Black locust can also grow thorns on branches and the trunk, not just Honeylocust. Either species can produce thorns, or not.

The black locust thorns are not the same as those of honey locust and I have never seen the black locust produce thorn clusters like that of the honey, that is one of the best ways to differentiate between the two species

blacklocust do certainly have clusters of thorns - at least here in Texas. I just recently harvested some for a woodworking artist in Michigan. both blacklocust and honey locust species can grow clusters and also single thorns on the branches and even the trunk, or have no thorns at all.

Hmm I have yet to see a thorn cluster on a black look remotely like a honey, I will have to do some more research into this

@woodbarter5713 the honey locusts without thorns are a genetically modified version known as shade locusts. If your black locusts have the same thorns as honeylocusts it kust be some variant we've never had in the Midwest or ontario because I nor any of my arborist colleagues have seen this

You mention seeds and buds that animals eat. We'd be more interested in what humans can eat.
