Sue, brilliantly done. We have a Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Even though we don't know who they were or what year they died, I think each one we are honoring them. We are aware they were living, breathing and loving individuals. The church is astounding. Thank you for doing this for all of us. I am sure their spirits are there with you.
I still get amazed by the dates of some of these headstone and the dates of the churches as Australia was only settled by the first fleet in 1788 by the convicts from England and the British Army who bought them here.

Yes we have our indigenous population here and their descendants but everyone else comes from nearly every corner of the world. Oh a fact I found out when I was FOI g some research on graves, traditions etc when it comes to deaths in different cultures. Did you know most people who passed away In Ireland were buried in unmarked graves up until the 18th century and the site was marked by a simple stone. Apparently there weren’t any cemeteries and people were buried usually on grave yards where a church was. This is how most people found out where there loved ones and past relatives were laid to rest. Once the headstone/tomb became a popular thing people use to go around asking if they knew of a certain person/family and if they knew their resting place. Once this was found out it was then a headstone would be made at the spot that person/people are buried. This was really fascinating when I red this

The Abbey we have here is also of yellow lime stone-stunning! Love the walk around the churchyard but because of tombs stone work hardly any history names could read but workmanship is beautiful ty for sharing your lovely time with us! See next one soon. You seem tired!

I don't think I have seen a graveyard with more Tombs than Headstones or a graveyard without a fence or wall around it. Some lovely stone work & architecture.
The first thought I had when I saw the unusual grave was a bed. Then when you got close up it did look like a coffin. Absolutely beautiful headstones. I wonder how the people back then afforded such beautiful graves. I also noticed how close the houses were across the street. Unfortunately I think if it was like that in America the graves would have been destroyed after all this time.
Had to add I was laughing when you said this looks like a coffin, a mummy tomb and the entire time I was thinking it’s a bed lol. I also loved the music very much a bummer. But so it goes

Amazing. Love the ancient church. One weird thing I noticed was the many of those tombstones we're eroded more at the bottom than at the top. That seems unusual.
What I really like about these old churches is if they have a crypt underneath them.thats what I would love to see.. the age of the coffins in those crypts is amazing..the older the more I like it and if it is musky and gloomy. Thank you for the video Sue.🙂
Hi, most churches did have crypts but sealed off now, there was one I visited in Dublin, St. Michan's Church, that had mummy's and a crusader too plus some beautiful coffins
I love these tours of the UK's old cathedrals. In America we don't have buildings before the 1700's, and those are very rare. Most in my area here in New England start in the early 1800's.

There is a stone coffin shaped grave like that at the old Dungiven Priory in Co. Londonderry. That whole place is amazing.

Amazing. Love the ancient church. One weird thing I noticed was the many of those tombstones we're eroded more at the bottom than at the top. That seems unusual.

Damp from the earth rises. Gravestones do not have a damp course.

What I really like about these old churches is if they have a crypt underneath them.thats what I would love to see.. the age of the coffins in those crypts is amazing..the older the more I like it and if it is musky and gloomy. Thank you for the video Sue.🙂
Hi, most churches did have crypts but sealed off now, there was one I visited in Dublin, St. Michan's Church, that had mummy's and a crusader too plus some beautiful coffins
I love these tours of the UK's old cathedrals. In America we don't have buildings before the 1700's, and those are very rare. Most in my area here in New England start in the early 1800's.

Wow Dean, I've always been fascinated by funeral director, or morticians never even thought of those who deliver coffins or even those who make them, I find them all amazing jobs
