This ep has such excellent Kendall-Logan and Roman-Logan in it. Even they were caught off guard by Logan's genuine laugh, though the fact that it was at their mother's expense speaks volumes (not that she doesn’t deserve it).
You’re absolutely right. This was definitely Logan whipping Kendall back into place. He kicks them & then reels them back in. You get glimpses of what it was like to be his kids growing up. What’s maybe just as bad is their Nothing of a Mother. Absolutely zero support in that corner either. Great writing in this one.
Exactly! Similar to how the show compares the wealthy Left and Right political leanings, it also compares a stern father and lackadaisical mother and shows that they both aren't stellar parents in their own right.

idk if someone else has mentioned this already but when greg was in the bathroom he was testing how various conditions would sound when recording on his phone with the aim to get more blackmail on tom by recording him. that's why he was changing the location of his phone and turning the hand dryer on/walking around etc.
edit: YEAH i kept watching the vid and you definitely caught it (apols for commenting before i was done watching lol, but a lot of ppl seem to miss that that's what he was doing!!)
unrelated, but i love this ep for caroline. i really love that horrible almost-convo with her and kendall late at night, and you get such a good idea of her dynamic with the kids (roman is obviously her favourite, she holds shiv to a crazy high standard and feels betrayed by her because shiv is such a daddy's girl, and kendall was always "first born son" and in his dad's pocket so she never really connected with him and you can tell bc of how awkward they are with each other). harriet walter who plays caroline did an interview where she talked about why caroline decided to flee instead of having the conversation with kendall and mentioned that they'd cut a scene earlier where kendall tells her "my therapist told me i should forgive you" or something which is why she has her hackles raised and mentions "a long list of emotional deficiencies". he did say that it was about something he did, but i think she's kind of used to being crticised by her kids whereas she feels like the kids chose their dad over her. not saying she's undeserving of criticism because she's said some horrible things to them (especially shiv), but i think you get a really good sense of what she's like as a mother from this ep.

I knew from episode 1 that it was prestige television in every way but my favourite episode is coming up soon-ish. As a fan of both Kendall and Shiv this episode was pure torture for me lmao. Someone also pointed out some weird stuff with their mum and food. Roman is also extremely self-concious of his body. There's also a line about them having eating disorders when they visited their mum that was removed from the script.
I did notice that Roman tends to wear tighter more "form fitting" shirts, which is something I've often done as well when I'm feeling self conscious about my body. Love that we get more and more insight into the Roys as the show progresses.
I’m really glad you caught and appreciated Rhea’s assessment of the kids!! I 100% agree and it’s probably one of the best articulated cases for and against each (less so for Shiv)
Why less so for Shiv? She never even thought that someone could leak that she was looking to CEO a different company.

Threatening to tell Logan is actually a smart play by Tom.
If Greg goes "but you told me to shred those documents", Logan probably goes "Good job Tom".
And Logan would "just" fire Greg, no prison involved. Greg can't just rat Tom out as revenge because then it would actually be mutually assured destruction.

I feel like it's definitely a power play, Kendall has started to tentatively stand up to him since the last episode and he just wanted to put him back in his place. Also the scene with Roman and Logan in the car is such a good indicator of their dynamic ugh - not one of my fave eps of the show but still some good shit. Roman calling British food 'a museum of wartime foods' makes me laugh because that is kinda our vibe. Their mum really is terrible too, she clearly did not want to talk to Kendall at all
I love your reactions. All I've wanted is to watch a real-time Succession from someone who clearly understands writing and film.

Not that I wouldn't love full length every episode but for your sake and the channel I'd say do it just for special episodes, i.e. season finales and other special ones that I won't spoil cause eventually I'm sure youtube will come around and lay down the law with copyright strikes for showing full episodes on here, as I'm sure you know already other creators show full episodes on patreon so they don't have to deal with it but selfishly sure I would love you to post full episodes all the time.

Episodes like this really help answer the question 'why are Kendall, Roman and Shiv like that'? Imagine growing up with those two as parents - both much too busy with power plays, mind games and trying to get one over on each other to do any sort of actual parenting.
Exactly. Context and backstory can help to humanize your characters. Not to say that context excuses their action and decisions, but it does help explain them.
