slabbed but I’d sure hate to choose the wrong one because maybe some of that blast white surface might not be consistent and NGC/PCGS would call it cleaned.
      I give up. 😇😉

    +just wanted to throw this 2 cents in since I never hear anyone talk about it, but, the edge is also a factor when grading these coins also, I imagine even though the obverse and reverse have a nice grade, I know I personally have never looked at an edge very close, maybe this is why some grade lower than we expect?
