I love this stitch for patterns where I don't want or like the look of a traditional double crochet stitch (with the bit of space that creates sometimes). The linked stitch really does join the double crochets together and is such a neat stitch!
It's honestly my favorite stitch right now. So pretty! I just shared this video on a group I'm in after showing it off. There were ladies looking to learn the stitch. 😊
I've been doing small samples to try out different patterns and this by far the best one. I've been crocheting for years and have never heard of the linked double crochet. I love the look! I also very much appreciate your camera angle and your soft manner in explaining everything. It was perfect. Thank you :-)
Love the linked double crochet! I’m making this with Hobbii Sultan. I’m using a 3.5mm hook for my plain rows and a 3mm hook for my beaded rows. It’s turning out well so far. Thanks for the tutorial!
Thanks for sharing! My family does not like holes in their blankets, so this is a GREAT option!! I, on the other hand, like the holes😂. Will be making a weighted blanket for my grandkids now, thanks!!!
I know quite a few people who don't like the holes in their blankets either! LOL The linked dc is amazing for this. I'm so glad you found it helpful! :)
I like this version - I saw another one where you had to switch crochet hooks with each row, and that's annoying. I already knew how to do linked double crochet, but you took an interesting approach by comparing it with Tunisian crochet.
I bought my beads at Walmart and they have a larger hole. I used 4mm for my beads and 5mm for the regular stitches. I also used a 4 weight yarn. Mine came out 40 inches long and 100 sts wide. I used 2-1/2 skeins of yarn and 1-1/2 "tubs" of multi colored beads with ivory yarn (Big twist)
Oh man. I figured all pony beads would be pretty much the same. I bought 1000 on Amazon and only a 3mm will fit nicely. I told my son I'd get his blanket to him in about 4 years with that tiny hook 😂
@@kaitb07 I made the same mistake. I bought mine at Amazon and they were the same as you described. Then I went to Walmart and bought theirs. Some holes measure up to 4.5mm but 4mm works the best.
That stitch works so well with this type of blanket! For a border, I always like a simple single crochet. If you want to work in a row of linked dc with beads you can do that too! For example, work 2-3 rows of single crochet around (depending on how wide of a border you want) - working 3sc in each corner. For the linked dc row with beads, work around using the same method as we did in the main blanket. This might get a bit tricky since you're working corners and different stitch counts on each of the sides. Then work another few rows of sc around to finish it off. You can also add little picot stitches for a final round. If it would be helpful as a tutorial, I'd be happy to work something up and post it!
That is an excellent point! I have never tried washing a beaded crochet blanket, but I would suggest washing on the lowest/gentlest cycle and I'd even put it into a garment wash bag for delicate items. It also depends on the type of yarn you use because some yarn may shrink a bit in the wash and that might not be very good for the beads! I'd say hand washing is always an option too, but I HATE hand washing (and laundry in general) so the easiest option is what I always go for! :)
You can definitely try it with a 3 weight yarn. Pony beads are a bit bigger sized bead which is why they work well with the 4 weight yarn, but should work with a 3 weight!
I’m hoping to get some help. I started the beaded blanket and ran into a problem that I’ve not had in years…. I was getting crooked edges on both sides. I undid the whole thing, watched the video again and again. Watched other videos and keeping straight edges. Started over and 5 rows in and I can see it’s starting to go crooked again. For the life of me I cannot see what I’m doing that’s causing it. The beaded rows are helping to catch it now that I’m paying a closer look. Any ideas? Suggestions?
My best suggestion is to make sure you are keeping track of the number of stitches for each row. You don't want to accidentally increase/decrease stitches or you'll start getting crooked. You'll also be able to tell something is off if the beads aren't lining up right. I hope this helps a bit! :)
The best part of this project is that you can use any size pony beads - you just need a hook small enough to find through the hole of the bead. I believe the ones that I used in this video are a 3.75-4mm bead. I used a 3.5mm crochet hook which just fit through the hole perfectly.
The best instruction I have seen about this blanket and a new stitch too. Awesome. Thank you 😊
Thank you! :)
I’d never heard of linked double crochet before! That’s really cool

Thank you so much for those kind words!

I like this stitch, with or without the beads. This will be my next blanket, but I will make a beaded throw first for practice. Cheers!
Agree! I am also planning some projects using the linked double crochet (without beads) - LOVE this stitch as a fun way to work a double crochet.
This is really cool! I love it! Thank you for sharing.☺I love learning new stitches and will definitely give this one a try.
You're welcome! 😊

What a fantastic idea. Shared with the amazing Raock and more group this is fantastic thank you for sharing

I absolutely love this , but by chance is there a written pattern?
I am in the process of writing this up and posting it for free online (I'm just waaaaay behind!!) :)
Love it!
Thank you!

I started the blanket and absolutely love this stitch. It looks so sharp.
Question, what type of border do you recommend?

I love this pattern more than others I have seen.
is there written instructions?
I don't have a pattern written up, but I am working on adding free patterns to my blog, so stay tuned and I'll make sure I add this one too!
How would you wash this? I’m thinking of making one for my adult daughter. Weighted blankets are neat but so frustrating to wash.
Also wash with cool/cold water and low heat in dryer (but I'd recommend air drying this especially if you're using plastic beads).
Can this be done with 3- weight yarn? I have a particular yarn blend in mind, but it only comes in 3 or 5 weight.
You can definitely try it with a 3 weight yarn. Pony beads are a bit bigger sized bead which is why they work well with the 4 weight yarn, but should work with a 3 weight!
currently working on this project with a weight 3 yarn and it's turning out great!
