Recently picked up a 'barn-find' red CS (Grp A Rallye) in Australia, 1 owner car with gold plaque in the engine bay with his name on it. I was born in the mid 80's and as a kid was absolutely in love with the car when it was rallying, still obsessed with it 30+ years later. It is a highly overlooked and under-appreciated car but I think that in time values will start to go up albeit slowly. Personally I don't care as I will keep mine forever. Love yours, thanks for being among the small group of us who value the car and will keep it around. Not sure if you know about Carbon Microsystems but they love it so much as well that they've pretty much reproduced every body part of the car in carbon fiber available for sale. Cheers, mate!
That Celica is beautiful, surely a winner. But definitely one to drive and enjoy. I think that will fit in amazingly with the rest of the rally car collection.
Richard, think the R33 Nismo 400r will always be a good investment as they made 44 world wide out of a potential 100. With regards to the GT4 I think its more niche and relies like a lot of things on people remembering although a very successful car in rally terms it relies on people knowing this, if unlike the Subaru's you have to tell them I think this instantly affects its value. After all the reason for the boom in skyline prices is the fast and furious franchise. Everyone knows the car as a result, American films, huge demand massive prices!
Richard Absolutely love the gt4 fantastic rally car and that will sit nicely in your collection. Didn’t they have to make 5000 for the group a regulations I could be wrong but that’s a fantastic car
Yaris gr mk1 will drop but then hold and go back the cs gt4 is massively underated however the tuning difficulties on standard ecu in comparison to cosworths made them hard work having had x2 of them great car.impreza gc8 Mcrae edition still not received the recognition is deserves strong money but not strong enough. Mk5 r32 dsg with wing backs and nav. Also curve ball fiat coupe 20v turbo is undervalued also
Gt 4 nice, bit rare as you say Richard, There where loads around about 5 years ago, some where tatty around 5-8k but I’ve seen very few since, they rust a bit so that could be why, plus not much theatre inside like most jdm cars of the time But at 20k iI just keep coming back to manual boxter/ Camen might not go mad but think will keep up long term and the manual ones are bit more involved to drive ,
I think the GT4 is a good bet, not many CS left now, I used to own an import ST185 GT4 in metallic burgundy red, it didn’t have the turbo punch like an Impreza but I think that’s because of the twin entry turbo on the GT4, but I properly loved that car.
Hi Richard, not sure if the cs gt4 has much appreciation left, it’s past the US 25 year rule and in Ireland here it’s past the 30 year vintage rule and still hasn’t made much difference, ignore the European prices, they’re pie in the sky, I turned down a red cs last year for 17k with 60k miles because I want a white one, looking back now I should of bit, and yes they are v difficult to come across but they don’t seem to have a strong enough following, give it another 10 years, when it’s over 40 years old, and I think the market left for a customer for this car is extremely reduced, in saying all that if you know anyone with a well priced white one just drop me a message😅
back in the day I imported lots of gt4s I still own 2, and have always thought they were under rated. They were so good as a rally car escort cosworths with a ford following are so much more, but as a car were rubbish and I dont think they ever beat the celica in competition as they were rallying the same time. UK is always slow on the uptake on any classic because of british drive it till its dead mentality, even though they made 5000 so many have been lost to rallying and abuse, I still see many broken because parts are premium and cars are cheap to buy but expensive to restore, I restore cars and a good restoration on one would cost 15k possibly more. For me they will always go up and have been now for years all be it very slowly, however that said I do think the next 5 or 10 years will see all classic cars go up in price massively because no one wants or likes electric which is not the future for cars they just dont know it yet, I think electric cars will be gone in 20 years, replaced by hydrogen possibly. Keep your gt4 its defo a great car and rare getting rarer by the year, keep it just because you love it.
Bought my GT4 Group A/CS Aussie delivered 117 of 151 for 4k AUD. These cars are awesome, and there's a reason they were such great rally cars. Will never sell mine as the sentimental value is too high
i dont think you will loose any money , ive just looked at cars for sale nere in spain and I found half a dozen of them, ranging from 30-45k, the dearest had 70k km
Not convinced on the GT4. Yes it’ll increase in value just like a Cortina has but the engine isn’t special enough over the standard car imho. It appeared more of a bit of a badge exercise to shift the car.
Lovely car with great pedigree. Was it that car or the later ones where Toyota fitted a variable valve that as standard, looked fine, but under acceleration it opened up to allow more air in around the turbo? 🤔 I think as time goes on, there will be fewer and fewer models available, a good calculated risk. Several years ago I had an original S1 Elise in red with 18k miles, and the original MMC brakes? Etc. Sold it about 8 years ago for £19k, still only worth about that, so don’t think lotus values ever really climb that far. I could write a list of other cars that I had the opportunity to buy, but didn’t and have went astronomical in last 8-10 years tho… 🤦♂️

Your GT4 is stunning. Love the grey.

I used to buy old cars because I couldn’t afford new but now it’s almost the other way round for something nice!
It’s seems that way at the moment
Love it. I’ve got an original Toyota advertisement for the Sainz GT-Four, framed, on a wall at home.

Too Heavy & slow too .
Now they are very rare cars almost impossible to find.
I own a red one

Too many, there are almost no good ones left 😂. Even standard ST185s are really hard to find especially with good interiors.
how about a lotus Carlton
Elise yes , Rs500 yes , escort cosworth yes , 996 gt3 rs yes , M3 CSL yes , GT4 yes
Z4M coupe? Circa 400 made for Uk market? 🤔
I really like the Z4 👍
