You might spot a couple of title errors in the video (my fault during the edit) - thanks Eyal for pointing this out - so for the sake of clarity the C1 Cutlery is from Roxon and the Microfiber Tower is from Eono - apologies for any confusion.
Jon, someone once mentioned that you are to EDC as Bob Ross was to painting. Your videos are a breath of fresh air after scrolling through other channels where people think that you aren’t REALLY EDCing if you don’t carry around a $120 titanium coin, a $60 handkerchief, and a $400 pocket knife. Your content is very thoughtfully put together and it shows. Keep on doing what you do!
I swear, your videos are equal parts EDC information and ASMR. The sound and lighting of your videos is absolutely mint! (I'm jealous of your knick-knack shelves in the background)
Hmm. You're not the first person to say you've had one for a long time and that it's good kit. I've found the opposite. Maybe they're not manufactured to the same standard anymore?
I whole heartedly recommend the Lumintop flashlight, I’ve used it for over two years, the finish has worn a bit, but it works great, and has come in handy many, many times.
The gerber armbar is just another example of Gerber *almost* getting things right. A lock for the driver, a spot for the pocket clip, and it would have been a real winner. Even moreso when you look at some of the alterantes they made with it. The slim 'drive' 'cut' and whatever they called the corkscrew one were slightly more minimal and directed in their uses.
@@JonGadget True, but I was able to add a clip to the end of the tool using a small o ring and a clip by Key smart. I also don't need a locking screwdriver when I bend it in half. And you forgot to say you can place a second double-sided bit inside the tool which can use any bit even Leatherman half bits. For the perfect armbar, you could buy a Multiforce which can be modified by placing all the Armbar elements on one side and then you have a clip, all locking tools a great pair of scissors, and a great knife minus the pliers of course.
Having a huge collection of similar small bags of varying fabrics for the odds n ends we truck about with, I have decided the very best is the conventional plastic (clear see-through!) sandwich bags. Cheap and last “forever”.
You've really gotten into the affordable gear with great value - and I really appreciate it and think you're doing amazing job at it ☺️ Thanks as always!
Hi Jon. Re the lumintop EDC01, having just ordered one, specs at an output of 5,32 and 120 lumens and not 200 as mentioned in the video. Still hard to beat for £10 and ,as others have commented, the diffuser glows in the dark which is another nice touch. Bought 2 of them and a Gerber Shard. Happy with the purchase of everything so thanks for the review.
I have two of the EDC01’s and they are excellent little torches, the diffuser is an excellent little feature as it’s made from a soft phosphorescent plastic, you can turn on the torch for a short duration to energise it, turn it off and you have a nice moonlight glow.
Another great video, Jon! I have some experience with a few of those items. I've been carrying a pair of Viperade VE3 pouches since last year, and they're awesome -- but I ordered two VE16 pouches yesterday to replace them. It's the same basic design as the VE3, except that it's a bit wider (4.3"), it moves the main zipper to the edge, and it adds TWO MORE pockets to the back (one with a zipper, one without), along with a velcro panel for morale patches if you're into those. I only wanted the Gerber Armbar's bit driver, so I bought the Armbar Slim Drive, which has the bit driver and the knife blade. The lack of a pocket clip is unfortunate, but you can fix that the same way you did on your Swiss Army Knife, by adding a KeySmart Nano Clip. I keep a Slice Pen Cutter in my kitchen drawer specifically for opening packages. It's especially useful on plastic clamshell or blister packaging, which often seems like it's designed specifically to make you cut yourself while trying to get it open. I didn't know about Tomtoc's Recycled Storage Pouch, but I have their Compact EDC Sling Bag and I'm very happy with it. Amazon U.S. currently has the Recycled Storage Pouch at $15-16 (depending on color) rather than $10, but that's still a great price. I may have to grab one.
Some cool gear there and useful recommendations. Have to say I think the Gerber Shard is heavily overrated. I carried one for three years, don't ever remember using it even once. All it was really good at was making holes in my pockets. Really not worth it. Eventually ditched it and have never missed it. I carry a small Victorinox Swiss Mini Champ in a coin pocket of my shorts or trousers and it is fantastic.
I've been using that lumintop torch for a few years now and I have to say I find it fantastic, I get lots of use from it. Also been using that TomTom pouch for a good while too for charging cables it's decent quality.
Another brilliant video. I’m just sending links of your videos to my family for Christmas ideas. Anything you recommend is top notch. If my relatives are reading this, no slip lock knives except the one in this video as a backup!
Don't forget that they are intentionally dull and can neither stab nor slice anything. I used a slice once and it's honestly incredibly what they sell as a "blade". As someone who uses a proper medical grade scalpel as an edc keychain knife the benefit I get from that over the usual EDC knives I have carried before that is that I get an incredibly sharp blade that I do not need to care about at all, scrape glue, cut food, doesn't matter my blade is always razor sharp and not just clean it's sterile.
Very cool to see Viperade products being reviewed. Fan of the Arc and Maxpedition pouches, but Viperade has some creative little pouches that seem still be a little slimmer and minimalist.
Thanks Jon another great selection. I purchased the Eono towel although my orange one cost £12.99. Not sure why companies charge more for certain colours of exactly the same item. So annoying 😡
Hi John, Big fan.....thanks for your highly informative gear reviews....... Just a thought...... Have you come across a multi-tool called "Goat-tool" ? Worth a look....I've got one on order.... Regards as always, Dee....
Thanks mate, I was on the lookout for a proper EDC cutlery set but everything had felt subpar until I looked at the Roxon set you introduced in this video. Bought it immediately, no regrets
Thanks Jon once again for showing us some fab edc gear. I love your vlogs always right to the point. I have made many a happy purchase thanks to your reviews. Thank you.
Hello! I really enjoy your videos - thank you! Do you have any recommendations for EDC pry tools? I would love to see a video about this tool. Thank you!
Some great options! I've had the EDC01 for a couple years now, it's an excellent budget light and the accessories Lumintop includes really pushes up the value. That Roxon cutlery set has really got my attention though... for some reason, not like I need more!
That Gerber multitool looks like the perfect combination of tools for my EDC around the house. I think an enterprising person in the UK could remove or deactivate that liner lock sufficiently to make it legal.
Excellent list Jon, some awesome items here. The lumintop 01 and armbar and rite in the rain pretty are in my future purchase list, along with the shard because I lost my first one. I own and love the viperade ve3, it is regularly part of my EDC. The microfiber towel and that roxon set are Kool as well, might have to look into those. Slice has a Kool variety of cutters but not sure if I want one just yet lol. Keep up the great content, ATB to you sir.
I like the contents of your EDC. What do you do if you come to a situation, unbeknownst to you, where you cannot bring a sharp blade of any kind and there’s no where close to dispose of it where you can retrieve it later? Thanks.
Great video as always. Thanks for covering some budget gear. The gerber shard became my keychain multitool after the "no-knife" flying rules came in. I would say that the V-slot works better as a nail lifter than a wire stripper. If only the gerber armbar had a locking screw driver and non-locking knife it would be perfect! Without that I would not add it to my EDC and would rather stick to my Pioneer x alox ( as recommended by you...) or my small, but mighty, Midnite Manager.
The light at the beginning seems to max at 120 lumens rather than 200 (the instruction manual in the shot indicates this too). That said - what a torch for £10 indeed! I'd have murdered for that years ago. I'd say this is more useful for emergency kits given its ability to use a AAA. Forever grateful for you putting me onto the remarkable RovyVon Aurora A8 which is one of the finest bits of kit I've seen to date - that said this would suit a setup where you have less frequent interaction.
Small note on keramic blades: sharpening is a nightmare, and it can give of small shards. Personally i never use them, especially not for food (slightly off topic). I would go for a regular small metal blade you can sharpen as sharp, or dull, as you want
@@JonGadget ah, makes sense. Not sure if you are familiar with the 'knives and tools' site / store. They mentioned some studies regarding this. They choose not to sell keramic knives. Laterss
My growing edc is filling my pockets need a suitable belt carrier for pen knife, torch and pen I have seen some leather ones and am interested in the options
Loved the Gerber shard for travel but I finally stopped after buying 5 of them. Rental car company employees benefited from me forgetting them on the keychain.
WRT the Lumintop EDC01 The diffuser is great and glows in the dark really well (making it easy to find) for a short time. When it doesn't fall off. That's pretty minor, though. This torch has a major flaw in that it only works as intended/advertised for a month or so. Then it becomes more temperamental than a thoroughbred horse in need of a new shoe and with a feather up its nose... It switches on only when it wants to, irrespective of battery charge, stops allowing you to switch between modes when it _is_ in the mood to work. Store horizontally, vertically, ready to go, or with the end nearly falling off...The wonderful piece of kit you had just becomes annoying. And I have two of them. It's a shame, really
Thanks for showing how we can put together some meaningful budget-friendly EDC. Almost always something I can take with me when I watch your videos. I have a question, could you make a future video where you show how you could put together a pocket tool kit that could actually be in your trouser pocket, is that even possible?
I’ve modified most of my multi-tools and plenty of folding knives to make them legal to carry in the UK. if you’re even only slightly practical with your hands, don’t be put off from buying a tool that would really suit you just because of the locking blade issue.
Not a fan of the shard personally. It liked to dig into my leg on my keychain, and I don't think I used it once. Maybe I'll attach it to my bag instead.
GREAT! Gear I can afford. I really like flashlights with removable batteries especially if those batteries are rechargeable I have a LiIon light with 18650/20700 batteries & an external charger, just carry an extra battery never have to plug into the device itself
"SHARP" Blades is an Iginieous idea for sure! If only we could do this for basic food knives as well.. Resturaunts, where there are kitchen people all around the world cutting their hands and fingers all of the time.. I work at a mall, where there is a resturaunt worker who choppes a finger at least once a week. They cant wear chain mail gloves like butchers and do their craft! This should be the new TECH for them! Maybe Butchers could gain tech from this as well!! 😀 I am kink of surprised that these industries are not using the this tech now? Or are they??
Fascinating that a company would try to make being dull a feature for a blade. Pro tip: if a blade is "too sharp" for your task, then the tool you need isn't a blade.
Hello, love your videos, I have a question though. I have a small TH-cam channel and I do knife reviews. I heard you say that the fixed blade Gerber could not be carried in the U.K. is this a law, that you can't carry a fixed blade knife..??? Thanks.
A couple of things that need to be cleared up in this statement - being a carpenter or similar in and of itself isn’t a valid reason. If you popped into the shops for lunch and had a utility knife on your belt, then this isn’t a valid reason. Also, it’s not up to the police, it’s up to the courts. You’re right about EDC though. Because you might want to use it most definitely is not a valid reason.
I'm sure I read somewhere that ceramic blades are illegal in the UK due to being undetectable by those metal detectors you walk through like at the airport. Anyone know if this is true?
Jon, NOW you show budget gear? After my wife left me for buying all of the expensive gear you've ever shown? On a more serious note, I'm not sure if you'll want to address this, but I wonder if you think there is any chance of the UK knife restrictions ever being reformed? The idea that a 2.5 inch blade having a liner lock makes a multitool into a "weapon" seems a bit... much. Do people in the UK in general think that these laws are a good idea?
Scotsman here, no I do not think these laws are a good idea...most of the knife and weapon laws in here in the UK are idiotic at best. "Oh yes officer, I've just spent hundreds, if not thousands of pounds on knives and swords and such, just so I can go out and chib some mofo" 🤨
The law doesn't really make sense - there will be a better way to deal with this but the wrong people are making the decisions - the challenge is most people don't carry a knife so smaller voice - and there seems to be a lot of kids using knives as a weapons and popular opinion will be to take a hard line.
Great stuff but caveat emptor with any warranty concerns with Gerber products. They stopped responding after making a claim despite multiple attempts. Disappointing.
I made a claim about a month ago, for a 10 year old discontinued knife. It wasn’t even a claim, it was a question about what type of screwdriver to use to tighten it (it wasn’t a torx, but some kind of weird tri-tip/tri-force pattern); the knife still functioned fine but I just wanted to tighten it to decrease lateral blade wobble. They weren’t sure since it was made in China and discontinued over 10 years ago, but they gave me the historical msrp value of the knife in online credit for their site to get whatever replacements I wanted.
They start talking about doing away with high cap mags and bump stocks and were screaming TREASON here in the US and yall cant have a knife that locks open? I wouldn't even consider buying a knife that didn't lock open cause it can close on your fingers very easily if your not paying attention. I love your videos though and all the awesome gear you show with excellent descriptions.
You might spot a couple of title errors in the video (my fault during the edit) - thanks Eyal for pointing this out - so for the sake of clarity the C1 Cutlery is from Roxon and the Microfiber Tower is from Eono - apologies for any confusion.

Just got a smart watch off the Amazon… 45. bucks out the door..not bad if you ask me.
Great stuff but caveat emptor with any warranty concerns with Gerber products. They stopped responding after making a claim despite multiple attempts. Disappointing.
thanks for sharing - must be frustrating
Thanks for sharing. Disappointing as they make some decent gear
Gerber's warranty coverage used to be excellent, but it's fallen off a cliff the past few years. It's a shame, Gerber was once a great company.
@@RooftopKorean-gc4ig That is good to know. I opened my claim with them in 2019. Maybe I’ll open a new claim.
Wie immer coole Folge heute das Insekt.
You said 200 lumen on that first small flashlight - their website says only 120?
never knew I needed a luggage scale in my EDC
If it saves you from having to serve as entertainment for an airport crowd it's worth it.
What's the penalty for carrying a locking blade in the UK?
Can be 4 years for a repeat offence - but a lot I think will depend on the circumstances.
@@JonGadget Good Lord!
I can only find the Lumintop EDC01 in 120 lumens not 200
Is the “Slice” legal to carry in the UK?
All these laws against law abiding citizens and crime is out of control in London
Since the pen has a locking nib it is unfortunately illegal to carry in the UK. (just kidding of course)
most of these not available on amazon in my country
sorry to hear that - I'm not able to check every Country - hopefully it will be a source of inspiration
