One of the best, most layered episodes of the series, imho. Cherry Jones, as Nan Pierce, is one of the few actors that can match Brian Cox's Logan Roy for gravitas.
I am happy that you caught that server's reaction thing. It felt a bad taste in my mouth that Nan did that but every rich bastard probably does that. I love this show so much that I watched all 4 seasons four times hahaha
Love these succession reactions man. Glad you are enjoying the show so far. Please keep them up! (p.s. the way you said "I mean Kendall legitimately needs help" cracked me tf up haha)
i love the small moments when this show acknowledges service workers and the way they're treated by these awful rich people. the thing with nan and the chef in this one, all the stuff with waiters and kendall, and even in 2x01 when they showed the service staff tossing out all that food they made because of the raccoons. all the tiny little nods to the regular world beyond the borders of what any of the characters in this show even notice. i also love how they use those moments to tell us as the audience how to feel about characters - like, the pierces are supposed to be the opposites to the roys because they run a liberal news org, but the writers make it so clear in this ep that the pierces are just as out of touch and obnoxious and ignorantly rich as the roys are. the bit with nan getting the applause for the roast while the actual chef stands and watches... woof.
Honestly don't worry about missing things - people will totally fill in the blanks and a lot of it is stuff we noticed by being online and having it told to us aha. This is honestly one of my favourite episodes because I just love big dinner table scenes, old money new money dichotomy, feels like a play unfolding. I also like that you're getting a kick out of roman - he's such a compelling little freak on screen (as someone who also has kink preferences, I do a feel a lot for him because it's a tricky thing to navigate even without his well of issues). I feel so bad for Shiv even though she's selfish here because it's the classic thing - the closer you get to something the more you psych out and she's floundering under his scrutiny. Your face when she fumbles it so hard haha
Appreciate you saying so! I do love the conversations that end up coming up in the comments anyway. Yeah, I'm glad I wasn't the only one empathizing with Roman's situation, those are just conversations you gotta have before jumping in the bedroom lol Thanks again for watching
This episode is one of my favorites and it's like the Greeks and the Romans meeting for dinner like Logan said. I like got Pierce is pretty much the opposite of the Roys with a matriarch instead of a patriarch and a more liberal stance but it's all still money at the end of the day. Tom's line delivery is so on point. "Right wing ogre at your service" and "what a weird family" always has me cackling. I watched your Triangle of Sadness review but it was pleasantly surprising to hear you bring it up again because it was one of my favorite movies of last year.
One of my favorites of the series. I held my breath at the moment Shiv let that info slip. But you’re absolutely right, Logan would string her along forever just to have her eating out of his hand. Shiv considered herself the smartest of her siblings, but she still got caught up by the dangling carrot.
notice how Kendall reacts to Naomi's recitation of Shakespeare by saying: "that was awesome" but then dismisses the actress girl a few eps later for saying "awesome" a lot..A subtle nod to the perceived hierarchy of sophistication
The Pierce family is basically Roy family. Nan - Logan Connor - Maxim Ken - Naomi Shiv - young guy who was eager for deal Roman - probably someone who didn't speak up at the table.
Me encantan tus reacciones
I know you don't like Logan and it is true that he is not a likable character but he is where he is because he is ruthless and he has weight. He knows the business and he made his fortune from scratch. He is constantly trying to see which of his kids is worthy of his 'baby'. The thing is none of them are. They are always dependent on daddy. They claim to be independent and their own men but with daddy's money. None of them deserve to run the company. He is trying to see which of his kids is hungry enough to leave the company to but is constantly disappointed by how rash, entitled they are. They are never the smartest person in the room during business negotiations. Logan always is aware of who is doing what behind the scenes. He is always a few steps ahead. Because none of kids are the same level, he is frustrated. This is just a personal opinion. Don't come at me.
I will! lol Just been crushed by October, but I plan on getting back on track in November for sure. In a perfect world, I'd have at LEAST 2 of these out a month. Thanks for watching
"I got tipsy and I offered him the State Department" is one of my favorite lines from the show

Yeah there’s a lot to unpack with Roman
lololol, I had the same exact reaction during the dinner scene when Shiv said 'Just say it's gonna be me'. Thought I would die from cringing.
Rhea watching Kendall and Naomi flirt is genius

And the people planning the gala in 1x4 having to deal with Connor lol and that dancer when Connor was trying to compare his life to him.
@@neonoiresClassic nightmarish insanity that part in season 1 with Conner at the Gala.

you're by far my favourite succession reactor!!

Great reaction!
