    Hello Gary, Your videos were a god send. I am 5 weeks in my right hip replacement. I was feeling down, depressed, in constant pain, and I thought the Dr did something wrong. I was starting to plan my life with a walker or a wheelchair. Then, I found your videos! Everything you went through I am going through too. My knee has been hurting and swollen, the nerve pain just comes out of no where in the hip and especially on the scar itself.
    I didn't feel anyone understood.
    Now I feel hope KNOWING I will be better soon, it will just take time.
    Thank you so much, and god bless!!

      Thank you Tanya, that means a lot.. I did these videos for my hip, shoulder and my knees to try to help others. I was not sure when I made them if they were worth bothering with but messages like this make me feel like it was worthwhile. I hope and pray you start feeling better soon. It will take months to fully heal. Just let it happen. I am now 4 years post surgery and don't even know I had surgery other than I don't hurt or limp or twist when I walk. And I can bend over and put my socks and shoes on. Hang in there. Have a blessed day. If you have questions just ask.

      You're welcome. I heard all those stories and wanted to just tell it like it happened to me. I am glad it has helped some. I hope and pray your surgery goes well. It hurts for a while but it does get better. I don't even know I had the surgery now. It just works... Let me know if you have any questions.

      For a while my knee hurt more than my hip I think. I had my hip replaced in 2019 then I had both knees replaced in 2022 but that pounding of that new joint down into the bone really radiates into the knee. But it did get better. I hope and pray your husband gets relief soon. Tell him it will get better and he will walk so much better after it heals.

    Great vids, thanks for sharing them. Having hip replacement in two weeks. How long before you could start driving?

    • @GaryForgingOn
      @GaryForgingOn  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If I remember right the driving was as long as you were off the prescription pain meds for a few weeks to make sure it is out of your system and you are off the walker. But for me it took longer because it was my right hip and working that right leg was rough for a while so I probably waited closer to 12 weeks or more to drive but I could have pushed it a sooner. If it is your non-driving leg then you can as soon as you are off the walker and meds.

    • @jonathanpearman1052
      @jonathanpearman1052 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks, appreciate your reply. It’s my right leg/hip I’m going in for now. Left one maybe later this year. Expect a long rehab period and as we drive manual transmission here I expect both legs to take a pummeling.

    • @GaryForgingOn
      @GaryForgingOn  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jonathanpearman1052 oh, yes, a manual transmission would throw a wrench in the works. I used to have manuals but now everything we have are automatics. Especially my old 72 Jeep I used to have for years. The clutch travel was about 10 feet. LOL. That would hurt a lot.

      Be interesting to see how long rehab is needed before I get back to driving long distances. 😅

    • @GaryForgingOn
      @GaryForgingOn  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jonathanpearman1052 I understand that. My wife and I took a trip to see our daughter in college 3 hours away. But I cannot remember how long after my surgery that was. The hip was not as bad as the knee replacement on traveling. I mainly remember it felt like I was sitting on a big rock from the swelling. When I got my right knee done it was probably a year before my knee finally stopped hurting while driving. It was not the drive part but where my leg would be slightly leaning over put side pressure on the knee. If I just shifted my leg to be straight up and down I was fine.

    Had my right hip replacement May 5th. There's a lot of pain and swelling. Having had arthritis 33 years it finally came to replacement. I'm fighting the battle and there is outside support. At home not so much.

    • @GaryForgingOn
      @GaryForgingOn  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I completely understand. My first 2 weeks were miserable. I started thinking my doctor messed up. I was on pain meds and a walker for those 2 weeks. I started getting depressed by the end of the second week thinking I was not doing well. I was going to therapy and doing extra at home. After the second week I went to therapy and told them I was actually getting depressed because it always hurt and felt swollen and I was trying to work it out. My therapist got on my case and told me I was doing too much and it takes time. So I took a couple days off home therapy and everything seemed to click into place and I hit the turning point then. Then i did my therapy at their office and at home like I was supposed to and I got off the walker and the meds and the swelling started going down... You will feel like everything is messed up for awhile. Hang in there. you may hit that turning point after a couple weeks or maybe even longer but you will get there. Just keep going and you will be great. They chipped all my arthritis off and now I can walk without limping and twisting like I used to. I am also making a video series now on a knee replacement I got on March 7th. If you go into my channel playlist you will see all my weekly updates on the hip replacement. I hope this helps and I hope and pray you get feeling better soon and the pain goes away soon. It just took me over 2 weeks to get there.

      The knee hurt for a while after the hip replacement but the pain eventually went away. i cannot remember how long it took but I know it was after my first followup visit with the doctor because I asked him about the pain and that was when he told me how the knee suffers from the pounding on the hip. But it did get better. I had my hip done in 2019 and then both my knees replaced in 2022 so now it doesn't matter. :) I hope and pray you do well and your recovery goes well. Enjoyed watching your progress after your hip surgery. I am at 2 wks today, right hip replacement. I am right on point with you at that stage. Depression, etc. I still can't get my left lifted into bed on my own. My husband has to help me. Finally about to get out of bed alone. About the dentist, if there a reason you have to take an antibiotic for life before a procedure? Are you diabetic by chance? I have a cleaning appt for July which is 2 months after my hip replacement. I need to check with my doctor and dentist. Do not want to chance an infection. Again, thanks for sharing your journey. It's very helpful.

      @GaryForgingOn  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am glad my videos helped a little. I hope and pray your recovery goes well. You will enjoy the new hip once it is all healed up. I do have type 2 diabetes but that is not the reason for the antibiotics. What the doctor told me for my hip replacement also when got both my knees replaced after my hip. The mouth is a major and easy place to get infections and the doc said that kind of infection can go straight to a new joint. I thought it was only for while it was healing but they said no, it is forever because even years after surgery you can get an infection in your mouth that travels down the bone or something like that. Also, call your dentist. I went to get a dental cleaning a few months after one of my knees and they sent me home. They said they cannot work on my mouth for 6 months after a replacement and then they have to check with the doctor too. So call first. I went all the way in and had to just drive back home. I hope that helps a little.

    Had one knee done 7 years ago the other is going to go with a hip replacement, and need both hips soon. How do ou find welding and working on the hip? My knee popps no all the time don't know if it is because of bad hip/s or just old age and arthritis?

    • @GaryForgingOn
      @GaryForgingOn  ปีที่แล้ว

      My hip and knee were both in bad shape too and I had to get the hip done before the knee. Having that hip and knee shot on my right side caused me to wear out my left knee. Now I have had my right knee replaced last March and then my left knee this past Sept.
      Before my knee replacements if I was bending over trying to pick stuff up my knees would just pop back and forth over and over until I stood up. My knees would click and pop when I walked being bone on bone too but not as much. When I was sitting in a recliner my knees would lock up and pop loose all the time. Now after both knees are replaced all the stopped. Other than the walking. The metal joints in my knees constantly click and pop but it is just a noise now and not a bone on bone feeling. I never had any popping out of my hip that I know if. Mine was jammed in from a fall and was bone on bone with a bunch of arthritis around the socket and ball that stopped my motion. The doc chiseled off the spurs (arthritis) around the socket and the spurs around the ball just got cut off when they took that out. When they did my right hip first it made my right knee hurt really bad for a while. The doc said that was normal from all the pounding they do to drive that hip joint into the bone. It did get better after a while. I hope and pray you have a successful surgery and recovery.

    I'm having a THR in 2 weeks. I am torn between having the anterior or prosterior approach. The prosterior is safer for the patient. I've had 3 major back surgeries, right shoulder and both knees operated on and I'm about 90 to 95 percent and all surgeries were successful, but I am terrified about the hip replacement. Quicker is not always better so I am leaning on having the prosterior approach on my left hip. Thanks for the videos 👍

    • @GaryForgingOn
      @GaryForgingOn  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I asked my doctor about the method and he pretty much does what it the way he feels is best. So I just went with that. I don't regret it. I think mine is anterior but it is right the side of my hip/thigh. Probably a bit in front of the center line. I was like you. I had 2 bad knees and had surgeries on both, Since my hip replacement I had both of the knees replaced. My back surgery to remove a ruptured disk was in there too as well as a rotator cuff. But my hip had limited movement so I twisted and limped. And because of that my legs hurt, my back hurt and I was getting atrophy in my right leg because of the bad hip and knee on that side. And the doctor told me we feel hip problems in our knees. Now that I can walk without limping and twisting and normal again I have so much less pain and I can walk long distances and stand for hours. You will not regret it. Hang in there and take the meds and do the PT and keep working that joint and muscles after PT. I hope and pray you recover well and feel great.

    • @dpackman
      @dpackman 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@GaryForgingOn Thank you for your response Gary. I am glad you are doing better. The orthopedic I used for my knee and shoulder does not do the anterior approach on the hip, just the prosterior in the back. There is many more restrictions with a prosterior surgery, longer recovery time and a chance of dislocation down the road. I am going to see a hip specialist this Friday that specializes in the anterior approach, and get a second opinion on which would be the best approach. I'm really want to do the anterior if I am able to. I really appreciate your response and input.Thank you very much.
