Im a theater person, and once we had a ballerina playing Cinderella. We couldn’t get her to run across the stage normally, she always ran like a ballerina. It was so funny. She tried so hard, but she couldn’t do it! 😅❤

      The exception confirms the rule.
But anyways, it's just a joke everyone in dance class makes. When our teacher says we have to run to our next spot, suddenly we want to run elegantly but that looks hideous. It's very funny.

@@niagara6015 To be fair, I think it's like a subconsious locomotion thing You dance and run very little, muscle memory kicks in and for some people, they'd rather dance than run, it's because your muscles are trained like that. I remember when I was a kid, I find skipping a lot more easier because I skipped a lot, but when I skipped less, I find it easier to run.

That reminds me of one day in my modern class in college where we ran for about half the class because "running like a 'normal person' gets beat out of you in dance classes, and I want y'all to look 'normal' when you run." She said we'd move on from running once we looked like "normal people."
We kiiinda looked normal after a while, but I'm pretty sure the real reason we moved on was because she gave up. 😆

This is just insane to me, i roll my ankles just walking on flat ground... I have small feet, slightly overly flexible ankles and I have a serious case of the Bad Lucks. I wish i could do... well ANYTHING these dancers can.

There might be adult beginner classes you could try! I have some near me, and often they'll let older teens join too if you ask. You also might be able to find a mixed-level teen class, but those are harder to find. Lots of colleges also have beginner classes, if you end up at a college! And I always suggest Kathryn Morgan's TH-cam classes if you want something to do at home. Sorry if this is a lot, but I get very excited about people wanting to try ballet at a nontraditional age, and always want to encourage as much as possible!!

I would definitely look at a college course if you are going - dance should count as a phys ed credit. (I took modern and it was so so fun) There are also classes on TH-cam you can do but of course that doesn't have anyone to check your form!

    YES! YES! YES!!!
I would definitely take a barre only class with Josephine.
At my age, health and length of time since I've danced en pointe (approximately 36 years) I can only do flats for quite awhile. I'd still take her barre only classes. They would perfectly suit me.
By the way, I love the changes & improvements made to all ballet shoes.
Josephine, thank you for your amazing videos. I look forward to them.
Please be safe, be strong, and remember to Love Yourself so that you may best Love Others.
    🙏💪💜

I took Ballet 🩰 for approximately 3 years when I was young. Unfortunately, due to a pretty bad case of Scoliosis, I was never allowed to go on pointe. It's just as well considering I never grew taller than 4'9" . Anyway, watching your show brings back some very fond memories and makes me laugh my behind off. Thank you.

I haven't danced in three years and I STILL pick things up with my feet. Never realized it wasn't just a normal thing til my friends gave me weird/confused looks

I should not have watched this one while eating dinner. I laughed so hard at "emotional running" that I got a piece of carrot stuck in my throat. Had to bang on the neighbour's door to have them smack me in the back to dislodge it before I died

As someone who is a dancer, saying you have amazing/beautiful feet is normal in the studio. Or who makes the dance shoes.
