    I had some of the same experiences you did Gary. After my hip replacement thing went slow at first but now it's as good as new. Stay safe and well

      Thanks, It was amazing how much that one joint made so many other parts hurt. Now when I get both knees replaced I will be jumping over buildings. ;)

    God bless you for having done these videos Gary.
    I’ve just started week 5 of my recovery from surgery and I have been having a lot of the same experiences as you up to now.
    I was getting a little frustrated with the success stories I had heard even though my therapist was telling me I’m doing well.
    Anyway just wanted to again Say thank you.
    Cheers 🇨🇦

      Thank you Graham, That was me as well back then. I heard all those stories and was so disillusioned with my recovery. I just wanted to show the real progress and how it does work out. My hip is now 3 years old and doing great. I don't even think about it now. I hope and pray you continue to do well and fully recover. Take care , Gary

      Thanks Gary for these videos! They have been such a blessing to me. 🙌🏾
      I am only at day 6 post surgery and I needed the reality check vs. the success stories.
      You are *so* right about the advice from experienced PT and nurses who have seen hundreds of patients if not many more.
      I don't know why it is so hard for me to recall my best day was when I stopped overdoing the exercises, took my pain meds, and *just* *let* *my* *body* *heal*. 🙄
      Today, I am going to do just that and learn these jazz guitar chords I've been putting off for so long!
      Bless you again for taking the time to record these super helpful videos!
      Only by His Grace,
      David

I hope and pray you start to feel better and sleep more soon. I completely understand the depressing part. Hang in there. You will be doing great soon and sleeping better soon too and then you will feel better.

      Thank you again Sandra for the kind words. I hope and pray you heal well and that all goes well. I am now 12 weeks out from my first knee replacement. But having a good working hip has really helped with the knee too. I wanted to be open about my experience, including the emotional side of it which can make or break a recovery, in my opinion. Take care and please let me know how you are doing. I am usually better about responding within a day or 2 but these messages got past me for some reason.

    Gary, your video journey has been a godsend to me. I’m 10 days post-op from hip replacement and really struggling… not too much with hip pain, but with lack of sleep. I had a full blown panic attack last night just from pure sleep deprivation I assume. I’m lucky if I can eek out 2 hours any given day. I’m also diabetic and have neuropathy in both feet. The swelling in my legs & feet from surgery seems to really enjoy teaming up with my neuropathy to ensure I’m as uncomfortable as possible. Has anyone else experienced difficulty sleeping after the THR surgery? How long did it last?
    Cheers

    • @GaryForgingOn
      @GaryForgingOn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear about your trouble sleeping. I only could get some sleep with the pain meds. I too struggled for those first 2 weeks. I was getting depressed and thinking something was wrong. I am a type 2 diabetic too but I do not have the neuropathy. I tried to use the polar ice pack pump from my rotator cuff surgery to make it cold and reduce swelling in that hip but it was tough to make it fit on my hip. About the only thing that help me was ice and meds for those few weeks. I pray you get some relief soon. Hang in there a little bit longer and hopefully you will hit that turning point soon.

      Hopefully you're ok now, but for anyone else - trouble sleeping after surgery is common. It's not just you. Two Orthopedic surgeons are on TH-cam as Talking with Docs, and they have a nice video about it.

      @@carole_Uk hi Carole, I assure you that things will get better. TH-cam videos usually show best case scenarios which is probably not everyone’s post op experience. The swelling takes quite a while to subside.. not shocking there’s still significant swelling at 2 weeks. Just keep icing and elevating. Use the cane as long as you need to. It’s not a race. You’ll get there. I’ve had 2 hips & a knee replaced… got better each time because I knew what to expect. Also, if they gave you a med like Oxi, I recommend taking it if you’re not, and if you are able. It will hopefully allow you to relax more and hopefully get some sleep. I didn’t take it after my first surgery because I didn’t want to take an addictive narcotic, but the doc said it’s the minimum dosage, so I took it after the next surgery and it relaxed me enough to get some sleep. I turned a corner for the better around the 3 or 4th week. Hang in there.

      @carole_Uk hope your doing better at your week 5/6? I'm right at week 6 myself. I'm off the pain meds & doing better at walking & exercises. Of course it does ache because i stopped the meds. But I'm glad i did because i was having bad reactions. I ditched the socks when I was in the rehab center.
      (Which was for 10 days) They made my legs numb & painful.
      These realistic videos helped me out of my depression.

    Hi. I had my hip replacement surgery left side. I'm still feeling pain which is manageable and swelling especially when I do exercises. is that something to worry about?

    • @GaryForgingOn
      @GaryForgingOn  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The swelling will take several weeks to go down but it does get better. Everyone has different amounts of pain. I went a couple weeks on prescription pain meds and then went down to regular pain meds. It takes a while but if you are concerned you may want to call the doctor's office and ask them. I'm not sure how long it has been for you. I hope you are doing well with your recovery though.

    Long before you can walk normal had my surgery 10 days ago having a lot of pressure in my lower calf

    • @GaryForgingOn
      @GaryForgingOn  ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of it seemed to be around the swelling going down. I know I went camping and hiking with one of my daughters after the hip replacement. But I cannot remember how long. I am thinking maybe 6 months but I am not sure. It did really good but I also had bad knees so my right leg with the replaced hip had lost a lot of muscles. Retraining the brain to "not limp" seemed to take longer than I would have thought. Once you get where you can walk okay just start walking and concentrating to not limp and do a good stride. You might want to ask your doc on the next visit.

    Hi Gary. Hope your doing well, I have a question. I'm 35 days post-op I'm using a Cain to walk very little pain! However my leg lost a few inches like yours and they did a great job making both legs the same length. My question did your heel hurt while applying weight to walk ? On the operative leg Thanks 😊

    • @GaryForgingOn
      @GaryForgingOn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad you are doing well. I don't recall my heal hurting but I know my leg in general hurt and got sore just from finally using it and walking normal again. I am still trying to get the strength back in it but it is a slow process. I hope that helps and you get some relief on your heal.

    46yr old. Im probably in the top 1% of fitness for my age. Been addicted to working out 6 days a week since I was 16yr old. I used to run 80-100km week. That is until my right hip got osteoarthritis. Im 10 weeks PO still cant put my right sock on or shoe. Im worried that this could be my new norm. Anyone have good news for me

    • @GaryForgingOn
      @GaryForgingOn  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It will improve. It just takes some more time. It takes a while for all the swelling to go down and to get the movement back. You are doing great. Hang in there. Before my surgery and for months afterwards I could not reach my foot to put on a sock. Now all the swelling is gone I can move, walk and put on my socks again.

    • @GaryForgingOn
      @GaryForgingOn  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not measured the distance. But I went camping with my daughter after my hip healed and we went on a a few hikes. One ended up being close to 5 or 6 miles. I was sore afterwards but not bad. Now it is over 3 years and we recently went on vacation and did a lot of walking and my hip did not bother me at all but I don't know how far we walked.

    Sir, my mother had a total hip replacement after femor head fracture. 2 days after the fracture she had symptoms of stroke. High bp. I don't know it was stroke or not. Its been a month, my mother is still in walker with a lot of pain. And I notice some mental issues. The internet tells me people with hip fracture may develop co morbidites and many die within a year. I am super depressed now. Any hopes ?

    • @GaryForgingOn
      @GaryForgingOn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not sure on the co morbidities but I know once your mother heals and if she can continue her physical therapy she should start walking better. Hopefully that would allow her to feel better. I hope and pray for you as well. There is always hope and I am sure your mother knows you are their for her and that means a lot.
